TheAion site has a new landing page that teases and upcoming expansion called "Upheaval". There are no other details available at this time but we'll keep you posted as we learn more.
Aion is one of those games I always want to play, but never can get into. The premise is amazing, and I like the combat and the leveling, even if it is a tad grindy. I feel like it might just be how long it takes to actually get into the class you are playing I don't know, hopefully this expansion can finally get me into it.

I totally agree!
Ah...all the classes imo were really great! I couldn't settle for just leveling one. I just got tired of getting ganked. Not much of a PvPer any more... lost my competitive edge a while ago.
This game could EASILY be number 2 in MMO's if it made a few features more player friendly, as well as less of a grind.. I LOVED playing it, until about lvl 30+ and it was grind grind grind.
Returning to a mature gear based PvP game after a long break is a real off putter for me. I am sure that I am not alone.
I know it seems backwards, considering that GF are talking about merging servers, but a fresh server would be the only way I would return to this game. I think it would be good for their player numbers as well.
If you wait for there to be an influx of homes on your server for sale that week, you can grab a house for 30-40 million. I managed to get two estates on one weekend, since everyone was focused on the mansions. Got one for just 70 million.
I make kinah by simply farming ores, gems, and other materials players need to craft or for cooking/alchemy.
The game has changed over the years and again is evolving. They have the standard server, which is just for your server and open to PvP zones with the other faction or they have the fast track servers, which has persons from all servers, there is a continual experience boost on this server and you can stay there till you hit level 56.
I've been playing AION since it came out in Sept 2009 and I love the changes.
There is no need to cash shop, refine stones have evolved and changed and it just keeps getting better.
If you use the fast track server, you can get from 1 to level 10 in about one hour. Then from 10 to 16 in an hour.
At level 16 you run the first solo instance called Harmel, which is very easy. You are given a free reset scroll or can buy them for 1k or less from the broker. If you use the free experience scroll the NPC gives you - you can get to 21 in about 1 1/2 Harmel runs.
There are many quests for this instance, and if you grab them and run it about 4 more times, you can jump to level 25. Then you get into NTC instance (grouped).
You again are given exp scroll (50% I believe), run NTC (FULL) and you can get to level 30 fairly fast.
At 30 you hit up Fire Temple (grouped) and move up to 40 fairly quickly.
The key is to grab those instances, ensure they kill as they go and have a full squad.
The NPC also gives you gear and weapons as you level, and if you take the blue / gold quests > you can level this quick and get even more gear.
