6 Million Copies in 6 Weeks | The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt | MMORPG.com
CD Projekt Red has sent out an open letter that astonishing fact that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt sold over six million copies in just six weeks since launch.
Good for them. I hope the AAA companies take note and learn what was done right and apply it to their own games instead of mimicking successes.
especially since the budget for the witcher 3 was actually pretty low (well salaries in poland are low of course but still)
i hope 6mio meets their expecations
If there is one company that deserves the success its CD Projekt Red. They put there hearts into Witcher 3 and its a well deserved success. Little disappointed on the whole mod tools thing but that's easily excused when you put out an amazing game.

The difference between a single player game and a MMO are pretty major. AAA MMO devs have almost nothing to learn from this, as the vast majority is simply not applicable.
There is one take away for all game developers. If you make a good game, people will buy it.
Nice to hear. I have no interest in W3 myself, but this is nevertheless great news. Though, I would love to play it if I could choose my gender. Hopefully the next game from CD Projekt allows us to to choose, I defiantly would buy it if I could.

From what I understand the budget actually climbed up significantly specifically because CDPR hired a lot of foreign people who wanted to paid competitively. Not to mention the marketing budget was about the same as development budget in the end after the delay.
Civilized men are more discourteous than savages because they know they can be impolite without having their skulls split, as a general thing.

Not a simple thing to do, the game is based around the guy after all, to change that, would probably double the workload, and effectively make it 2 seperate games.
Its a fantastic game no doubt I enjoyed most of my time with it. Now if they could just fix the framerate on ps4 I would be happy. An option to drop to 900p would be nice. I had to stop playing my ng+ cuz i just couldnt get past the combat lag its really bad imo.
Well deserved, actually I would say I'm surprised that they only sold 6 mil.
Witcher 3 is a beautiful masterpiece, they deserve all the credit and recognition they're getting. I hope other devs take heed of what this studio has produced, and get their AAA game on.

Of course - but this is not exactly a big learning point for any game dev - it's just common sense.
One would think. However, looking at some of the garbage that has been released, you have to wonder...
Meh, the sales are good, but the game came at the cost of CDPR themselves and the ending to Geralt's story. No chance i'll trust what they're saying with Cyberpunk 2077 before the game is released.
Witcher 3 - decent standalone game, poor sequel.
Still, GOG is the best thing about them.

Looks like that if you produce good software people are perfectly happy to pay for it.
Other developers and publishers should take a lesson from CDP.

I'm not an IT Specialist, Game Developer, or Clairvoyant in real life, but like others on here, I play one on the internet.

I wonder what % of sales were console vs. PC - don't need DRM for console games
