ArcheAge: Latest Producer's Letter Reveals Choice Nuggets of Info

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

ArcheAge Producer Merv Lee Kwai has posted a lengthy note on the game site to give players a bit of a heads up about what is coming in both the immediate and more distant futures. Firstly, however, he reviews all that has happened with ArcheAge since 2015 began and it's a pretty impressive list, with a major nod going out to players for being agents of change in the game.

Beginning next week, players can look forward to seeing the first information about player-crafted submarines, a significant upgrade to the glider system and, in August, the Blue Salt Festival will arrive in game.

Further along the road, devs have big plans for a new Hero System where players can nominate faction members to rise to the political rank of Hero. In addition, a upgrades are coming to housing, build expeditions will be announced, pet and mout armor systems will be upgraded alongside a new level cap of 55, and much, much more.

In addition, Kwai takes time to address some significant areas of concern that have been much discussed among players in the AA community. Among other things, he brings up botting, RNG, exploits, live and new servers.

We’re also exploring some of the ArcheAge systems that can feel the most punishing at times and seeing where we can remove pain points. Some of this has to do with improbable amounts of RNG or outright unforgiving systems like slotting lunagems. While we want to retain some challenge, we’re looking to ease the effort required to repeatedly participate and add alternative methods of progression. The best example here is the rarity of Auroria Cloaks. While it’s possible in the future the drop rate may be improved , our goal was to provide an alternative method to work toward cloaks with similar stats. The result is the introduction of a new line of cloaks that will be available in the 2.0 release as rewards from the upcoming guild contribution system. This same methodology is being applied to other concerns such as Black Pearl rarity, Item Salvaging, and itemization choices.

Archeage is one of the best mmorpgs I've ever played. Well was until they make gameplay changes and decisions based on what makes the most money. Until the business model changes for the game I really can't be asked to play it.

Hmmm sounds like AA is a sinking ship and not many paying the bill so they mention one of the main concerns RNG in hopes to bring people back but yet he says can't remove the challenge lol meaning RNG will still be RNG of 0.000000001% maybe remove 1 zero, as for exploit and hacking they can't stop that and that's main reason most of my friends stopped playing the game is full of cheaters and it's a pvp game.

Sounds like the whales are leaving the game too hence Trion is desperate.

I let the last month of patron to run out without logging in once.
If it wasn't for the insane RNG,the gear related power creep,
and the decade old PvE format,I would still be playing it.
The open world is gorgeous, the ocean is epic, the freedom to explore
and go wherever you want was a welcome change,I spent countless
hours just climbing up the mountains and gliding.
    But.
At some point,I realized I was spending hours upon hours farming, then
getting on a slow moving tractor to carry packs,it felt more like a job
    than a game.
As for the gear crafting and the RNG...Madness.There are less painful ways
to commit slow suicide of the human brain.
Then, there was all the boring PvE that was stuffed on me,when the
last reason I joined a open sandbox PvP game for was to Thempark PvE.
    Could be a great game.
Now it's just another gear grinder with a cash shop.
    And now I'm gone.
And now I can't log back in,and pass by my house and my farm, and see them
    occupied by their new owners.
    It's so hard.

Yup,left because of crazy rng related farm.

Also the gear related farm is crazy as well, just pick one trion!

Would love to see archeage become something similar to guild wars, with cap gear being fairly easy to get,and for those who want to show off their crazy dedication and grind power give them a a shiny weapon with  a minor stat boost.

    Win Win?

    Sadly it will never happen.

I dont mind encahnting systems, but make getting the scrolls easier to get,and gear easier to get.

and make the stat boost smaller, then i wont mind the crazy rng.

Basically clicking away text windows ruins every MMO, try to have fun instead of rushing things. Without story and lore all there is left is a bunch of mechanics.

I'm glad Merv Lee Kwai is addressing some concerns. I hope the game makes a big turnaround. Get rid of the cheaters and botters would be a nice start. I honestly wish Trion success and I still have hope for this game. I honestly feel they need some new leadership to make a come back, and I feel very soon we will see some major changes in personnel. They cannot keep this present course without failing long term. I wouldn't be surprised if there are already some rumblings. Trion has some big time investors and trust me they don't like bad press.

    Cheers...

They didnt address my only one concern and the reason i dont play anymore...

They could give an incentive for non subscribers to play at all by relieving 2 major restrictions, housing and Auction House. With those two restrictions in place, i have no reason to give them money at all, let alone having a hindered gameplay experience even after using the cash shop.

I don't trust Trion. They devolved Rift into a grotesque money grab, just before AA came out they tried to milk it dry, and then there was the terrible Archeage launch, another cash grab, etc. I came here hoping enough pressure has maybe forced them to change their ways, but I doubt it. It's a shame a great game like this used a lousy publisher. They never learn do they? Look at NCSoft, after all.

"They devolved Rift into a grotesque money grab....."

You couldnt be more wrong about Rift, it never was and never is a cashgrab. And AA got what it deserved(from the players view point) imo, i really doubt with that much uninformed over the top hype like AA got, any puplisher would have done well.

    "Look at NCSoft, after all."

Because Wildstar was such a great sucess story ?..

What concerns me is how dead some of the servers have become after learning about Trion's server "evolution" plans.

Much of the content they are adding is focused on veteran players who have become part-time players. Trion has done little to attract new players. The player base is stale. The land barons are able to pay for their patron and taxes through the gold they accumulate in-game.Whenever it looks like they are helping new players (eg. unbreakable charm event) they just end up creating an even bigger gap between new players and old - just look at all the Mythic and Legendary weapons.

Played since beta, had silver sub. Played for a year. Will never touch a Trion product ever again. The game is plagued with botters and hackers. I even got compromised with my account  ( hackers can access your game via the game itself, first time in 20 years of playing mmorpgs ). All these problems and many more where already known in Korea (2 years ago before launch in Europe and USA ) and they did nothing about it. Not even mentioning the huge money item mall that makes it impossible for fair pvp games. Never ever will touch a trion product ever again.

And you blame trion for that? Trion only publish the game in EU/NA, if XL games didng fix their problems with their own version of the game i doubt Trion could do anything about our version of the game. And no, im not defending Trion. IT just doesnt make any sense that XL games made a mess and nobody blames them.

I expected this and actually it's amazing that this didn't happen earlier. If there weren't so many people who continue to be duped by the shiny they would have lost more people but so many people have no common sense when it comes to these design flaws if it's the latest shiny they'll jump on the bandwagon and attack anyone with common sense as seen by the beta forum posts attacking people who refused to pay for the basics. (like looting)

So here we have a game who catered to the 1% once again who wanted people to spend money on stupid things (like opening loot bags) and had a terrible justice system that doesn't punish anyone for PKing constantly even within the same faction and once again history is showing that it's causing the game to hemorrhage  players. They don't make these changes just because they care folks it's because it's hurting their bottom line.

Oh yeah and YES it's TRION's fault. Because they "westernized" the game. This is NOT the same game as the Korean version, the korean version is actually more rewarding. But when we beta testers started pointing these facts out we were met with fanboyism the likes of which I've not seen in years. smh

    Sounds like you are guessing.

Pretty obvious that is not a guess.   The game is dying because they refuse to do anything about the RNG, bots and Labor points.  Even Blizzard has managed to control the bots, but not Trion.....

Such a shame, it could have been a great game.  I kind of feel sorry for those still playing it as it probably won't make it through the next year.

nope people blame trion for the normalization on mounts, gliders, the remove of stats on costumes, mounts being slower then they was supose to be, the new car who was supose to be bough by vocation but trion changed to gildas coins, annoying cash shop, some skills being single cast, holding back content to force the game to life longer, and since they failed on it now they are rushing, the refuse to fix the drop rate for crafting mats, they lack of response to hacks, they headstart,  they knew how many players would log to play but refuse to invest enough to cover it.

i'm pretty sure I forgot something here, but that was all trion things, and i'm not going after the archeum starter pack comparation with the pre order thing.

FOR HONOR, FOR FREEDOM.... and for some money.

Blizzard still war on bots hackers get around it, even blizzard try to put in there own adware to see if people running some type of bot program but hackers still get around it, but Trion can only do as much they can on there end if there still getting around the hack sheild that more xlgame problem as they program the game and hand it to trion. If People still upset over arche age is like there living under a rock or somthing like no a game coming over sea notting can go wrong at all. As I seen this far ahead it's time that why I didn't play it seeing the problem that games coming over sea and there trying make money here.

But I do blame trion on not putting in more security on there site so hackers didn't get around pass people 1234 password and try to buy arche age with it.
