Beginning today at 4:00 pm Pacific / 7:00 pm Eastern, players will finally be able to get their hands on CD Projekt Red's The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. As the final game in the trilogy, Witcher III brings to an end the epic story of Geralt and, hopefully, to show us what will come next in the iconic property.
So the quest today is this: Are you ready for The Witcher III? Will you be pulling an all-nighter? Taking tomorrow off?
As a side quest: What do you think will come next for the IP? Will Ciri take center stage in the next Witcher title?
Let us know what you think in the comments.

What comes next? A multiplayer version in the Witcher world is my guess.
And yes I'm ready but too old for all-nighters. I need my sleep

Nope. Still haven't beaten the second game yet. Combat was such a clunky, unplayable mess at launch, though it did get better. Got to chapter 2 or 3 before I gave up. Had other games to focus on in the meantime.
Bought the game anyway to support CDProjekt, and I really hope they designed a better combat system this time around. I will admit that not being able to create my own character in an open world game is a prospect I find to be rather... unsavory. Geralt is one of the biggest badasses in fantasy fiction, but an open world just screams for a custom character to me.

W1 was barely worth playing. It was plagued with technical problems and uneven play - it felt very much like what it was: a small budget indy project. W2 was a huge leap forward in quality from what became a good-sized mainstream studio - it was an excellent game.
But it is sort of an odd-duck in the SRPG scene. You don't get to create a character and what "groups" you have are temporary and typically just you and one other NPC. In that way, it is more like and adventure game than an RPG. But you do have a very good ability system that lets you spec Geralt in many different ways. And it has a very robust potion and item crafting system.
I was given W1 as a gift and persevered through it despite the awkwardness and enjoyed the premise and story quite a bit. Been hooked ever since.

Maybe. My video card is great but my cpu seems slightly under and they indicated 8 mb's of ram and I only have 6.
I'm hoping if I bite the bullet and turn down settings that it will be acceptable.
Other than that I'm jazzed though I didn't take any time off as I would have if it was an Elder Scrolls game.

I've played W1 & W2 and have never finished them. But I have played games for an hour or two, then come back to them years later and played them through. Plus now-a-days it's best to wait. By the time the sales hit most of the bugs have been patched and even the DLC is discounted.

I got Witcher III and Batman Arkham Knight for free with a purchase of a GTX 970 from MSI.
I was going to buy the video card anyhow, soooo BONUS!
However, I normally do the exact same thing. I wait six months after a game is out and buy it on sale. I got Witcher I and II for like five bucks each. All the Batman games for around 7.50 each and about 20 other titles at hugely reduced costs. Steam sales are the best things EVER if you don't get rolled up in the hypehypehype train and have a little patience. Patience has also saved me from a few overhyped stinkers too.
The only games that I will not wait to play are The Elder Scrolls and Fallout titles. Those I will preorder like a muthafukka.
I didn't like the witcher 2 much, but I am loving witcher 3. It is simply amazing. The world feels so alive, the combat/game mechanics are 100% better than the clunkiness of W2, the way the story and game evolve is captivating.
I saw one review that said the combat was pretty much unchanged from W2, and I almost didn't get it because of that, but that guy was so wrong imo. The combat is not as tight as lords of the fallen, but its very smooth and flows in a way the W2 just didn't. The upgrades for Geralt feel extremely robust and worthwhile- I never once had that feeling in W2.
Its one of the only games that have grabbed me right from the start, its hard to explain because there is so much right in it, from the voice acting, the monsters, the hunting theme, preparation for fighting monsters, how that makes lore relevant, graphics, story, etc, etc, its like a never ending list of awesomeness.
I am only early in though so things could change, but the initial impression is it will possibly be the best game I have ever played.
WoW, My game plays great. I guess the site "canIplayit" (or whatever it's called) was a bit wrong.
I agree wtih YashaX, the combat is really good. I recommend doing the tutorial. I also recommend it because the end bit is pretty creepy. Of course, if one skips the tutorial I don't know whether you experience the end part or not before you launch into the game proper.
I did just get a weird crash though. : (

i actually imported my witcher 2 savegame .... the reason ?? i dunno ... maybe more hairs in Nvidia Hairworks .... or Apex Crap Simulation or ....
man , the game is full with Nvidia Asstensions like watch dogs, shadow of mordor, ..... my point is ... game could look and perform better for all of us , if there weren´t so many "brakes" in it
and atm i have an nvidia ... so dont blame the user :P
Wasn't morrowind like that?
I'll have to withhold judgement about "gettign out in the open world" as I think too many games pollute their game world with "stuff" and you barely get a chance to actually enjoy the world without getting jumped by something.
but I'll have to see how that manifests in this game. I'm also playing two worlds II at the moment and it seems that there are areas where you also need to level up or you don't have a chance. I sort of like that but I can understand how some wouldn't.

You are aware that it's the second number that's the most important for Nvidia cards right? The 5 & 9 signify the card generation, the 6 signifies the GPU's performance level. There will be some improvement with the 960 over the 560 but not as much as you seem to think. The '6' revision GPU is a mid range performer. You didn't say if the cards are GT or GTX with the former not really intended for games performance.
This open world actually feels sort of "old school"... very much more like Asheron's Call than Skyrim in that you learn by trial and error where not to go when you're just wandering around looking for ability point magic places and loot caches. I've had to run away several times from fights I couldn't win.
I think Skyrim sort of spoiled us with their autolevel version of open world. With few exceptions in Skyrim you could really go anywhere and be perfectly safe. I actually like it this way better with mobs that I'll just have to come back to later. It's a more dangerous place. And it's very satisfying to fight something you probably shouldn't be fighting and winning the fight with just a sliver of health, That happened to me with a bear in the first area and again with a pack of mounted bandits in the second area.
As to mob density, it feels just right. And in that respect, it's very similar to Skyrim. Areas packed with mobs as you see in most MMOs are actually very unrealistic and are done that way simply to pack more content into smaller areas.
And the game is abso-frikking-lutely gorgeous... the lighting of sunsets and sunrises in particular are done better than any game has done them before. And no two sunsets are alike. Also clouds and weather in general are the best I've ever seen in a game.

Could not give a crap less, I play MMOs, which is why I hang out on an MMO site.
I like the commercial for the game though.
