And every grammatical error. It was tough to read so I'm going to assume his or her first language isn't English.
I love how these propaganda posts appear on the Pantheon forum from time to time. It's as if Brad pays people to go out hype his game. Mr. McQuaid is the reason I won't back this game. I do hope it's successful along with the vast number of other Kickstarter projects that I'm backing. But, Brad's methods don't inspire confidence in me as a consumer. The disaster that was the release of Vanguard and the hideous nature of his failed Kickstarter attempt left a bad taste in my mouth.
At the end of the day Brad McQuaid is going to have to do a lot more than flash his resume around to make this title a success.
Not to mention this game looks worse than Vanguard despite it being 2015 now

While perception of art is subjective, I don't think anyone can honestly argue Vanguard looks better than the most recent screenshots or even the video from the older build before they switched to Unity 5.
I'm about as "old school" as they come, and I will not be playing this for the same reasons I had no interest in playing EQ when it came out. It's as simple as different strokes for different folks.
With great respect, I could understand your reasons.
My point in a nut shell is this :
If the game is as advertised. Large crowds will roll in, others will follow to simply see what's going on. Being a REAL mmo ( been a long time ). Most will stay.
I'll admit EQ when it came out was not my style. But the need for an mmo seems to overpower that at least for me. Also, this is 2015, I'm not expecting stick figures and dull flat land graphics.
People bring people. If many are playing it, it would be impossible not to give it a try, even if the basic synopsis is not my style.
It's quite possible not to try it. As I said, I have no interest in the games basic mechanics, and I know more than a few that wouldn't try it. This is assuming that it's even as "good" a game as you said as it's advertised to be, which in my opinion is going to be its biggest hurdle.
My point in a nutshell is this:
"everyone" will not play it.
OK, I understand you don't like the game. Your committed to this, simply because it's a fact. No one can tell you what you like and dislike.
Can I please with great humbleness ask just one more question, just because your the perfect one to ask because you DO NOT LIKE Pantheon.
If for example, one million players instantly play the game. It turns out to be a very likable game for many then three million more follow. Then the games momentum builds even deeper.

WOW had millions of players. I have never played WOW. Just not my type of game.
If you really look at graphics you will see in those pictures a ton of fog, meaning most of the graphics beyond 20 ft is just fog.I actually can't stand fog in maps and as to Vanguard,it basically used global lighting making everything bright but i was ok with that.Vanguard's graphic clarity had a large range,i would rather see objects in the distance than fog.
Also if you look at those Pantheon screens they are tight /small visuals,of course you can bring out a tad more HD when going that route. However i have never much liked console games for this very reason.I prefer/want large vistas,i like to be seeing a world ,not just a rocky wall on both sides of me.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

I understand you're point and respect your opinion, but for me fog adds ambiance, and can be used to hide things to strategic effect. IMHO always being able to see everything is strategically boring. I think there are times and places for large vista's and times and places for dark claustrophobic areas.

Hiding things are good for PvP mmos like Darkfall where you can hide from other real players, but in a PvE game, what's the use. Monsters auto find you. It's not like the fog effects them.
I personally hope everyone doesn't play this game. I'll settle for the like minded players that understand what this game is trying to achieve instead. A small playerbase of the same types of players can be amazing.
My real fear is that Pantheon won't even be a shell of what Vanguard was. I'm sure most people didn't find that game very appealing but i thought it was amazing concept wise but poorly executed and unfinished. Do we really expect a better version of that game with a budget nowhere near Vanguards? I can't see it, but i'm hopeful.

If I understand the game's goals correctly, it is looking for a niche audience, not a widespread one. McQuaid recently posted somewhere on MMORPG talking about his vision for the future of MMOs--which just happens to be for smaller games aimed at smaller, well-defined player bases.
I expect Pantheon to be about as old-school as it's possible to get these days, based on their website.
This will appeal to many people whose definition of a real MMO includes required grouping.
I hope the game is entirely successful, whatever the developer's track record, simply because so very many people have asked for just this kind of game here and elsewhere.

I don't know, it seems to me nothing would stop them from having fog affect mobs.
However, to answer your question, the goal in PvE isn't really to have an even playing field. The goal is to present the player with predefined challenges. In that sense fog could be used to create a challenge. It's not what it does to the mobs, it's what it does to you. It makes you adapt. You have to use a different strategy to get to that thing in the distance because you can't see what's coming along the way. The point is you don't put it everywhere, but at times and in places it can mix things up.
Not Troll bait........It's about the only mmo. Maybe you like the Quick-fun-fun-games passing themselves off as mmos. Just select one of them on the list of over 200.
When everyone is switching over to the only mmo on the market, I would guess you will too, unless you REALLY like quick, cheaply done, small easy games with auto everything.
Hay try this !.....Jump into a dynamic event. Run to the bathroom, take a number two, come back, open the chest and get your blue epic.....now your a winner !!!!!!!
I'm going back to bed.
"Not troll bait" O.o
This post says it all my friend... the only MMO... LMAO

Not sure what this fog discussion is about. Of the several dozen screenshots I've seen, only a few had fog. It wasn't like EQ where the clipping plane created a wall of fog all around you. It actually varied from rolling wispy fog, to only fog in low lying areas, to cloudy fog in certain spots.
After looking at all of the videos and many screenshots it looks like something from about 5 years ago or so. It looks slightly better than LotRO but in no way compares to any major release in the last 5 years.
The art direction reminds me a lot of EQ2. It's difficult for me to compare art direction to EQ1 since it was so very basic. I'd say it was a step up from EQ1 in that it is more cohesive in its presentation.
I'm also skeptical at some of the released screenshots. The few gameplay videos make the graphics look far more dated than the screenshots.
Considering its pre-alpha and they've yet to release a video in Unity 5, I'd say too soon to tell. Personally having played LoTRO, what little I saw in the last unity 4 video was easily superior graphically. There's a number of nice looking games being developed in Unity 5 and every update they've shown us in the last year was a considerable improvement over the last.

I'm not a graphics hound, I could go either way on graphics they don't have to be great. What I don't like is when they put all their resources into making the game look better such as AOC. What a mess !
Putting my beliefs aside,
I can talk more on why I believe everyone will be playing Pantheon using graphics this time for my example.
If the game is rich in content, players will forgive the level of graphics. If it's so rich in content, it will surely catch the attention of the masses. Then people playing will cause others to follow. Now this depends on rich content.........will have to wait and see !
Same for :
- Monthly subscriptions
- Hard or Very hard content
- Group based mmo as long is for some degree you can solo.

I never played WoW except for the 2 week trial, just to see what all the fuss was about.
And I still don't know what all the fuss was about.
So the number of people playing has no bearing on why I would decide to play an MMO. It's a pretty silly theory, actually.
If 3 million girls play Hello Kitty, would you be jumping in there with them?

Good point Bone,
You drove it home with your WoW example an Hello Kitty.
I'll admit the header " Everyone will play Pantheon " is a little overboard with a little shock and awe mixed in. Surely everyone will not play, but my point was more like this :
Many will drop their deep rooted " I'm making a stand and will never play " because of graphics, payment model, who created it, group based game and so many other what I would call quirks, if the game is deep.......Deep is the key !....It's been a long time !
Please don't take the word quirk personally, that's not meant for you. Your WoW example proves that, but for many others it is. "If Brad's behind it I'll NEVER play ". Now that's out right goofy. That's about the same as saying " I don't want ice cream because you didn't buy me a toy.
If I like quick fun fun games am I allowed to try this?
In all seriousness though I do think the genre could use a game like this. I will certainly try it if and when it gets released.
If you like quick fun fun games that are solo with others around you, you would love a Massive Multi-player Online Role Playing Game. It's been so long, maybe you never tried one. Not sure.
It will be interesting because some people now believe that games should be free at all costs and development time has no value at launch (some how). Its like asking someone who has been breathing musty air their whole life for free to suddenly start pay for cleaner air. They may want to try cleaner air, and actually believe cleaner air may in fact be better than musty air, but they are incapable of paying up front for cleaner air.
So my point is less about people trying the game because because they don think its "their thing" as others are posting but because it goes against so now inbreed belief that computer software should be free at all costs, and if they "like" it they will decide how much money to give you for your work.
"If Brad's behind it I'll NEVER play ". Now that's out right goofy. That's about the same as saying " I don't want ice cream because you didn't buy me a toy.
I will use this quote as another pointer what to expect from the community of this game.
I am completely with delete, on this one.
It should be about the game and not who made it, person, corporation or otherwise. All you are doing in that case is excluding yourself from a game you might possibly enjoy. And that makes you, the only loser in that scenario.
Hell, I would even play Renfails game if it was my thing, even though I detest the guy!

My quote was a bit too long. It was about the toy and the icecream. His comparison is: I don't want free item B because you didn't give me free item A first!
Do you really feel that comparison applies to the situation here?

Actually I did not really understand the toy and the ice cream part but I agree that personal bias against individuals or corporations when it comes to games is rather childish.
Perhaps thats where the toy and ice cream came from.
