Unfortuantely they goofed up with the leveling experience. The amount of grind feel you get from it is just far too much. While its a lot better now, it still has left a sour taste for many people. Its a shame really, I would agree the game is far better then most people view it. It gets better as you get further along, but they really could do with adapting early level experiences so its better.
Not like 'the best out there' but I'd be comfortable to say its one of the best MMOs available today, and perhaps has arguably the best combat system out there (I feel its better then GW2 (granted an easy thing to beat to me) and even better then Wildstar which came out later in pulling off its Action Orientated combat).

I got a sorcerer to 65 several days ago, and created it around a year ago but stopped playing a couple weeks after i hit 60. I also recently got to 35 on a warrior, and a 38 lancer. I'm pretty familiar with how Tera's combat works, and my level would be irrelevant anyway. Any mmo vet knows how a game's combat is going to be without the need to reach max level.
Yes, my personal preferences and opinions, as i stated they were. I wanted a brief list, so that's why i didn't expand on explanations. It's not like i needed to though. They are pretty familiar to other mmos, with the exception of campfires and charms.
I don't like tab-target much either, but i won't refuse to play them.

It is a good game I return often for my fix of full action combat.
If it deserves more hype is as many comments show up for debate, it is a fun game and for anyone wanting to play a full action combat MMO its about the only decent choice at the moment. But at the same time some bad decisions have been made along the way and some players will never forgive or return.
And well its not for everyone but no MMO is otherwise we would all be playing the same game.
Even me who does like the game has been pissed off by a few decisions like loosing the Vanarch system, Race/gender locking class's (its just lazy development)

The only things in your list that stick out as a negative compared to other mmos are the RNG loot boxes, but even those are staple in most f2p games. And some things on your list are just laughable: For example the dungeons in Tera are amazing, some of the best I have ever seen in an mmo, the animation locks are what makes the combat good, and the BGs are actually quite innovative. Its like you have no clue whatsoever and have just randomly spouted off a list of negatives.
Wow just wow this game is really trying to tell me something.Now i have played this game in the past,i have tried to like it about 5x prior.However this time i keep getting this super annoying Steam thing claiming i am logging in from a new application or location but i am NOT.I am on the same IP the same PC so it really pisses me off.
I still never gave up,i went through about 5 tries with the armor security code but every time i try to click the PLAY icon "NOT on Steam" but the developers platform it will NOT play,nothing happens.It is beyond frustrating because it is ALWAYS the f2p games that do this sort of stuff to me.I played 12+ years on FFXI and i have only once had a minor set back and that was when i changed to Vista otherwise not a single problem ever.

Tera has its fun parts, no doubt. I still hop on from time to time although I have never been able to make it my "main" game. I subbed for a very short time upon release, but due to me playing other games and being highly annoyed by the weapon-lock and the RNG enchanting, I didn't stay long.
I will say that its F2P model is a great one, perhaps only rivaled by Aion. And yes, the combat is superb. However, I have always found the community to be simply atrocious. Not that there aren't good folks and I have actually been in a great guild or three, but boy this is a toxic place to play. They are already demanding +15 for just about everything, same as +12 was essentially necessary to group before the FoA expansion. And these people seem to think they are somehow more "pro" than others just because their LUCK is better. Yes, it is all about LUCK, not "skill", when you have an RNG enchanting system that rewards lucky idiots every bit as much as it punishes highly skilled players who just get bad rolls. And in a gear-based game, that is simply unforgivable, if you ask me.

Tera is one of the best MMOS out right now.
1. Great story
2. Amazing combat
3. Respectable player base
4. No gold spammers
5. Fun dungeons
6. 4.5 million players and growing.

PVP/BGs arent good? well too bad.. MMORPGs are Lore based multiplayer games. I find Tera to focus on PVE more than PVP and that makes Tera Unique.
I have played numerous MMORPGs over the last 12 years and have seen the developers in most focus so hard on PVP content that they end up screwing over or short sighting the PVE side of the game.
Take World of Warcraft for example. It had a wonderful lore based system for several years.. then the developers started focusing too heavily on the pvp side of the game.. now more with Warlord of Draenor you see all of the games starting CC and armor is nerfed due to pvp player complaints.... Now take a look at the armor .. PVP gear looks sweet.. then look at the PVE gear and we have spandex....
I quit WoW because of the PVE nerfs and over focused efforts towards PVP content... screw Blizzard...
I joined into Tera and love it because they havent taken this step. They stayed along the traditional track of following the PVE route.. PVP is secondary as it should be. I know many PVP loving players will contest this but In defense of Tera I will say this:
Want better PVP go to a PVP server and gank each other.. leave the PVE content at a higher level and you see a successful game.. and there is no doubt Tera is successful.. it has a growing population.. enough of a population that they have had to add new servers.

You are right, but I still wish they had fewer better written quests, preferably longer. Or GW2 styled DEs would have worked just as well.
TERA is a pretty good game but I am not sure whey they bothered making so many rat killing quests, they could have just done like Lineage (well, when I played it 2001 at least) and had some bounty collectors instead, that is actually more fun and feels less railroaded. The extra resources could have been put on making a few more epic styled quests or some new kinds of mobs instead.
You can of course play it and ignore the quests but it is still annoying that they bothered to put resources on them. They just don't add much to the game in their current state.

I personally feel twitch combat doesnt fit well for long play times. If I want a twitch combat fix, single player games work well. TERA really has nothing about its MMORPGness that makes it stand out as an MMORPG.
I started playing TERA a few days ago and I just got to level 51. One thing I can say for sure is the combat is pretty fun. But I think it's true what alot of people say about the world design. If you pick up the free elite status or sub to elite, you essentially make the world of TERA 100% pointless. For starters you can port anywhere on the spot for free almost like a GM (I haven't used flight paths since day 1). And just to think flight paths used to be an innovative corner cutting way of getting around, now even that's too much work..
Once you reach the level you can do your first dungeon, you literally never have to step outside of a town ever again and you can just ride the dungeon queue all the way from around level ~23-65. In fact, that's optimal to level up since running dungeons gives a ton of XP. It's kinda of sad because my best memories (for themepark mmo's) was actually questing in zones until I had to actually physically go up to the level specific dungeon to get into it. Now you just do the next dungeon in your level range without ever going there, and when you finish the dungeon it ports you to the dungeon where you can ask yourself (where the hell am I?) This aspect of the game certainly kills a lot of the sense of adventure that COULD be there, but isn't.
Tera is a great game in the NA region. However in the EU it's run by Gameforge. A developer whom I would compare with cancer in the MMO world. Pay to win items as far as the eyes can see. The publishers have no idea what the game is all about and make sure to update the cash shop primarily before the game to get more revenue. It's a completely different game over here. Hence why I personally rated it so low. Because it's the version I can play with a respectable ping. That is one reason I can see why the game has received a lower rating than some other titles.

Yea it kills the sense of adventure , But if u ve already seen it before it would be helpful imo and will save lots of time .

I got a sorcerer to 65 several days ago, and created it around a year ago but stopped playing a couple weeks after i hit 60. I also recently got to 35 on a warrior, and a 38 lancer. I'm pretty familiar with how Tera's combat works, and my level would be irrelevant anyway. Any mmo vet knows how a game's combat is going to be without the need to reach max level.
Yes, my personal preferences and opinions, as i stated they were. I wanted a brief list, so that's why i didn't expand on explanations. It's not like i needed to though. They are pretty familiar to other mmos, with the exception of campfires and charms.
I don't like tab-target much either, but i won't refuse to play them.

It is a good game I return often for my fix of full action combat.
If it deserves more hype is as many comments show up for debate, it is a fun game and for anyone wanting to play a full action combat MMO its about the only decent choice at the moment. But at the same time some bad decisions have been made along the way and some players will never forgive or return.
And well its not for everyone but no MMO is otherwise we would all be playing the same game.
Even me who does like the game has been pissed off by a few decisions like loosing the Vanarch system, Race/gender locking class's (its just lazy development)
The only things in your list that stick out as a negative compared to other mmos are the RNG loot boxes, but even those are staple in most f2p games. And some things on your list are just laughable: For example the dungeons in Tera are amazing, some of the best I have ever seen in an mmo, the animation locks are what makes the combat good, and the BGs are actually quite innovative. Its like you have no clue whatsoever and have just randomly spouted off a list of negatives.

Wow just wow this game is really trying to tell me something.Now i have played this game in the past,i have tried to like it about 5x prior.However this time i keep getting this super annoying Steam thing claiming i am logging in from a new application or location but i am NOT.I am on the same IP the same PC so it really pisses me off.
I still never gave up,i went through about 5 tries with the armor security code but every time i try to click the PLAY icon "NOT on Steam" but the developers platform it will NOT play,nothing happens.It is beyond frustrating because it is ALWAYS the f2p games that do this sort of stuff to me.I played 12+ years on FFXI and i have only once had a minor set back and that was when i changed to Vista otherwise not a single problem ever.

Well, someone somewhere in this thread said the game had improved since launch. I was skeptical, but gave it a shot. Just posting my opinion, but I really can't tolerate a themepark with questing this bad. At the end, it just doesn't make me give a shit about the whole world I am in. So, why bother?
The questing is bad, but it gives you a reason to fight, which is really the highlight of this game, its combat. People are stuck on this quest-hating thing but its only purpose is an excuse to allow you to enjoy its combat. In a sandbox there are no quests. If that is what you prefer, then ignore the quest and go out into the world and fight BAMs, random mobs, do a few dungeons, or PvP to your hearts content. Again, the combat, in and of itself, is good enough to keep you entertained. No one is forcing anyone to play this game in any particular fashion. Treat it like a sandbox, create your own story and just have fun with it. Truth be told, after the initial go-round, that is what most people do with alts anyway, and I've heard of some people having as many as 18, level 65 alts. Crazy I know, but i guess the combat can be just that entertaining.
Tera has its fun parts, no doubt. I still hop on from time to time although I have never been able to make it my "main" game. I subbed for a very short time upon release, but due to me playing other games and being highly annoyed by the weapon-lock and the RNG enchanting, I didn't stay long.
I will say that its F2P model is a great one, perhaps only rivaled by Aion. And yes, the combat is superb. However, I have always found the community to be simply atrocious. Not that there aren't good folks and I have actually been in a great guild or three, but boy this is a toxic place to play. They are already demanding +15 for just about everything, same as +12 was essentially necessary to group before the FoA expansion. And these people seem to think they are somehow more "pro" than others just because their LUCK is better. Yes, it is all about LUCK, not "skill", when you have an RNG enchanting system that rewards lucky idiots every bit as much as it punishes highly skilled players who just get bad rolls. And in a gear-based game, that is simply unforgivable, if you ask me.

You realize one doesn't preclude the other, right? That both cases can be true (however subjective they might be) at the same time? Ever heard the phrase, "not mutually exclusive"? It applies here.

I agree the combat is the highlight. But its combat is not interesting enough to carry me all the way to max level. In an MMO, I need more than just flashy combat to keep me interested. If that's all I wanted, I could just play Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat.
Fair enough, Though I'd be interested to know which MMORPG does it better. It is always a give and take with MMOs. No one MMO has it all. And if one does, I sure don't know about it. Now, if your stance is that you just don't like MMORPGs, then that would be a whole different story. That said, we are all entitled to our different preferences in gaming.
Tera is one of the best MMOS out right now.

Sure its a F2P game with a cash shop... The good news is its not P2W.
PVP/BGs arent good? well too bad.. MMORPGs are Lore based multiplayer games. I find Tera to focus on PVE more than PVP and that makes Tera Unique.
I have played numerous MMORPGs over the last 12 years and have seen the developers in most focus so hard on PVP content that they end up screwing over or short sighting the PVE side of the game.
Take World of Warcraft for example. It had a wonderful lore based system for several years.. then the developers started focusing too heavily on the pvp side of the game.. now more with Warlord of Draenor you see all of the games starting CC and armor is nerfed due to pvp player complaints.... Now take a look at the armor .. PVP gear looks sweet.. then look at the PVE gear and we have spandex....
I quit WoW because of the PVE nerfs and over focused efforts towards PVP content... screw Blizzard...
I joined into Tera and love it because they havent taken this step. They stayed along the traditional track of following the PVE route.. PVP is secondary as it should be. I know many PVP loving players will contest this but In defense of Tera I will say this:
Want better PVP go to a PVP server and gank each other.. leave the PVE content at a higher level and you see a successful game.. and there is no doubt Tera is successful.. it has a growing population.. enough of a population that they have had to add new servers.

You are right, but I still wish they had fewer better written quests, preferably longer. Or GW2 styled DEs would have worked just as well.
TERA is a pretty good game but I am not sure whey they bothered making so many rat killing quests, they could have just done like Lineage (well, when I played it 2001 at least) and had some bounty collectors instead, that is actually more fun and feels less railroaded. The extra resources could have been put on making a few more epic styled quests or some new kinds of mobs instead.
You can of course play it and ignore the quests but it is still annoying that they bothered to put resources on them. They just don't add much to the game in their current state.
The graphics and combat system are good though.
I personally feel twitch combat doesnt fit well for long play times. If I want a twitch combat fix, single player games work well. TERA really has nothing about its MMORPGness that makes it stand out as an MMORPG.
I started playing TERA a few days ago and I just got to level 51. One thing I can say for sure is the combat is pretty fun. But I think it's true what alot of people say about the world design. If you pick up the free elite status or sub to elite, you essentially make the world of TERA 100% pointless. For starters you can port anywhere on the spot for free almost like a GM (I haven't used flight paths since day 1). And just to think flight paths used to be an innovative corner cutting way of getting around, now even that's too much work..
Once you reach the level you can do your first dungeon, you literally never have to step outside of a town ever again and you can just ride the dungeon queue all the way from around level ~23-65. In fact, that's optimal to level up since running dungeons gives a ton of XP. It's kinda of sad because my best memories (for themepark mmo's) was actually questing in zones until I had to actually physically go up to the level specific dungeon to get into it. Now you just do the next dungeon in your level range without ever going there, and when you finish the dungeon it ports you to the dungeon where you can ask yourself (where the hell am I?) This aspect of the game certainly kills a lot of the sense of adventure that COULD be there, but isn't.
Yea it kills the sense of adventure , But if u ve already seen it before it would be helpful imo and will save lots of time .
