Yet another $250 ship sale in my email inbox. Enough.

I am going to actively attempt for a refund, I have had enough of this crap. I don't even want to play the game at this point I am so disgusted with it. Day 1 I am going to see 1000 people flying around in these badass ships it should take months to acquire just because they shelled out hundreds of dollars in this greed scheme scam call "crowdfunding." This game already made a record amount of money, the fact they are selling these ships as pledges is absurd.

Yeah, I have a hard time accepting the fact that they've made almost a quarter of a BILLION dollars in crowdfunding, and still continue to sell ships and specialty items.  I mean, is this game actually going to be "the best game ever made"?  Because that is how much money is going into it.  So far it looks like a dogfighting game that is working on multiplayer map combat similar to Halo or Call of Duty.  From what I've read, this isn't even an open world, sandbox, etc. is it?

I get the feeling that people are going to be up in arms en masse when this comes out and it's a disappointment to the people who have shelled out those hundreds of millions of dollars.

They are continuing to do it, because it continues to draw in massive revenues.  That is the easiest fact to accept.  Here is another fact .. they won't stop doing it, until revenues begin to dry up.

idk i kinda like the fact that people like me who just got interested in the game have the option to have the ships with LTI even tho it's not a necessity and support the game at the same time.

i can understand ppl getting annoyed tho due to all the cash grabs we see now in gaming

Just so we are on the same page, how much do you think they  got ? They still got less money than most AAA mmo that came out in the last 5 years.

Did you or do you have the ability to opt out of their email notifications?  If not, then I'm glad I decided to wait until the game was released before I invest.  That's essentially as bad as a company selling your email to advertisement companies, as that's all you'll soon get for having the audacity of supporting their product.

Though it will likely continue to sell, and personally I hope it does.  The more money it gets now, the better options we'll have in the future.  That is, unless one is skeptical that it will even have day in the sun.

It would be a darn shame if the largest crowd funding game in history failed and set daunting precedence.

Due to frequent travel in my youth, English isn't something I consider my primary language (and thus I obtained quirky ways of writing).  German and French were always easier for me despite my family being U.S. citizens for over a century.  Spanish I learned as a requirement in school, Japanese and Korean I acquired for my youthful desire of anime and gaming (and also work now).  I only debate in English to help me work with it (and limit things).  In addition, I'm not smart enough to remain fluent in everything and typically need exposure to get in the groove of things again if I haven't heard it in a while.  If you understand Mandarin, I know a little, but it has actually been a challenge and could use some help.

Also, I thoroughly enjoy debates and have accounts on over a dozen sites for this.  If you wish to engage in such, please put effort in a post and provide sources -- I will then do the same with what I already wrote (if I didn't) as well as with my responses to your own.  Expanding my information on a subject makes my stance either change or strengthen the next time I speak of it or write a thesis.  Allow me to thank you sincerely for your time.

You have a funny way of doing math. A quarter of a billion?

you don't have to buy the ship. click delete. If people want to spend there money on a more expensive ship, fine. The effect on your game play will be minimal. Pirate player will be balanced out by bounty hunters, traders will have to contend with pirates, etc. ALL part of game mechanics. Game is not even out yet, (2017? Give it time to mature. Personally looking forward to buying many ships in-game, sort of a game goal. Open universe, going to need goals to keep it interesting.....

    my 2c.

I have a couple ships in Star Citizen, and I'm content.  If alot of ppl wanna play Pokemon and "catch them all".  All the better for getting the game made.

    >>> Did you or do you have the ability to opt out of their email notifications? >>

Of course he can opt out of getting e-mail notifications in his e-mail settings. He gets those mails because HE wanted it, otherwise he would have turned it off.

If those mails piss him off, its not due to CIG being greedy but due to him being to lazy to turn it off in his settings.

If he does not want them anymore and wants a refund .... he will get it, like others before him.

    Have fun

    Agreed.

I pledged before the game was funded. Thinking I am supporting a struggling attempt on resurecting Freelancer.

Now the game has more money than GTA V. And its still continuing this P2W scheme.

And what I fear the most :

Do you think they will stop once the game is released ?

I think not. I bet you will still be able to buy ships for money. And even worse, some ships will be exclusive for money only.

And who can blame them ?

People are throwing money at them for a game that is not out , nobody actually knows if its going to be any good.

And it can even not come out. And nobody would get any money back.

    Crowdfounding...

    Right.

    Wrong.

I think the realisation that people need to come to is that RSI purposefully pitched teh game at the mass market knowing full well that the game is not actually being designed for the mass market.

Star Citizen is being built from teh ground up for people who have EITHER vast amounts of spare time or vast amounts of money.

If you are a normal gamer who likes to "game around" and spend a couple of hours here or there enjoying your favourite titles, don't fund this game. If you already have, pull your funding out. It's really that simple.

And when SC releases, there will be a flood of bad press. I don't know why it hasn't already started. Selling $250 ships when your game hasn't even been released or reacted to is shitty.

That's the huge problem with games like Star Citizen et al. They're poisoning the well quite efficiently with their greed.

Wasteland 2 was a great game. The Shadowrun games are awesome. Pillars of Eternity is also a brilliant game.

But then you have Star Citizen and Elite Dangerous pissing all over everyone's parade by either being greedy profiteers or by giving us a 2 inch thick, 1 mile wide sandbox that lacks any compelling motivation to keep playing.

    It's really quite disgusting.

It's happened already in several places.

At some points Chris Roberts said he was thinking of stopping all communications with the press about his game, because he was pissed at a few journalists who'd dared to question SC's legitimacy, and had pointed out how there's nothing protecting you from him and his company running off with your money.

It was either this site or Massively I believe that posted an article in response to his reaction to the press.

Agreed.  Other people's success seems to rub a certain type of people the wrong way.

    You people that are saying:

It's fine, if you don't like it don't buy it

And all variations of that are TRULY what's wrong with gaming today.  You are the very reason that nickel and dime games like this exist and why games are released with 3 10$ DLC launch packs on day one instead of having that content included in the game.

A fool and his money are soon parted.

I'd give anything to go back to the day where cash shops in games didn't exist and the game at release actually had content instead of having to shell out 15 bucks for a new level or a monster or other content that should have been in the game at launch.

As much as i love the concept of star citizen and think this game would be probably my favorite game of all time, i refuse to play it just because of their blatant cash grab practices.  Enough is enough.

I want gas to cost $1 again, music not to be pop trash, tv to not have reality shows....but the fact is more in the world like it that way than don't it seems. To call it wrong is wrong...it just is. We have left the era where time dedication to a game was more important than money investment. Where to be king in a game you had to have 5 hours a day to dedicate to it. Welcome to the new world. It works for me since I never wanted to be king I just wanted fun. Now I can spend less, play more games, and have my fun.

"The A3G Vanguard is the United Empire of Earth’s dedicated deep space fighter. Initially developed as a bomber-destroyer, the Vanguard is a hard-charging bulldog of a ship which features extensive forward-mounted weaponry designed to tear through the shields and armor of other spacecraft."

So what is the description of my ghetto starter ship I got with my measly $60 kickstarter pledge? How much money and time will it take me to get this ship in game? Meanwhile the dude who dished out $250 with this thing is "tearing through" my shield and armor right?

If this were a single player game I would not have the slightest care in the world, but it is not. I have to share space with these people. People saying just unsubscribe from the emails are being simpletons, not seeing it does not change the fact it is going on.

    Nah, not simpletons.

They just happen to be the people who own those fancy ships already, and want more newbs to blow to smithereens at launch. :P

You are the "adult" worried about getting your ass handed to you at launch. Instead of the adult seeing a company raising money in a fashion that people, besides adults like you, are willing to pay for. I saw a girl selling girl scout cookies.., she already hit the amount for the camping trip now she is just being greedy.

Juvenile is whining cause a game does not cater to you and your personal style and likes. Screw the rest of the people fine with it.
