All the "don't bother" posts are silly for a free game. Why not bother? It is free. Just expect an action game and not an MMO and you will be fine. If you don't like it what did you lose?
I am an MMO purists and I am enjoying the game for what it is. I think maybe it doesn't try to be an MMO too much so it is easier for me to enjoy.

Just curious why you didn't just continue the conversation in the other thread instead of creating a brand new one on the same subject. /shrug
Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.
To answer your question.....to counter negative threads with a positive one. But you were not truly asking that to be curious, were you?
People should always make up their own minds. And yes, the bashing of every new MMO that comes out because it didn't match their every expectation is silly.
It's even sillier that some people actually read that crap and avoid games they could've liked otherwise.
So yeah, a positive post by those who like the game is more than welcome. And it doesn't have to be added to the bottom of a pile of crap where only the most hardcore forum readers will ever see it. (The majority of people never read past the first page, and it shows in their replies)
My SWTOR referral link for those wanting to give the game a try. (Newbies get a welcome package while returning players get a few account upgrades to help with their preferred status.)

I stopped reading your post after the first two sentences because that is all it deserved.
Let me be clear, I don't need you to understand why I like the game. I don't need you to agree with me, and I don't need you to like the game.
Here is a revelation for you that you obviously did not clue yourself in on....this thread is not for you! This thread is for people on the fence because they read so many negative things. I myself was not expecting to like this game, but it was free! So my thought was try it and see for yourself. Will I like it next month? Will I be playing it next year? I don't care! I am enjoying it right now, this second. And you cannot take that away from me.
So people, either listen to this guy who does not even want to give you the chance, or just go see for yourself whether you like it or not. Why anyone would argue that logic is beyond my rational thinking.
I know exactly what you mean. I almost always have a main mmo I play. Then, I have a few I play from time to time like GW2 and ESO just because they are fun and since I own them cost me nothing. I like your perspective on this. I might actually check it out at some point. If it plays like I think it plays, it could be a fun distraction from time to time. Kind of like Defiance and my old guilty pleasure Global Agenda ;-)
The funny thing is how many of the negative comments just show a lack of motor (or any!) skill by the posters lol
Well, I suppose if they didn't have problems they wouldn't be trolling a F2P title in the beginning....
So will there be a cost associated with this game (and no not talking about the collectors edition)
but i see there is a starter pack, will this be the only cost or will you not need to buy this? cannot see any info on this, im just downloading the OB as we speak but wonder about upon release on costs etc.
This post is all my opinion, but I welcome debate on anything i have put, however, personal slander / name calling belongs in game where of course you're welcome to call me names im often found lounging about in EvE online.

tldr; It's free, might as well try it yourself. Something I'd suggest with any game. All games have positives and negatives.
Tried it myself to about 1800 prestige and saw both positives and negatives.
The positives were that it was essentially Phantasy Star Online without a ridiculous mandatory monthly fee. The shop seemed to be the least invasive and perverted I've seen in a game in a long time. In fact, I was saying to myself that they needed to make shop items better or put more in as a whole. Not sure where all this "P2W" is coming from; the game even understand microtransactions well, as I was constantly thinking to buy the $1.99 or $2.99 gems.
That said, I can definitely see someone who doesn't have time (or is lazy) capping out credits via the gem trading market. But that's just a buy product of being able to by gems with credits, or sell gems for credits. Unsure if the credits you earn from selling gems is counted towards your weekly limit. Though I could see the whole "P2W" aspect if it does not, since you can then buy upgrade items and just spend thousands to max out your weapon / accessories.
It has open world areas and mission areas, which was something I didn't expect after hearing it was a lobby game. In essence, it somewhat is, but such was a nice change of pace as a whole. Was able to help people -- my favorite thing to do in game next to crafting and enjoying storyline / RPing -- and just have some fun without worrying too much about objectives. Then do missions that granted ability points. Though, that systems seemed a lot like Global Agenda in that I expected Global Agenda to be much more than it actually was. In this light, it is good people gave the expectation that it was a lobby game similar to PSO as I went in expecting that.
The combat is entertaining and unique in several ways. Kind've reminds me a bit of Age of Conan meets Tera. Though one has to kick the habit of spamming button clicks to perform well enough in it. Not to mention that the training simulation system had limitations in this regard (more on this later).
Negatives seems to be that it's tutorial wasn't that great. It was also incredibly invasive and I kept on getting one pop up on me for about five hours because it said "Click B, click on the 'Upgrade this' highlighted button, and do such", when there was no highlighted option for me and no text that said such. Turns out, I already figured out the option almost instantly after logging in, and so it kept on asking me to do something I already knew how, popping up in every battle. The same is with most other tutorial popups, as it isn't specific and I had to play the guessing game 99% of the time. Perhaps I'm just used to either a good tutorial or figuring out things on my own without it constantly being a nuisance (also looked in the options menu to see if there was a way to turn the tutorial off, but I didn't see it after a few attempts).
Another negative for me was how long it took bosses to die. Granted, I was playing a support class, so that's probably an issue. But it is even so with normal mobs -- aside from the trash that gets one shot from an AoE. It's my own fault for keeping on playing Solo as a Lightbender as a whole, I'd imagine. In a solo scenario, I don't want to fight a boss for a long time. Mechanics are only fun once before they become irritating, especially if you have to revisit the areas over and over again (more on this later). When it comes to being in a team, I'm sure this is pretty fun, though. So this is something I would suggest anyone do -- and will do so myself if I play again -- in the future.
Lastly, I tried all of the classes in the training room, but none of them really spoke to me. Perhaps it's because I can't pick and choose abilities and they're all preset for me. Finished all the tutorials, but thought they were all too boring or too complex to understand without a proper tutorial or allowing me to make my own setup and learning from there. I opened the menu and read abilities descriptions, but it wasn't really enough to satiate my curiosity and the abilities given felt so bland, admittedly because I didn't know how to use the class. Melee -- my preferred type -- also felt super underpowered or quick to take damage -- again, likely due to my inability to learn the class or understand it's function due to not being able to set it myself or just being told to do press "mouse button, mouse button, right mouse button" for a combo and see an ability.
Though when it comes to the "feel", I probably liked the Necromancer the most. Was originally going for the slayer, but felt like (as far as training goes) it wasn't focused enough on movement. Just attacks that you're stuck in place while attacking. The chain ability that brings you to an enemy and slashes was pretty neat, though... but seemed to cost a lot of resources. Wanted to like Berserker, but when not in a real combat situation whereby I can pick my own abilities and fight real monsters, it just felt bland. I think the lack of defensive stats on gear (such as a heavy armor differentiation) is a major problem with me, as all classes seem to take the same damage. Which makes playing ranged much easier as a whole, even if the "trial mission" with extra ability points for the monk was fairly entertaining to play. Just too far too much damage, even using the seemingly increased dodge rate meter quite often.
The game also had me revisit each area over and over again for the storyline. Which I don't have a problem with as a whole, but they could've at least made it so the mission itself was a little different. Though that might be my problem in wanting to finish it and not just leave after I get an objective. But it felt annoying as someone who likes to complete things. The story seems to be predictable, though I didn't expect it to be good considering the type of game it is. In essence, I pretty much knew who were the bad goods and who were the good guys the moment they were introduced in game. Even if they were introduced as something else. Just had that air about them, which is to the credit of the art team in making those characters feel as such.
The prestige system, I'm not all that for, either. Though I'm traditional in liking level based games. This one just felt like my Item Level was my actual level. Of which, I am not really a fan of item levels, either. Though they are a necessary evil in most themepark games.
At present I'm uncertain if I want to play again. Not that interested in going through the ascension tree just to unlock a character that I may not like once I have access to their talents and can make my own build. Would rather just buy classes and play what I want. Though part of me appreciates it's not like this and is more akin to Ragnarok or Final Fantasy games in that you have to work to unlock new classes. Then again, those were games with a subscription when I played them. Perhaps it's about the mindset on that matter. But it may also be that you have to repeat the same content over and over again. I'd be perfectly fine playing thousands of hours with a game to unlock -- nay, earn -- a class if the content was always fresh and inviting. If not, I'd rather just buy a class with money and be done with it.
In hindsight, it's a game that's worth a play session or two if someone's undecided. It's free and only takes time. Would definitely be a fun game to play with friends. Maybe on the side of another game like something that makes it a complete dinner or some such. Hopefully they release more classes in the future and that one of them really interests me. Granted, I'm sure having a class unlocked is much different than the preset abilities in training. Monk seemed like it could be fun if I actually knew how to play it and survive without getting taken out a few times.
There was a quote from someone saying that if you like Destiny or PSO, then this is likely the game for you. In truth, I see where they're coming from. I'd also say if you like Ragnarok Online mixed with Tera and put in a PSO setting, then it might be as well.
You don't have to spend a single penny.
I agree with OP on this one. While not typically my kind of game I decided to give Skyforge a shot. I wasn't expecting to try the game for more than an hour as it didn't sound like my cup of tea. However I ended up loving it and highly recommend you give it a shot and just remember this isn't supposed to a traditional mmo. (more like warframe/destiny.)
I would like to add that It probably shouldn't be your only game/mmo as it is best in bite sized chunks spread throughout the week.
Action game? Its just another EQ Clone (or to you newbies out there, a WoW clone). They just have their flavor of the same thing we have all played the past 15 years.
Curious why you think this is a clone of warcraft? i cannot see the similarities...
Firstly the fighting is based on combo's and directional targetting, there are quests (but show me an mmo that hasn't got them) , you dont really go from point a > point Z
Its not fantasy, yes there are fantasy zones, but there are also mech zones, and such, so i would suggest its more steam-punk than fantasy
If anything this game resembles TSW but with a bit more colour.

is this an online football game or what ? meh
Time is the most valuable resource, so trying it does in fact cost something that is not renewable.
As of a day ago it was NOT free, matter fo fact it carried a VERY high price tag if you wanted the two classes,The 20 pack got you nothing, the next pack got you one class and the highest which i think was 60 bucks got you two classes. How is it just to pay 60 bucks for a shallow game to get two classes? If i pay 60 bucks for a game,i EXPECT to get EVERY class and the entire game and i expect a TRIPLE A game.
Luckily i only paid the 20 but even that low cost left me feeling unhappy as the game could not even hold my interest for 2 days ,it is that boring. The atlas is the biggest LOLit is a straight line, why even bother to pack ,should just give the abilities to the players automatically.
None the less you are correct OP,it is FREE now to try,go ahead try it,you might like it,i know i don't like it at all.
The game feels like a cross between Tabula Rasa and SWTOR but in the worst possible way.BTW neither game had fun combat or fun class structures, just a connect the dots game that i have seen far too much of these days.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
All bs and not true in any way.
Open beta started THREE days ago, it was FREE, and you start FREE with THREE classes. And "VERY HIGH" is bs as well, $20 got you ONE extra class, the Berserker...bringing it up to FOUR classes alon with $12 worth of cash shop currency. If you paid for the $50 one, or whatever it was you got $30 worth of currency and two extra classes bringing it to FIVE. You also got a mount. Also you can get EVERY class and everything that was sold through playing the game, you do not have to buy anything. It takes all of 3 days of playing to get the class they were selling in the $20 pack.
You don't have to like the game, but be honest in your criticism.
So you are telling me then you never try anything for yourself, you always go on what someone else tells you to do?
I'm sorry, did I offend you with my logic and rational thinking? I wonder if you went around to all the negative threads complaining?
I thought i was the only one who thought this.
It's really no different than swtor. The fleet in swtor is the main hub, and you travel to planets, much like how the observatory works in skyforge. The similarities are quite striking to be honest.
I agree, it could come down to that. The combat alone won't keep you playing for the long haul though.
In the end, if you try it you will find out for yourself. It amazes me there are actually people fighting that concept in this thread lol. I thought I would not like this game, but I tried it anyway. I am still enjoying it. No idea how long it will hold my attention but oh well.
The caps mean little, if you do reach cap you can still progress your char just in other ways. Missions start to reward you with other things you need, like, resources for temples and missions you send your followers on.
I agree about the combat, and i'm not a fan of it, but there are other things that Skyforge does well. But yeah, the combat is the major feature that will either make or break a game, and i believe this is going to be Black Desert's main problem also.
