Bad game studios broke mmorpg

laokokolaokoko Member UncommonPosts: 2,004

I dont' know why everyone is blaming WoW.

Take a look back in history, it's those games end up failing which make people quit the game.  You need to blame those studio which arn't able to keep up with good update to run their games for 10 years instead of blaming WoW.

So if you think the genre is going bad, you know which studio you need to blame and it is not Blizzard.  Infact many people are already blaming those studio.

Even if you just look at those wow clone.  Some actually manage to do ok without huge drop in player base after 2-3 years.  Some just end up dead pass the 1 year mark.  Making good games matters.

    I don't blame WoW,it is just a game,but i do partially blame Blizzard.

I understand that in the beginning,Blizzard was not doing so well,so i understand the barrage of low budget designs in games like Warcraft and SC and Diablo. However over time they have made mutliple millions and with a LOT of LUCK they struck it crazy rich with WOW.

So over the last several years they have made a boat load of money, that makes OTHER devs look to their success and try to copy it.Of course not every dev but a lot of them try to mimic Blizzard. It is not about quality of gaming with Blizzard, they can sell the same game that fails under another developer and make millions,it is simply a following of fanbois they have.

Of course it is not Blizzard's fault that others make bad games, but when Blizzard gets rich on low cost designs, others are not going to spend MORE to compete with them, they can't afford to risk it knowing the Blizzard name alone makes sales.

So sort of indirectly ,Blizzard does ruin the market. You see if Blizzard was making high quality games then others might actually feel they have to at least step up and put out the same quality to compete.

It never became more evident to me until i finally played Diablo and POE.I was like wow POE is pretty muich an identical copy, but then why are millions paying Blizzard to play the same thing that can be played MUCH cheaper?Well all it does is reaffirm what i have been saying about a fanbois following and how other devs copy them.

We can even look further at former Blizz employees who made Torchlight, same thing again.

We used to scoff at those f2p Asian games of old, seeing a ton of players standing around with name  plates  over their head, yet along comes Blizzard and copies that same ugly look, but with Blizzard it is accepted. Now everyone is copying the same hand holding the same markers everywhere and that was not always the case.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Wow isn't the problem, it is the idea that copying it will lead to millions of subscribers. What people forget is there was a time when EQ was the leader, and companies copied it, with no more success than copying Blizzard. Don't blame blizzard, blame the players going on every developers boards and asking every company to copy Wow. Even on the Pantheon boards, where you'd expect people to know it's not going to be a Wow clone, you have players asking for auction houses. That's the problem.

The problem is people go back to WoW because that's what they know and that's where their friends are. There's a limited pool of potential customers and few people permanently leave WoW for a different game. People may try out a new game, but after a while they miss their friends and the familiar setting of WoW and return. Sure a few people stay with the new game, but it's not always enough considering how most people only have time for one MMO in their lives.

I dont want to breakdown now each MMO but lets take for example SWTOR.

Its a great game but they used too much ressources to voice even sidequests, HUGE waste. And in the other hand you get FPS drop downs for no reasons with great PCs in PvP, some zones or skill delay lags, camera not working correctly etc. etc.

Design of the game is great, flashpoints (dungeons) are mostly even better than in WoW but IT DOESNT MATTER because the controls of the game / fps etc. are poor. Especially if you are into PvP then delay lags, camera being annoying etc. is just a no go.

On top of it you have alot of spells especially heal spells that does look like nothing / shit. Who wants to play like this ? Thats what always Blizzard understands, SPELLS MUST BE FLASHY to make fun / to feel the power etc. etc. ... But if you spec for heal and you dont even really see you have healed ... eh NOT FUN and thats sadly where most MMOs fail.

Either controls / camera are bad with even laggy skills AND / OR you have no real flashy skills.

I promise you its not the content of MMOs why they fail always so much. Content at the beginning of an MMO doesnt matter, what matters if that you see the core mechanics are well built and combat is fun. But if the game already fails at core mechanics like CONTROLS / CAMERA then no content in the world makes me play this game, content can be added later but doing a poor job on core mechanics, Ill promise you ppls wont come back.

For me MMOs fails already 10 min. into it because of the above reasons, mainly controls / camera / feeling of combat and thats exactly where WOW and Blizzard games in general shines. Its just sad that Blizzard dumbs their games always so much down, thats the only issue with Blizzard games and why we still keep searching.

SO its my opinion, knowing from myself and friends that content at beginning of MMOs isnt the issue.

People always pick on Blizzard when all they did was create a great game! Now personally I blame EA and SOE they ruined gaming with poor quality games and not caring about their players.
I'm not perfect but I'm always myself!

Why would you blame games that failed for the state of the industry. Games that have failed improved the industry (by being removed). It is only the games that have succeeded that have shaped the industry. It is the games that have been very popular, and lasted many years that have defined the industry. The games that no one liked, and that died quickly have not had any effect.

If you do not like the state of the industry, you should be blaming the games that have created a lasting effect... and the people that have supported these games.
