Been on Win10 for several months now. The current build is the best build and I am having no problems whatsoever with it. It is loads better than 8.

funiest thing about windows 10 for me was i went through my normal routine of loading drivers and programs i know was going to use almost immediatly not knowing windows 10 was doing the same thing for me automatically, so i ended up messing up my windows install. second try i left it alone let it do it thing and like magic i had sound drivers video drivers everything. not a problem since.

I've upgraded on two desktop pcs and a laptop with zero issues. Amd drivers are working, nvidia drivers are working. All games working just fine. Did you jack up your system somehow? You a tinkerer? lol

I've heard pretty positive things about it.  Nothing as invasive as an operating system goes without a hitch.  Even well established OSs cause problems for some people.  Thus far, the news is good enough for me to port over when it's my turn.

major update coming this week and another one in oct.  so if anyone is waiting for the upgrade upgrade at around dec.

Had read that the October update is the equivalent of a service pack, and that its at that point we'll be seeing the 'full version' of Win 10. I think anyone unsure at present as to whether they want to move to the new OS, might want to wait until the october update is completed, as that is the point where they should have not only fixed most of the launch issues, but also see full implementation of Win 10. image

No idea, i guess will have to wait and see what october brings. Personally i'll probably hang on till around february/march time to make up my mind whether to get it or not, by then all the pro's and con's of having the thing should be known. image

    1)  I do a lot of networking.  I can tell you that our hang up of going away from XP is we have to recertify every build, ever version, and every variation for each of those with Win7 (which is a HUGE undertaking).  So it's slowly rolling out.

    2)  The more I play with 10, the more I like it.  Torval's little tips helped me get over my gripes.

    3)  I'm now considering swapping my desktop over to it.  Thinking about doing a clean install and shift all my stuff to my spare drives.

With all the different variations to pc's, it's a miracle one os can run well on as many as it does.

I gave up on Creative Labs when they didn't have a working driver for Vista for their high-end gaming cards a year after Vista was released.  They also has plenty of time to work with developer and test versions of Vista and try to produce a driver before release, but they don't seem to care enough about customers.  Ten years later, I see they're still doing the same thing and I'm only surprised they are still in business.

If your motherboard's built-in sound isn't good enough, there are other brands out there.  HT Omega was the brand I used when I threw away my Creative Labs card, and it looks like they have W10 drivers already.  All you have to do is look on support pages to see if other manufacturers have drivers and if people are reporting issues with Windows 10.

Thank you to all of you that are currently beta testing the release of WIndows 10. In 3-6 months I will upgrade once you get all those bugs out. In the meantime, sticking with Witcher 3, GTA V, and ESO on Windows 7 :-).

Win7 will be supported until 2020.

Does Win10 do auto updates and can you turn that function off?

I just did also. When i see op post like this i have to call BS. He had to have done something wrong. And if you didn't wait to get the official download your copy of 10 message from Microsoft and did it with the download tool then it was stupid because alot of tech guys are now saying if you do this you can and will run into problems. But there are people who can't wait and think they are tech experts and do this. Then they go on messages boards when it goes wrong posting how it sucks. I got the message that my copy was ready to download and it took less that 35 minutes to be installed and running. Not one problem through the whole thing. All my programs and games all work. I have nvidia card also and have the latest drivers too.

Yes and no you can't turn it off.

I also wonder how many ppl in this thread chose express install with upgrading. Meaning they basically uploaded their complete browser history, bookmarks, agenda contacts in Skype, Hotmail to Microsoft. And gave Microsoft permission to track everything they do on their own PC and allow Microsoft to sell this information to 3rd parties (check if you don't believe). Congratulations, you now also own an unique advertising id, with which Microsoft will show you personalised ads on your own OS (soon more to be followed). And their documents location is synced to the cloud (Microsofts servers).

It is worse then Android from a privacy settings perspective lol.

And while you think this is a free OS, it is just free for current Microsoft license owners for a year. After that for new pc's you will have to pay for this just like any former Microsoft OS.

Update: We must stress that the feedback being collected in the Windows Technical Preview will only occur within the Technical Preview period. Once Windows 10 launches to the public as RTM, the data Microsoft collects will be removed from the operating system. This isn't a permanent feature within Windows 10, and therefore should not be a concern to your average Joe.

I didn't mention the keylogging at all for the same reason. Tinfoil or not, what I wrote is easy to check if you visit some technical websites.

Look, believe what you want to believe about Windows 10, I don't really care. This is just the reason why I am not upgrading atm. Here is some information :

    http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2015/jul/31/windows-10-microsoft-faces-criticism-over-privacy-default-settings

    http://www.theregister.co.uk/2015/08/03/windows_10_privacy_defaults/

There are ways to disable a lot of the snooping by the OS (Windows 10 Home users have less options though). Keep in mind that any update can enable settings again which you disabled. Anyway, if you are not computer savvy (enough to mess with registry and scripts) and care about your privacy, I suggest you read the articles before upgrading.

It is still soon after the launch, so expect to see more articles about this. I also expect for Microsoft to make some changes if the backlash is too much (after they tried this first lol).

I just find it hilarious how so many ppl are so eager to upgrade because it is free atm. Imo Microsoft just showed Google and Facebook how it is really done :p

Almost forgot: Gamers should also keep in mind that the automatic updates (which can't be turned off), could roll back your graphics card drivers. I think some ppl in this thread already described a problem with that. I expect that at some point Microsoft will provide an option to turn these kind of updates (not security related) off though.

i had no problems going from 7 to windows 10...

    I love it.. works fine..

All that privacy talk.. omg.. mircosoft only collects data to ensure more convient stuff for future updates of windows 10

I have no problem with that..

If your not storing childporn on your pc you will be fine

Windows XP 64 bit edition is still untouched as far as I'm concerned.  All the resource possibilities of a 64 bit operating system with the light weight Windows XP facilitating it all.  Why would you want goofy animations and sound FX when you move your mouse or breathe next to your computer?  Why would you want your PC to make you pretend you're using a lesser tablet style device?  Windows XP 64 bit edition for life baby.

Oh even better, nobody even bothered to write viri? viruses? virui? for it.. less people use it than mac users minus linux users.  You can surf the web all you want without having to carry humpback resource-hogs that are usually afk when the fight begins anyway.  Security updates??? Who cares.... It's for playing games I'm not checking my bank account, and the average hacker forgot Win xp 64bit even existed.

I'll let you guys fight over the latest greatest failure from Microsoft.

  • ThaneThane Member EpicPosts: 3,534

    seriously?

just let those people do what they want.

you wanna use an old OS fine. ever concidered going back to windows 3.11?

no spy systems, you could and actually HAD to set everything yourself (ram and whatnot, via DOS!)

this must be THE system for you.

just saying: all you "I read this about win x!" why don't believe those who use it, and have NO PROB AT ALL with it.

it's running smooth like shit, the UI is alot better than the last version, and NOTHING is crashing.

what windows will NOT be able to fix, is a fucked up system.
