HefaistosHefaistos Member UncommonPosts: 388

Ark: Survival Evolved.  You need 10-15 mins to understand what i am talking about. TAKE YOUR TIME...you will love ARK! Give a chance and read all the info here, then think about what kind of GEM ARK IS!

Watch this:

THEN

Read this before you go below. It will make more sense:  http://www.reddit.com/r/playark/comments/39e0rb/the_ark_digest_issue_5/

I play mmorpgs for 15 - 16 years. Before mmos ive played SC1. Before those. My 1st love...my heart was taken by Dark Age of Camelot. After this ive played most of the mmos but only few worth mentioning. Few days ago ive found: ARK SURVIVAL EVOLVED...and my mind = blown. I have never played a survival game so far...but waking up in the morning and seeing my base that ive made along with my friends in the last day pillaged to death by dinos and some pvp players its a feeling i have encountered for ages....I HOPE IT WILL LAST :)

Why ???

It has sandbox features...its open world...its a crafting game...with open world pvp (on pvp servers) with no pvp if you want (on pve servers). IT HAS DINOSAURS AND FLYING MOUNTS...

You can gather almost anything that is in the world...you can craft any house you have in mind...you can do almost whatever you want in this.

This game is in Early Access and had the most success in EA history. Over 500.000 copies in 2 weeks. /waitwut ???

Its top 5 games on Twitch for 2 weeks...top 5 on Steam.

The Devs are in permanent contact with players via Reddit www.reddit.com/r/playark and on Steam.

By the way, take a look at this: http://steamcommunity.com/games/346110/announcements/detail/246917402766857567

You can take dinosaurs...raid enemies house...loot their villages if you want...loot their corpses...etc.

Take game is medium to hardcore gameplay wise. You make a mistake you die. There are passive Dinos and agressive ones. SOme have poisions some outrun you. If you wander...you die...and lose your items (but oyu can take them back if you want...if you are searching for your bag....and if you dont know where you are....you lose them....because THERE IS NO MINI MAP>....Most of us are roaming and searching and taking notes via Landmarks. At end game you get GPS but Landmarks RULEZZZZZ!!!!.

Did i mention THERE IS A FREAKING T-REX DINO ??? And most of the dinos you know??? Megalodon? Its there tooooo!!!

IT HAS NO FREAKING NPCSSSSSS! Nobody its telling you what to dooooooo.

IT HAS NO QUESTSSSSSSS!

ITS PATCHED DAILYYYYYYYYYYY. GAME ITSELF HAS 70 people on servers. Everybody knows everybody there. You can buy/rent a server and DO WHAT THE FLYING >>> YOU WANT :)

There are lots and lots of other features. Ask anything around or use their steam forum for more info. This game its a massive succes in its Ea state

While I'm interested, the small server limits bother me.  I like my MMO's to have 1000's of players., not sub 100.  They said that in the future they hope to make servers able to hold 100-200.  But even then, it still doesn't seem massively when it comes to multi-player.

70 people may be enough for you, it's not for me.  Different strokes....  I'm not saying you are wrong, it's just not massively enough in my eyes.

Yes, i have...witcher 3 is best game from what point of view???

NPCS is sending you to kill/gather/do a drama story and you run around following the story....vs an open world in Jurassic Park era with full crafting game features and pvp ??

    Wait, wut ?

I gave to Witcher 3 best single players game of all times...a game where you click...a game where you kill because...DRAMA.

Have you ever wandered in a forest NOT KNOWING where a raptor / scorpion might come and kill you ?? Have you ever played a game where your minor mistakes are punished??? Have you ever played a game where if you play for 5h and you make a mistake...YOU DIE AND LOSE everything? NO

    Play ARK

Been playing Ark myself, It has huge potential and when its optimized I know i'll enjoy it even more. Currently regardless of your rig playing over 60+ fps on even medium graphics just isn't happening. Having a X99 system with sli 980's I'm used to playing at more than 30 fps but I've been dealing with it mainly because ARK is a lot of fun.

I will agree with others here the server populations do need to be higher. I find the map too big for 70 people. Of course they should keep servers at lower populations to please both parties but I'd like to see them push for 200 players per server. I know clans that play rust that have 40-50 members so if they was on your server it wouldn't be much fun when the cap is 70 lol.

Is this a 1st person only view? That's a tough one for me to get by because it feels like wearing blinders, tunnel vision) all the time.

    Some other thoughts...

I do like 1,000's on my servers, but that wouldn't stop me.

You cannot have too large of a world.

While I don't want MMOs where rampant PKing and or looting is possible, this is after all a survival game. With the larger numbers I'd like it would surely drive me away at some point unless players actually band together for a world-wide effort against such players (not likely, lol).

So I'm undecided for now, but lacking anything else might bring me in.

    Once upon a time....

Thanks a lot, ass. You just cost me like ~$200. I'm going to have to explain to my wife that I need to spend $60 tonight for a game. In turn, she's going to want to spend $75 on shoes. While she's at the store, she's obviously going to have to pickup a skirt and pocketbook to match said shoes. Great. Just freakin' great.

Someone is high on that new game thrill.
  • rodarinrodarin Member EpicPosts: 2,611

Been playing it since Monday. Has great potential. I am on a PvE server simply because its early access and there are a lot of epeens playing on servers you can kill people on. Once the thrill of shoving shit down a dead guys mouth goes away then a non PvE only server is basically the only way to go since I am not sure what "end game' will be if its not PvP.

While it is listed a sand box it is right now a closed end system, there is a level cap ,and a limit to what you can learn. Whether you can learn everything is unknown to me since I am only level 30 right now, but I somehow doubt it.

So once you max out and learn what you want/need to learn then you can farm and farm and farm stuff to build a mega compound, or train another dino, or maybe try and explore something. Because other than that there is (at least right now) a lot to do. Great fun leveling and learning new things but once that becomes old then what?

1st person + 3rd Person. You cant fight in 3rd person on some servers. Some have 3rd person full fight...some dont. Official dont because you dont have crosshair (its off but you can turn it on if you want...on your server). 3rd person isnt that great. I have problems with 1st person too since mmo style but on fight its amazing...you know where to hit the animal...belly, etc. Its

1000...100..200...when 200 people with high end gear...or 20 people on TREX with high end weapons and armors will pilage your base when you sleep, you wont like it. 70 its ok atm because map is huge.

btw: I PLAY ON EUROPE 197 OFFICIAL. Its EU and NA server. Spam refresh if you get the game and send a tell on general chat about me. I'm Elitez (steam id) and Elite in game.

I still prefer 7 Days to Die at the moment.

ARK's got some serious pacing issues for now, and whacking trees and rocks hours on ends just to get to the next item to craft gets dull pretty fast. =/

All in all it's a good and fun game though, and I'm hoping they'll do something to make the early game a bit more interesting than it currently is.

Never gonna happen. There's way too many immature people on the internet for that.

I'll be sticking with the PvE servers too.

60 you spend on witcher 3 is a much better investment then Ark, trust me on that. I have 200 hours put into witcher 3, I got a refund for Ark.

    Because

Single player with random brainless story vs Sandbox Open WOrld Full LOOT PVP or NO PVP with full LOOT Death vs Dinosaurs in a Jurasic Park World.

I mean, wtf, why play alone when you can play with your rl friends?

I was checking out this video...

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DopmnDlCPPM

It seems to me that once you get the angles down using 1st person attacks, you could pretty well adapt to using 3rd person.

This looks pretty interesting. My son mentioned it just a couple days ago. I need to do some checking, my comps kind of old and may not handle it well. I had no problems with WoW, but I couldn't play ArcheAge at all (almost complete freeze).

Is there a free trial? (I'll check, just asking.)

And thanks for the invite. I want to play with my son though if I do, sorry. Appreciate it just the same.

Right now Ark is already behind The Forest,i assume those playing it are claiming the next great survival game.

Ark charges money to play, therefore it is NOT early access.NONE of these games claiming early access mean anything, every single one of them are out for the quick cash grab without having to actually finish a game. Then when everyone leaves after a short time,to the NEXT great game, nobody cares ab out THAT last game anymore and the developer is off scott free, made their profit and no need to further invest since everyone left the game.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Interesting?  Yes.  Level of hype you are giving it?  No.  It is loaded with problems - and since it is early access, it should be expected to have issues.  From how hard you are hyping it right now, I imagine you will have a heart attack when it is finally released.  Have a drink and relax yo.  Also you might be the type to enjoy H1Z1 and DayZ, check them out as well.

Yeah, they are doing some cool stuff.  Dinosaurs and unreal4 sounds like a winning combo, period.  I imagine I will sink some time into it after it is released but it isn't for me at this stage.

Neither have dinosaurs and theyre also both in early access, same as ARK. They are both a lot cheaper though as theyre on a STEAM sale.

End of the day people are tired of killing zombies and mutants and skeletons and the usual faire every other video game offers.

While the 'newness' of dinosaurs might wear off its still a different approach.

End of the day there are a couple thousand online games around and they all are trying to get enough people ot play them to pay the bills. Problem is the bills are low and therefore games that should die dont.

So it offers a variety for anyone no matter what they are looking for they can probably find it.

Even though there are "only' 70 people per server I see people all day long in ARK, I saw 3 o4 people today and the pop was 24/70 at the time. Numbers are irrelevant just matters what theyre doing and where they are.
