guess you people aren't rdy for a game as complex as Secret World, the complaints I see above, I also see the same complaints about every other mmo out there now, some people might wanna stop playing mmo's completely

This "complex" game have the most basic, boring, braindead combat I've ever seen in any MMO. A blind monkey wouldn't have trouble with it. You can actually lvl all the way without using more than 2-3 abilities, and it wouldn't even be hard.

The combat is literally the only thing keeping me from playing it more. It's also the most common complaint against the game. It needs more reworking, period.

Try to be excellent to everyone you meet. You never know what someone else has seen or endured.

Well the game cant be that good or players would be in there right now... just sayin'
exactly, all these fairy-tale posts , I doubt any actually played AoC or TSW for more then a few months.  it is like  sympathizing world hunger while one eats a  dozen dunkin donuts. If these game were so great and funcom was such a magical company, then why are they shutting down, hmmmmmmmmmmMMMMMMMM.
I don't think TSW as such has any major problems at the moment. It's a pretty lively game. People are just worried that a Funcom collapse might mean the end of TSW, but I don't think it's TSW per se that's causing problems for Funcom (although its failure to live up to Funcom's own absurd projections may have something to do with investor problems a few years ago, which probably had a knock-on effect to present troubles). The problem seems to be with Funcom as a whole and relates to the amount of money they've had to borrow over the years to make the games they've made, some of which have been successful (AO, TSW) and some not (AoC, the lego game). They've taken risks, some of which haven't paid off.

What makes you say that Age of Conan hasn't been successful, I was under the impression that Age of Conan by now has paid for its own development and then some, which I don't think can be said of TSW? (I don't have any references to point to, that's why I'm asking if you do ;))

Oh I'm sure it's been a success at some level, e.g. in the sense of paying for itself and even being modestly profitable, but (rather as with TSW) Funcom over-estimated how successful they thought it would be - it was hyped (not just by observers but by Funcom pretty much) as the WoW killer of its time, and it did have a huge initial uptake, as with many contenders for that throne in that era, but it very quickly dropped.  Not only that but the lead designer resigned (or lost his job? can't quite remember) after the initial launch fiasco.  I liked AoC a lot, but it was a huge disappointment for many people who had been taken in by the massive hype that preceded it.

    2)  The number 1 priority after acquiring the game is to fix combat.  MMORPG's are 99% combat, so if it sucks, then 99% of your game sucks.

[...]  If they had anyone in their company researching their own forums and the web, then they'd see that the combat is literally the only thing the developer(s) should be working on until it doesn't suck.
One of the things I like TSW for is that TSW is maybe the least combat-heavy game out there, definitely not 99%

Own forums and the web, that's two different things... most folks in game have no issues with it, some even like it, and some say it's the weakest part but still ok. (There was an attempted trollbait thread not long ago on the forum, that ended with similar results :awesome: )

And on that basis the question shifts a lot... should we (as FC) spend tons of money and time and resources (since it's the core of the game) to change something which most of our customers like, or neutral with, just because peeps who are not playing complain on the web? Let's say we don't lose nobody during the process, and even double the playerbase... worths it, spending all those resources? Or it's safer to spend it on more content for a couple years, for our current players? :)

And in here I'd like to connect with the last question in the video: keep it secret :) if you remember I spoke against the b2p switch as well, for the same reasons... nothing's wrong with being a niche game with a small but loyal playerbase. Ok, not in the beancounters' books, sadly.
Maybe it's not 99%, but it sure felt like 99% when I was playing.  I didn't get more than a few days into the game before I left.

Not sure what you mean about a trollbait thread, but I'm sure that if you ran a poll on the forums that asks what needs to be fixed in TSW and you listed combat/combat mechanics alongside ten other things, then combat would be at the top of that poll.  It's the universal reason I hear from everyone who left.

In your third paragraph you're advocating keeping the game in maintenance mode.  Essentially lets not change the parts that people don't like, but keep feeding the people that have stuck around.  Well, I'm sorry, but that's not how a game grows and when a game doesn't grow, then it contributes to the decline of the companies stock.  Then investors start bailing... then there's no game left to play.

Maintenance mode only works if you've got a smash hit or two on the books along with a game that's barely floating.  If you have three games that are barely floating and one that has sunk, then the only option is to find out why people aren't playing your games and fix them, then advertise that they're fixed.

Exactly that, someone dropped on the forum "hey, what do you think about combat", and the outcome was fairly positive, opposed to what usually happens on off-side forums  =) Of course that's a small sample, but you get a similar result when you ask it in-game. Most (present) players are either like the combat, or have no problems with it, and a few don't like it much, but can bear it because they like the game more.

I'm not advocating maintenance, that's reality :) on the present market, which is filled with games and easy to switch onto an another one, and the whole market is shifting towards mobile anyways, retaining your existing customers has more value than burning a truckload of resources in a gambling attempt to grab a few more - especially with making core changes in a fairly old, established game. That usually invokes the doomsayers to chant the fearsome "NGE, NGE" song  (and on the side, FC doesn't even have the resources to burn, in the first place)

Still, they're trying to open to other players, just not in such big steps, If you check the Issue 12 preview column, I wrote under that too: adding dailies, an improved LFG tool and a new tier for the raids... steps towards the "usual, common MMO mechanics", and I personally don't like those either :) maybe I'm a purist.

I think if FC would get a money-shower from a secret soci... secret donator, first task should be to finish AoC's revamps and updates (those customers are waiting since years and are still loyal), then do a sweep for the remaining bugs in all 3 games, and then keep the usual routine of content updates with TSW Issues and give the rest of the money to the game Joel's working on :) Yep, even with truckloads of extra resources I'd say not messing around with TSW's combat, but maybe that's just me...
