What Should I play?

KardiamondKardiamond Member UncommonPosts: 52

Hi MMORPG community,

I'm sad. I can't find anything to play. :( I need your help!

I know you guys follow the MMORPG scenes, and I'm sure one of you can help me. :)

I like :

- PvP, I don't mind PvE (I liked PvE in TSW), but my end game will always be PvP.

- I like customization. I love trying different builds and gears. I dislike  playing the same thing as every other players. Like FF14, everyone had the same gear, and the sames stats. It was boring. I loved GW2 for that, different build and classes and gear.

- I prefer SandBoxes.

- Action Combat. Even if it's tab targetted, I don't like standing in place and just pushing the same combinasion of keys.

- I like non-generic classes system. Like Archeage classes system was great.

I Dislike

- Slow paced leveling. I prefer horizontal progression, but I know most games are vertical.

- Too much F2P stuff.

- I'm not a huge fan of asian MMORPG. They all play the same. I tried echo of soul for 1 week, but didn't like it. Felt too generic.

Here we go.

I hope you guys can help me! I'm stuck playing ARAM in League of legend and I hate it ! :)

P.S : I know a lot of people are thinking about TERA : I'm not sure, I tried 2-3 times, and couldn't find myself playing more then 1-2 weeks.

P.S : My last favorite MMORPG was GW2, and It was my kind of game. Sadly I did everything i had to do with this game, so I have to find something else. :)

    For horizontal progression, the closest thing to that now is GW2. All zones level 30+ are worth playing at any level. Its a level down system but its done very well. For the future EQN maybe for you. They are going for a levelless game. But their is not a lot of details on the game yet but I would keep it on your radar if horizontal progression means anything to you.

    My bad I forgot to talk about GW2.

    I added another post scritum about GW2. It was really my kind of game, sadly I grew bored of it after a years, which is good enought for me. If I can find another MMO that can occupy me for 1 year. :)

    I tried TESO 2-3 times. I got a char to level 40 I think.

    I liked the game, until I tried to pvp.

    My experience with PvP was the following :

    - Join Pvp Map

    - Run around to find people for 45 minutes.

    - Find People, follow them.

    - Run around them with a "flag" that we have to bring to base.

    - Run for 45 minutes.

    - Didn't fight once in 1.5h.

    I tried it again 2-3 times, and got similar result. I think I fought 1-2 times, and wasn't sure what happened, it was chaos all around and I got killed pretty fast.

    Maybe I got unlucky! I might have to try it again.

    You have done everything that is on offer, go and do something else until the next set of good MMOs come out.

    My wife and I are having a blast in Skyforge. Only 1/8 of the content is in beta right now, so it tends to repeat if you are looking to unlock classes. No levels but there is a progression system. Missions/Zones scale to your progression and the number of people you team with. First 1000 points you earn is ok gaming but after that it starts to get really really fun. I already got my 20 bucks worth and its a great time killer. Its a lobby game but there is open world maps. PvP system is really awesome as well on paper. Cant wait to try it.

    SWTOR--WOW, rest is hopeless
  • KardiamondKardiamond Member UncommonPosts: 52

    @jean--luc_picard

    Maybe I will someday. I played during vanilla Wow, was a great game. But I have issues with the way combat works. Too static for me. But I might give it a try.

    Nanfoodle

    I actually downloaded the game, tried it for 20 minute, but something turned me off when I choice the class. Don't know why. I decided I would wait until the game release to try it again. Looked promising!

    palulalula

    I actually played SWTOR at release, and loved that game. Even if it revolved around PvE and StarWars ( I like SW, but I'm not a "fan"), I played it for multiples months. Sadly, at release, Open world pvp on ilium was a joke. Huttball was one of the greatest pvp mode I ever played tho. I stopped playing because pvp got repetitive without openworld being viable, and GW2 released.

    Maybe someday I will try it back.

    @zaberfangx

    So much potential in this game. I played it for some weeks, but my server was dying and lacked any kind of pvp. Game were full of bot, and I arrived in a level bracket where pvp queue wouldn't pop. I think it might be my next choice. Are MegaServer there yet?

    @SomeOldBloke

    I hope you are wrong! ;)

    Edit : My post bugged? I lost half my text. Anyway tried to re-write it.

    Maybe you should wait for Crowfall. It do seems to be what you are looking for. In the mean time is the GW2 expansion comming out pretty soon to keep you occupied.

    You could try out Pathfinder of course but it is pretty much a paid alpha at the moment.

    Umm, EVE best PVP sandbox, do what you want game.

    Something Awful this way comes.

    @Kardiamond

    Yeah megaserver are up, down to 2 big server pve and pvp, right now it's really need big push of people on pvp side, the f2p if not b2p may do that for it, so it's be a good time to try it again then.

    EVE is for a really specific player base, and sadly I'm not among them. I tried it and it was cool, but I'm not patient enough.

    If PVP is first on your list, there are tons of great PVP games out there.  Personally I've been playing a ton of Battlefield 4 lately (and sort of shocked that I stopped playing at level ~7...probably Planetside 2-related.)  In fact I plan on giving PS2 some more time over the weekend (been a while) and eventually after I burn out on PS2 I'll be back to BF:Hardline (which was fun enough to make me double-check why I stopped playing BF4 at 7 :P )  Then of course there's SC2, LoL, DOTA2, Smite, SFIV, MvsC3, (maybe MKX?), World of Tanks/Warships, etc.

    PS2 sounds like the best fit out of those PVP games. It offers plenty of customization and playstyle variety, if being unique is important to you.  Even as a top ~1% player I was doing things very different from how other top players played (which I honest found sort of strange.)  Action combat, naturally, since it's a FPS.  Somewhat distinct classes (MAX armor, unique air gameplay, distinct take on the stealth class.) Not especially sandbox (in the classic sense at least; arguably any PVP game on continents this large is very strongly player-driven, which is the core of what makes something a sandbox) and no PVE.

    All MMORPG PVP is going to be very casual, with non-skill factors like population and progression offering significant advantages.
