General: Battletech Headed to Kickstarter for Reboot

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

From the same team that brought the world Shadowrun Hong Kong, Harebrained Schemes, comes the news that a Battletech reboot is on the way pending a successful Kickstarter initiative. The Kickstarter will take place later this fall, but the team has unveiled a brand new site to give potential backers information about their vision of the game.

Jordan Weisman, the creator of BattleTech and MechWarrior, is back with the first turn-based BattleTech game for PC in over two decades. Steeped in the feudal political intrigue of the BattleTech universe, the game will feature an open-ended Mercenaries-style campaign that blends RPG ‘Mech and MechWarrior management with modern turn-based tactics.

Check out the Battletech site for more information.

Art style seems to be based on the re-envisioned designs used for Mechwarrior:Online.

A good thing in my mind but if you are a diehard classics fan it might rub you the wrong way.

Sorry this is a bit off topic hope I'm not banned, but how can this team have "brought the world  Shadowrun Hong Kong" when its hasn't even been released yet???

I'm really not the sentence/fact police, but don't you really mean by the same team that worked on or is currently working on Shadowrun Hong Kong?? Hard to make one of their selling points a unreleased game?

Well it is set to release in a month... So it is not like it is just a design document and some hope. =P

I like that HBS brought about Shadowrun on the PC, but I did not like how they did it.

They will have to do a better job at Battletech before they get more of my cash...

I'm not big into Kickstarting things, but I enjoyed Shadowrun Returns and I love Battletech. I plan to get behind this when they run the Kickstarter.

Harebrained Schemes seems to be hitting all of my nerd buttons the last few years. Loving it.

i dont remember Battletech, if this was a PC game only thats probably why. With that said, i would love to see a modern reboot of the MechWarrior side scroller from Super Nintendo.

For the digital gaming market it is better known under the Mechwarrior brand.

Battletech is the miniature tabletop wargame that said computergames are based on. =)

There was already a Mechwarrior/ Battletech type game that was released not too long ago.....

It was action based and horrible.... I would not support any more kickstarter mechwarrior games after that atrocity.

I hope they succeed, BT/MW universe pretty much dead. MWO is just a cash grab, and Harmony Gold being a douche with certain mech designs. I love MW (who doesnt?), but things are looking bleak for them.

    Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!

Er...  Sorry about the high-pitched fangirlish (but manly, very manly.  Yes.  *ahem*) squeal, but...

Weeeeell...  About those certain mechdesigns Harmony Gold have been squatting on like a particularly malevolent goblin:

It seems Catalyst Game Labs have decided they are willing to tell Harmony Gold to go play in heavy traffic.

I enjoyed Shadowrun Returns, curently playing Shadowrun Dragonfall, and look forward to Shadowrun: Hong Kong. Looking forward to see what Harebrained does with Battletech. I like the turn based tabletop game better than  the Mechwarrior simulation type of games. I stink at the simulater games.
