Anarchy Online. Of course it was my first MMO, so I might be biased.
Or maybe not. I'd probably have gone back to it and resubbed by now, even without a graphics update, if it weren't for my laptop graphics card quarreling with it. Wish I loved TSW the same way, but as much fun as I had with it for a little while, it's just not the same. Same for AoC. Both solid games in their own right, but not the way AO was for me.
I am convinced there is only one way to eliminate these grave evils, namely through the establishment of a socialist economy, accompanied by an educational system which would be oriented toward social goals.
Early EQ 1. Everything through Scars of Velious was golden. Planes of Power and Omens of War were quite good as well. These days it has strayed too far from its roots.
Darkfall is pretty damn good too but I need more PvE content to play it as I am not a hardcore PvPer.
EVE without question. This one will likely end up being the best video game I will have the pleasure of playing throughout my entire life.
Honorable mention goes to the original Darkfall. Hell of a game and I miss it tremendously.

Agreed.
SWG pre-cu was the best MMORPG experiance I ever had. While I continued playing during the NGE I just needed to stop since the game was changed so much. Yet did return in 2007 and actually enjoyed the NGE because it still offered so much more then most MMO's offer even today.
Just wanted to throw our hat in the ring as your next favorite MMORPG. We're a VR-focused pre-kickstarter game still in development featuring both crafts and quests. The video above is our latest trailer, and shows off how it all works.
This board has been a great resource for ideas and comments, so don't be shy about letting us know what you think. Thanks!

I'll tell you what I think:
I think it has promise. If you don't turn it into a gankfest open world pvp game where only big guilds have fun and everyone else scurries around like rats under their boots.

I agree, balancing in MMOs is a delicate business. We're trying to keep a fair integration between crafting and questing. We've got plenty of hunting, fishing, and terrain and castle building. But we've also put together a pretty neat bounty system (if I do say so myself). Check out the video above -- It's not remotely a gankfest, but we're plying around with a temporary, reward-incentivized way for players to take out bounties on one another. Should make for some fun gameplay, especially in VR.
FFXI followed by Fallen Earth in a close second. And right now I am enjoying ESO. Looking at that list I think my intrests are all over the map in game design.

This pretty much.

ESO, LoTR, and Shadowbane hold/held my attention on and off.

ShadowBane - for the diversity in class builds and banes that could last hours.
Warhammer - for getting tanks right in pvp.
Your first is most often the favorite.
Be the Ultimate Ninja! Play Billy Vs. SNAKEMAN today!
... still Vanguard.
Its kind of silly, nobody can play the game anymore anyway.
I still would play it if it still was running, though.

Cant say one for sure, but:
Dark Age of Camelot - Best pvp
Asheron's call - Best exploration, mystery and character development.
Vanilla Wow - Best raids and group content.
The way mmo's were: Community, Exploration, Character Development, Conquest.
The way mmo's are now : Cut-Scenes,Cut-Scenes, solo Questing, Cut-Scenes...
