I hate to sound ethnocentric but why do these otherwise awesomely immersive mmos with gorgeous settings and landscapes let folks just pee all over the 4th wall with the out of style costumes? It bugged the ever loving heck outta me in archeage too.
I should point out that (a) entropia which is European does this too and (b) I'm crabby so take with a grain of salt
RIP Ribbitribbitt you are missed, kid.
Currently Playing EVE, ESO
Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and not clothed.
Steparu always shows his videos of Black Desert with full effects. I don't know why he does it, it makes the game look like a light show concert. But there are sliders for both camera shake and skill effects that can be toggled from 1 to 100. So you don't have to have the effects, or not make it look so bad when your playing the game.
I'm really looking forward to the game, but what I saw just now... I honestly can't imagine why anyone would find any type of enjoyment in this.
It was total chaos and I mean that not in a good way. Literally couldn't differentiate between enemy and allies. This type of combat to me seems rather pointless. What's more...no one seemed to ever die lol.
The Eastern MMO connoisseur over at Steparu has just put up a nice look at Black Desert's largescale PVP. Revel in the sheer madness that is 100v100 warfare in the upcoming sandbox MMORPG. And yes, this is in the open world, not an instanced off area.
There's quite a bit of server side lag it seems, but the framerate seems to hold up well under all that pressure. Plus, Steparu is brave for carrying a sheep into that battle.
Wow....that video just crushed my hype for Black Desert completely lol.
Wayyyy too much flash not enough skill based pvp, that video just summed up what pvp is going to be like in BD, another asian mmo with great promises that I will pass on because it fails to deliver yet again. However my tastes are different, this game will probably do well in Asia.....not so much in NA/EU.
Man I miss Darkfall Online (1.0) so much...the last good skilled open world pvp mmorpg...watching this garbage just reminds me of how good a game it was.

Almost all asian mmos do this. They have items that totally break immersion. Archeage, Final Fantasy, Perfect World, GW2, Tera, etc. (i think all of these are asian owned or have asian publishers) They have costumes and items that are modern themed, which i hate. Some western mmos do this too though, but not as badly.
Originally posted by Ozmodan Believe me, you don't want big battles ever in a MMO. The more I read about this game the less I like it.
The larger battles in Warhammer/EVE/Darkfall are some of the best memories I have of gaming, thats just your opinion mate.
It works in games like EVE because the game actually has team play and ways of easily understanding what's going on. This is just a zerging dps clusterfudge with no sense of wtf is going on or who is attacking who. There's a significant difference in large scale pvp in EVE, and large scale pvp in games like this.
If people want coordination and competition, pvp will need to be instanced like in WoW's Rated Battlegrounds or Arenas.
That's 2014 DAoC, which is very different from classic. Though, I'm in no way claiming classic DAoC did not have zergs.
Coordination and competition, however, were available in abundance in classic DAoC. I remember players from all realms even maintaining extra accounts to create "spy" characters that would try to pass information about where groups of players were headed in advance across realms. That's a pretty good example of coordination that even Mythic wasn't expecting.
Competition was also fierce in classic DAoC. Gank groups were plentiful and when they ran into one another, bragging rights were on the line. If you mean competition in the sense that someone got to be at the top of a list of names labeled "scoreboard" at the end of every night/week/what have you, then no. But that isn't the only form of competition available in MMORPGs, contrary to contemporary belief.
It does not take instanced, structured PvP to foster coordination and competition. It helps, but ultimately it is the players who decide whether or not they want to coordinate and compete, regardless of the circumstances available in which to do so.

You're trying to compare that Black Desert garbage to this?
How was that not coordinated? People were focusing on one target, taking down one at a time. In that Black Desert clusterf%$k absolutely nothing was being accomplished.
Ridiculous server lag, your skills lock up and don't work, basically you just walk around and look at the scenery because no one can do anything. Working as intended, right ArenaNet?

after playing this game on the korean servers.. i can say the following:
The pvp in this game is a dps fest with potion popping..
There is NO teamplay involved in this game
plus.. like previeus posters already said.. its hard to see wtf is going on..
i had high hopes for this.. because the hyped the game with territory control pvp and.. but the pvp is the worst aspect of this game.
I enjoyed the game tho.. leveling is fun.. and i play mmos only for the pvp
where 200 ppl !?
here like 25 vs 25 .... not so much
I am in the same boat as you Ozmodan.
The visuals in BD is like a bad acid trip in a disco back in the 70's O_o

It's probably because the sheep signifies not to attack him as he is recording. The sheep or "lamb" probably signifies "peace".
Peaceful player, not fighting.

I actually prefer big battles. It was the sole reason I tried lineage 2. The sieges.

zerging in a pvp game? You don't say.
"But my small group of friends and I can take groups 3 times our size by using skilllllll" Don't care. Grats to you and your friends.

I don't know why people are so surprised. This is your typical openworld pvp scenario in any game.
It even happens in DAoC: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yjL9Zft6tFI
