Is it worth starting playing now?

Premise: I bought SWTOR when it came out, but got too busy to ever starting playing it. I know nothing about how the game changed in the few years, but have experience in other MMORPG.

Is it worth starting to play now? How approachable are leveling and end-game for someone who missed out on the last years?

Thanks in advance.

Yea the game is still fun, but imo I think the endgame is quite dull. I also believe the storyline's  is what makes swtor a good game, and the lowbie pvp isnt bad at all.

Yes, it is definitely worth playing now. I was in the beta for 6 months before release and then played for a few months after release until I got bored and canceled. I re-subbed a few months back and bought the Revan expansion which was a lot of fun (I also got the Hutt Cartel which I hadn't done before either). I leveled from 1-60 and was able find groups for most of the 2- and 4-man group quests so that wasn't a problem (although as a sub you can skip them if you want to, as you easily gain enough XP just from regular questing). There is also a lot of stuff to do at endgame now. I actually like SWTOR's PVP and there is also various rep to grind for cool stuff, not to mention the frequent Bounty Contract events and other stuff going on. I am not into raids so I can't comment on that, but it is definitely worth playing, especially since you can just start back as free-to-play if you want and if you are enjoying it then pay the $15/mo and buy the expansion.

Most definitely. You'll have plenty of QoL fixes to come back to, lots of new content and even a few new systems that improved the game a lot like the Collections menu, Strongholds (housing) and Galactic Starfighter.

There's no real drawback to starting now. It's primarily a front-end experience with a low quality endgame. Frankly it's people like you coming into it late that even keep it afloat, since the veterans are dropping in large numbers.

It depends on what part of Star Wars you like. Most people seem to like the peeks into Mandalorian culture, which you get very little of in other SW media, I know that was a big draw for two of my friends

For me Star Wars has always been about the stories, not about wandering aimlessly through 10 000 miles of the Tatooine desert or the icy wastelands of Hoth and mindlessly killing mobs, but each to his own.

SWTOR's storylines do a good job at delivering the iconic Jedi and Sith stories too, so for me it definitely delivers. I also don't pay anything on top of my monthly fee, so the cash shop doesn't bother me at all. Not like you can't get the items from the GTN with ingame credits, or use your monthly stipend to get the unlocks you want in preparation to go preferred status.

The only ones I see really bothered by it are the people that want endless entertainment without spending a single penny, and they deserve the penalties that come with being cheapskates, since we wouldn't even have any new games if everyone was like them. image

Only worth playing(as a main mmo) if you're going to subscribe. Otherwise, not worth.

    Toughen up!

It's not about being playable without a sub...it is about being worth to play it for most.

I might try it soon, haven't played for over 1.5y, maybe the engine has improved and there is some more freedom on th emaps and ingame day/night cycle and weather.

Engine, sure. The rest, pretty much no. And as far as I know the devs have no plans of ever adding day/night cycles.

That's not what they said. But I'll leave it alone.

Yeah, I agree that once you finish stories that the value of SWTOR plumets rapidly. And not rapidly but more like a nose dive.

Still, I can always rerun stories just as I can always rewatch old episodes of Star Wars. Lovely jubbely!

So yes, thats exactly what i said. That it isn't WORTH playing(as a main mmo) without a sub.

depends what your looking to get out of it really.

for myself i subbed a couple months ago just because i was on a star wars kick, I really enjoyed the class quest ( story quest ) and watched all the scenes for it and it was nice. had a good time doing that, but as far as the rest of the game goes....I still have a hard time really calling it a MMO to be honest. and after my class quest was done i was pretty much done with the game.
