EverQuest II players who are flagrant violators of others' game play fun and who continually break the rules will be flagged for a new "prison server" called Drunder, an experiment being conducted by Daybreak within the game. The trip is one-way with no chance for redemption. Customer Service Game Masters will be the ultimate decision-makers on who ends up taking the trip to Drunder.

This is a terrific idea, some people may actually ask to be sent there, so they can associate with their fellow "vermin"

does this mean that "flagrant violators of others' game play fun and who continually break the rules" will be allowed and unpunished on the prison server?

DragonRealms basically did this with their "The Fallen" server a long while back. More games should do this.

I bet initially there will be, but I'm sure it will wear off in time. This is a fantastic idea. Love it.

That it is fail is not true guys. This has, and is being done already, by other games with success

Not MMORPGs that have 100s of hour of leveling and gear progression.

Being banned on a cheater server in Counterstrike or DAYZ is nowhere the same.

This won't work longterm in EQ2 - it's a f2p game where endless accounts can be created on any server to troll and disrupt gameplay.

The basic problem is assuming that those who get moved to the prison server have any desire to actually play the game instead of trolling their intended target guilds/players on real servers.

Hell I'm almost tempted to play EQ 2 again just to see how hard it is to get sent to the prison server and what's its like playing on it. I think this feature might have the potential to actually bring more trolling fucktards to the game not thin their ranks.

Ffxi has jail since 2002 release, you get 1-3 days jail where you can't do anything but still talk to linkshell and friends so most just log out and log in when it's done, repeated more then 2 time has a chance of being banned from game as account so no alts can play either, need to buy the game again to be able to play. I miss those days when everyone was fair or not accepted in game for long, look at ffxiv reported bots with proof pic of bot and no action against them.

A dev should login as a raid boss from time to time and just stomp everything in sight.

Brilliant! I used to have a naughty room when I ran a guild back in my WoW days, though if people behaved I'd let them out, eventually!

Terrible idea, people who like to troll and disrupt gameplay have no interest in playing the game , they just want to troll and disrupt. They will just create alt accounts and continue to do so until banned or transferred to prison server at which point they create another account.
Except that can be said for anyone banned. What this does it take the people who are interested in playing but who also want to disrupt the play of others and put them all together in their own little home made hell. I imagine they will still deal with those who constantly make accounts to "troll" as they always have.

So trouble makers get more live events than the behaved players.

Do they send gold spammers to the jail server rather than banning them?  Maybe they could cut a deal with gold spammers that they can sell their stuff on the jail server so long as they stay off of the other servers.  Let players who want to buy gold from the gold spammers do so on the jail server without punishment, but send them to jail if they do so on other servers.

That particular approach strikes me as intuitively likely to be a disaster.  But it would still be interesting to see exactly how it played out.  Disasters can make for good entertainment so long as you're not the one funding them.

This is a great idea, this would be a great way to remove a lot of griefers and trolls off servers. I hope this is a huge success and carries on the many many more games.
  • GruntyGrunty Member EpicPosts: 8,657
Only subscribed accounts will be available on the prison server and there will be no customer support.  So they can still give grief all they want but only to other asshats and they have to pay for the privilege.

"Players sentenced to the prison server will receive no customer support and will be required to maintain membership in order to access Drunder to play.  Other players, should they choose to do so, can move their accounts to Drunder but, similar to the sentenced offenders, will not be allowed to return to "normal" servers."
