I want to be an archmage, like DnD pen and paper

Greetings Everyone.

I would love to be an Archmage of sorts, just like in the pen and paper roleplaying game Dungeons and Dragons.

It doesn't have to be with the same spell system, but i would like the experience of being an apprentice, knowing only a few spells if any, and working my way up to knowing a huge array of spells. Being able to teleport all over the world would be a plus.

When walking onto lower level zones, i need to feel all powerfull against monsters, and only having to fear for my life when entering bad bad areas.

PvE, no forced PvP.

if it is a 3D mmorpg, perfect, but if not, i will live with that easily.

And if you can build your own tower/house, and have spells that do other things than combat that would be awesome. And here i'm not talking about a single fun spell or two, but a whole load of spells that does things that makes the game easier to see, or do simple stuff in.

EQ1, EQ2, WOW, ESO, GW2 and others does not appeal to me any more... and i do not feel powerful enough in them...

Would recommend to play Neverwinter Nights, the first one if it's possible. Great game, with solo and multiplayer, there's a lot of servers which haves DnD haks. ^^

    Sorry for my english, also.

DDO magic-users are pretty close to PnP version. They are weak at first but get very powerful at higher levels and most of the spells are present-charms, holds, elemental, power word kill and even lesser used-Dimension door, otto's irresistible dance, etc. The game is also the best (IMO) for quests. Very intricate, have to think way through, traps, puzzles. Before 5th, 6th level -kinda hit or miss on how good quests are, but higher get consistently better. Very dnd like.I found the wizard class the funnest, but rogue fun to with trap disarming.

I'd recommend Avalon: The Legend Lives a text based MUD. You start out as an apprentice, learn your skills, you have a choice of 4 cities to live in based on their ideals.  You are basically writing your character's story as you go. You can rise in guild and city, PVP if you'd like but don't have to, they have a legion warfare system, you can collect commodities to sell for gold and so on and so forth. It is such a diverse world.

    Try Dungeons and dragons online.

But keep your eyes open for Swordcoast legends, it ains't a MMO but something you can run with 4 players and a DM, not out yet but seems very interesting. Releasing Q3.
