The latest Anarchy Online update has been released that features across the board improvements in nearly every game feature. Players can look forward to a new starting area, new ICC headquarters, battlestation updates, changes to the parry/deflect system and new additions to the item shop.
New colonists on Rubi-Ka will start their journey in Arete Landing, an unfamiliar shuttle port adjacent to the newly renovated Rubi-Ka headquarters of the Interstellar Confederation of Corporations (ICC). Within Arete Landing, players will be met with a number of quests designed to instruct them on various mechanics that will be present throughout the main game. As players progress through the quests presented within Arete landing, they will be armed with knowledge and equipment that will greatly aid them on their first steps on this distant desert planet.

Still no new engine?
Soon it's gonna be the 10 years anniversary for this carrot on a stick.
I know, I feel the same way. That new engine tease has been going on for YEARS! I would honestly go back for at least some short term fun IF that engine finally is released.
I've heard from others that there is a couple sticking point stopping it's release but seeing how much effort was put into this patch, I hope it also translates to the engine update soon as well.
It is mostly just ground, light and sky (I think) improvements but I've seen the video and screens and visually it would certainly be a nice improvement.
You stay sassy!
They haven't talked about the New engine since end 2013.
The closed beta topics are all from 2013 and haven't been updated since.
Seeing since Funcom has gone through some tough rounds of lay-offs the past 2-3 years and the little resources they have left, it's safe to assume it's been put on hold, if not indefinitely.
I self identify as a monkey.
At this point, just take all the framework from AO and make a new game. At its heart, with all of its skills, implants, nanos....it is still a great game. I do think its ridiculous that Funcom is still charging $15 for a month subscription.
Polishing the already dated graphics isn't going to do much. Converting everything over to a completely new engine would allow them to slap a new name on it, box it, market it and sell it for far more than they are getting from their subs right now.
