The book/movie that you want to see an MMORPG of analysis!

So I was interested in both the book and movie threads/lists. However I wondered to myself what kind of MMO do the people wishing to see Dune, Mad Max, or Wheel of Time turned into?

Open world? Instanced? Single player lobby MMO? Cash shop, subscription, hybrid? Encouraged grouping, forced grouping, solo focus?

Try comparing to current MMOs and tell me a bit more... use the following as a template if you wish. This is just to get a rough idea of what people are thinking about when they say they wish a book or movie was an MMORPG/MMO.

Name of Movie/book:

Main game features:

Basic progression outline:

First two that came to mind were Dune and Wheel of Time..   Dune would be more faction based, similar to Planetside.. You could make it a hybrid environment for both PvP and PvE..  The Wheel of Time I think could make a great PvE game, and disregard any PvP balance, similar to original EQ..  Another option for those that enjoy medieval theme, is to spin off of Game of Thrones..  This again would be more faction based like Dune/Planetside..

    • The Black Company: a ten book series with a compelling world.
    • strongly encouraged (but not forced) grouping.
      • class based progression using skill points / level
      • strong focus on factions / sub-factions
      • heavy emphasis on exploring the past and discovery
      • heavy emphasis on lore and character building
    • progression from a unknown mercenary on the edges of the civil war to hero, villain, or possibly one of the taken.
      • Do you serve The Lady, The Dominator, Soulcatcher, Kina, or only yourself?
      • Eventual access to many alternate worlds
      • No single plot, stories are varied on factions point of view.
      • There are no "Good" guys, at best, you are just a lighter shade of grey. Evil, on the other hand, is very real.
    • Large, seamless world with diverse environments and cultures
      • Eventual access to many alternate worlds, each more challenging than the last.
      • Landscapes frequently torn by long-running wars between the powers of the land.
      • political affiliation is very important: who you align yourself with affects how everyone interacts with you.
      • world design tends towards the gritty and realistic: no cartoonish graphics.
      • magic items are scarce, but game changing.
      • nothing is permanent; not faction gained, items, allies or friendships. Everything breaks down over time unless actively maintained.

Some people are actually interested in MASSIVELY MULTIPLAYER, go make your own thread about single player games if you feel so inclined.

That looks awesome. Makes me want to read the books!

Punisher: TV Series - Based on the First comic books from back in the 80's.  Kingpin, daredevil, microchip, wolverine, etc...

Dark and gritty like the tv show "Gotham"

The books are epic in scope, covering 40 years in the 400 year history of The Black Company.

I've read the entire series twice to date, and am tempted to read it again.
