ESO free for friends on Xbox one

Righteous_RockRighteous_Rock Member RarePosts: 1,234
My friend just got eso for free when his buddy purchased the digital version, the game downloaded on his xbox one too. I looked into this and apparently there is friend sharing for games on the Xbox one. It seems crazy but it's real. I hope they add another wave to pc to console migration, I would like tojoin them on xb1 but iI'm not paying full price for a game I already own and losing my characters.

1... what made you think this was a HW topic?

2... you need a unique one-time use code to make an ESO account: one code per purchase. You may be able to DL it through some loophole but without an account, you can't play it.

Answer and comment to your responses ...

1 - I believe this is a unique feature to Microsoft Xbox One

2 - It was not a one time code, both my friend and friend of my friend were able to play together. My friend at his own house and his friend at his friend own house.

I see they moved it to eso forum, but it's really a hardware feature I was pointing out as well.

    Yeah?

And no, it's not a hardware specific anything

CAN SEVERAL PLAYSTATION NETWORK OR XBOX LIVE ACCOUNTS SHARE ACCESS TO ONE ESOTU ACCOUNT?

Accounts for The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited on console are each tied to a unique PlayStation Network or Xbox Live account. Attempts to link a different PlayStation Network or Xbox Live account to an ESOTU console account will result in an error.

Account sharing is also a violation of our Terms of Service and can result in a permanent account ban. Players can view our Terms of Service here:https://account.elderscrollsonline.com/terms-of-service.

F I PURCHASE A DIGITAL COPY OF THE GAME, CAN MY FRIEND LOG IN TO MY CONSOLE AND ACCOUNT AND PLAY?

    Updated 06/08/2015 01:14 PM          Published 06/08/2015 01:14 PM

Once a player has purchased and linked their ESOTU and console accounts, their game can only be played if the console is logged into the Xbox or PlayStation account that the digital copy of the game was initially applied to.

Please note that sharing ESO game account information is a violation of the Terms of Service. Players should never share their account or password details with anybody else.

It's not one account on xb1, it's two or more in this case for the price of one. Playstation sounds different.

as far as I know free "copy" is not an option for any peice of hardware other than xbox one and on the xb1 you must meet certain criteria.

me and my friend have linked our xbox accounts togather *its a process you need to fully trust someone to use* so whatever game i buy he gets for free and whatever game he buys i get for free.. This included Elder scroll online as he bough it and now we both play it togather when i entered my xbox one smite code he could play it also.. This is such a great feature but it can only work if you purchase the game digitally. What we do is just each throw 30 dollars down and buy 2 games instead of 1 for 60. i would not try this with a stranger cause they can screw you over.

You were able to have someone on the xbox1 or ps4 consoles also play but it has to be on same console he registered his account on. Where if he bought the imperial edition he would get the horse anyone else playing on his console he registered the game on would play but not have access to horse.

Knowing Zos am sure they screwed up when a friend can download it on his own system and play. So more power to you guys. :-D

I do this on the xbox 360

I have two xbox's with different Live Accounts. I can digitally purchase a game on one account and download it to both xbox's. After I have the game downloaded my girlfriends Live account has access to that game on that xbox.

Its pretty cool but I have a ton of games we play online together and only paid for once. It also works on most DLC

LOL On ESOTU forums they say this is piracy and deleted post about it, So I guess Sony and Microsoft are into piracy now a days. :-D

This is a 100% standard feature of an Xbox Live Membership - for which people pay (as UserDeleted posted above) not sure about Sony. Currently advertised for all games; not all games except TESO.

    So either:

    • Zenimax know about this; have signed up for it and are misrepresenting the situation; they may be in breach of the t&cs that they have signed up to;
    • Zenimax did a deal to exclude TESO; MS guilty of falsely advertsing their Live membership; possible law suits etc/
    • Zenimax didn't know
    • Zenimax staff who sat down with MS know; Zenimax CS staff don't - which has happened before.
From memory of when the feature was introduced for the 360 there were also some articles about game companies getting paid as well based on games played etc. Was a while ago; not sure whether this still applies etc. but basically there was a remuneration system in place.

Also worth remembering that games have to be bought digitally so the scheme - presumably - was / is also intended to encourage digital distribution from which publishers get a bigger %. (There is a reason that retail games are offered at deep, deep discounts post-release.)

So are MS falsely advertising their Live membership; are Zenimax in breach of the t&cs; or does the right hand of Zenimax not know what the left hand is doing.

It must be one of them.

A reminder about ToS in the EU: software is a product protected by and subject to all applicable EU laws: copyright;  privacy; consumer protection etc. Which means that people can e.g. resell the software that they bought (several game retailers liked that) nor can they say if you buy this software / car / toaster only you can use it.

I think Zenimax know about it as the game is coded to change user, so they are allowing more than one person to use the one piece of software. CS staff may be clueless, or just do not want everyone taking advantage of it, and would prefer each person buy their own copy than share one.
