Blizzard let us down :(

DevilSephDevilSeph Member UncommonPosts: 147

Good Old Blizzard North, we had SC1, Warcraft 3, D2 than they proved that they can make MMO-s like vanilla WoW.

More than 10 years passed and they let us down!  by now we should have gotten some Diablo mmo or SC mmo but all we got is some card games, some pandas and murlocks, huge fail d3 and some cheap ass over simplified anoying moba called hots ( murlock hero included which usually is troll pick to loose...)

Where is our SC mmo :(

The past 10 years of development in WoW shows that they have no idea how to make an MMO. They just designed a simple version of EQ, which was already popular, and advertised the shit out of it.

That's all Blizzard has ever done well, really. Rehash old ideas for a new market, and dumb it down for mass audiences.

Are you a Blizzard fan? Blizzard north only made one of those games. Blizzard North did not make SC1, WC3, WoW.

SC2 is the best strategy game of all time. It's a true successor of SC1.

Don't make me laugh. WoW became popular because it was an amazing game. Trust me all those millions people didn't flock to WoW because EQ was popular. There were tons of BLizzard fans who loved their games. Blizzard's fanbase at the time of WoW's launch was massive and EQ was insignificant in comparison. WoW achieved a number of players that was bigger than the entire MMO industry back in 2004.

WoW was fun and it was epic. And it was set in a universe which was a hundredfold more popular than the niche EQ. MOst gamers haven't even heard of EQ.

I know it's hard for EQ fanboys to swallow this, but WOW put this genre on the map.

Yes , I was huge Blizzard fan.

SC2 is sc1 with better graphics and a very bad single player story, it's all about Raynor and kerrigan love story. Sc1 story was so good

Yeah, just how many of the Blizzard North crew do you think work at Activision Blizzard today?

The lead designer and his 2 top programmers from WC3 quit and stared Arenanet and he since started Undead labs as well.

As for Starcraft one of the guys still work at Blizzard while the other one gotten job as design director at Arenanet.

With Diablo one of them was already mentioned under WC3, a few works on Runic and Roper worked a while for Mythic then moved to Cryptic, not sure if hes still there.

Blizzard North is long gone and they ain't comming back. And since they don't exist they don't own us squat. But they do have split into several other companies and some of them makes MMOs.

Are you dismissing SC2 because of the story? Well, I guess people play games for different reasons but SC1 and SC2 were not praised as the best RTS games of all time because of their story. While I do agree that the story in SC1 was epic, I think SC2's single player campaign was very good.

However, ultimately SC 1 and 2 were all about the multplayer. And SC2 is a true successor to SC1. It's similar but at the same time it's quite different.

Also the reason Blizzard North were shut down because they were not doing a great job on Diablo 3 or at least not to the expected Blizzard standards.

    That's because they're smart.

Why would they spend hundreds of millions of dollars making a new MMO only to cannibalize their own subscribers?

Why would they make a new MMO when WoW is making more than five times their next highest competitor in the West?

If you want a new Blizzard MMO people are going to have to stop throwing money at WoW.

never heard SC1 or SC2 being the best strategy game, only they made a league so people could compete with both, age of empires get that tittle last I heard

While I am a huge AoE fan, I tend to disagree. It's not about having a league. SC1 didn't have leagues. SC is considered to be one of the best strategy games because of the skill required to play that game. It's often considered to be the most difficult RTS game. SC1 was revered as an esport in Korea. I am not saying that AOE is not a complex RTS and that it doesn't require skill but it pales in comparison to SC.

blizzard simply doesn't release things when they aren't done.

they do a test run for their major projects (which was WC3 for WoW. they added in the models and stuff and checked how people reacted to them), then they go full throttle.

titan did not work out. they spend like 7 years on it, so before they will give it another go, they will wait for it's testrun to complete - and quite frankly, they didn't even release it to public yet, just internal testing.

so if you want a date for their scifi mmo (which comes right out of my ass): give them 5 more years.

I can attest to this, as I went right from UO to WoW. Didn't really pay attention to EQ because all I heard was how hard it was because it was difficult to get enough people together to do quests. WoW was my first warm fuzzy moment of any video game.

I played both, I enjoyed both, but WoW did not put the genre on the map. WoW only did one thing better than anyone else and still does. That thing is advertisement.

I have loved every Blizzard game they have done. I didn't like the direction they took after TBC but that is a different story.  I have a question since were on Blizzard would anyone buy a remake of  Diablo 1? I'm talking a graphic / interface update not game play.

Hahahah this actually seems somewhat on point. It could be argued that Warcraft (the game which put blizzard on the map) was simply a re-skin of Dune 2. At any rate, Blizzard had the winning formula that those other game owners didn't. (1) Appeal to a broader audience and (2) advertise the shit out of it.

Well preference of what's best is a subjective thing, but with SC1's ~11 million sales, SC2's 4.5+ million, and AOE2's ~2 million (source: wikipedia) it seems unlikely you've never heard someone call SC the best.

One can read the interview / postmartem done on Titan and you will know exactly why it was canceled and why Blizzard will NOT be making another MMO anytime soon. Simply put Blizzard is tired of MMO's in general. World of Warcraft has exausted there there interest and time in MMO's. I mean just look at the amount of content that has been put into each World of Warcraft expansion and the amount of work that doesnt go into the years between each expansion.

Blizzard has no want or even NEED to make another MMO. As long as World of Warcraft and there card games bring in rolls of money what is the gain / benefit to making or even attempting to make another MMO? Titan was for all intensive purposes not even a MMORPG in that sense.

When you can take a small team on a small budget and pump out a money maker product like Hearthstone, who in there right mind would spend 100x that budget to attempt a MMO that has a very high chance of failing?
