A few weeks ago, ArenaNet announced that it would be restoring the Guild Wars 2 Personal Story, most notably replacing the deactivated "My Greatest Fear" story. In addition, steps from Chapter 8 were moved to Chapter 7 which created an issue with players not being able to access some content and gave a feeling of discontinuity to the overall story arc.
To solve these issues, "My Greatest Fear" is being completely restored as originally released, with steps from Chapters 7 and 8 being reverted to their original order. The team will also be making small adjustments to the story complete with a bit of new voice over acting, camera moves, new assets etc.
Players can check their own story progress by accessing the Story Journal to see where they stand in the overall arc. Characters that have not yet finished "A Light in the Darkness" or "Forging the Pact" should not have any issues and will see the story as originally released.
Characters that have finished "Forging the Pact" and are in or past "The Battle for Fort Trinity" will not be able to see the restored arc.
If your character is currently playing “Against the Corruption,” “Cathedral of Silence,” “Romke’s Final Voyage,” or “The Source of Orr,” you must complete your story steps through the Source of Orr to begin chapter 8. If you do not complete “The Source of Orr” before the Personal Story restoration goes live, you will be advanced to “Victory or Death” upon completion of “The Source of Orr.” “Victory or Death” is the final Personal Story step (and you will miss out on most of chapter 8 with this character). This is due to these steps being moved back into chapter 8 and the successor steps being restored to their original state.
The story step “Victory or Death” and “The Ruined City of Arah (story)” dungeon are being merged and revised to support 1–5 players. The previous version of the Ruined City of Arah (story) dungeon will be retired, and the explorable version will be unlocked by default.
The ArenaNet team has put together a great mini-FAQ about the Personal Story Restoration project that you can check out on the Guild Wars 2 site.

I remember a lot of it, but the race specific stories and season 2 were obviously far superior to the other chapters in the game. Season 2 was pretty fantastic and a return to the great story telling GW1 had.
Nice summary
My personal favs are the Asura storyline about predicting the future and the Norn storyline about having an alcohol problem.
Those are the 2 that were really fun.
After today's April Fool stunt with no option to turn it off, I'd have to agree.
Vocal players on the forums have been asking for these two changes for a while now. The personal story rework has been criticized for the entirety of its lifespan, and Victory or Death threads have been among the most common (albeit, in my opinion, trivial) comments since launch, simply because the personal story ends on a group step.
Nothing compelling save for an old drunk Engineer Charr, that was it really. And I discovered why he was drinking, it was because they actually believe that 2 handed swords should swing wider than bombs can explode and that they should do more damage than bullets or rockets. smh
