Mad Max, from Warner Bros. Interactive and Avalanche Studios is very obviously a labor of love for both companies. It's got the lore hooks from the films, it nails the tone and look of Miller's recent film, and it's also got some of the best car-based combat in games today. But it's where the open world RPG-lite tries to do too much that it falters.

It is an Avalanche game though so for myself I expected an open world with to many things to do and not enough reason to complete them all.
I also felt robbed that it took so long to get the V8 then once you placed in your vehicle you barely received a performance difference. It felt more like a cosmetic change with the blue flames now exiting the tail pipes upon a boost use, a different sound file, and model / texture changes.
Plus the requirement to complete a certain amount of wasteland missions before you can continue the main story (I thought those were supposed to be optional) and the required building of certain Fortresses made and experience which just felt like a grind.
I did finish it though, and one by one cleared each zone of each territory which progressively became less and less of a celebration as more became knocked out.
There were also locked locations on the map which were designed only to be opened upon certain missions being activated. I enjoyed and did not enjoy this aspect. On one hand you can upgrade a Fortress to show all of the scavenging locations(even ones which you cannot currently access in that territory) I thought this was nice. It resulted in several locations though in which I wasted time going to the location only to discover I cannot enter and loot it which really pulled me out of the playing aspect.
On the flip side to that if I just discovered randomly a location which was locked it did not feel as robbed of my time. I just happened across it and I didn't feel short-changed.
I will say that the vehicle physics are rather wonky at times. The race to get the V8 (which does take place too late in the game) is an exercise in frustration because of them. In fact I still haven't beaten it.
AN' DERE AIN'T NO SUCH FING AS ENUFF DAKKA, YA GROT! Enuff'z more than ya got an' less than too much an' there ain't no such fing as too much dakka. Say dere is, and me Squiggoff'z eatin' tonight!

Chumbucket,idea stolen right off lotr.
Voice overs have zero proximity, they sound like they are coming from the same place all the time.
It might come off as ok but in reality it is a bad game design,i don't even see the reason to play since it basically plays itself, just follow the gear markers.
Just another fast cash grab while the movie is still fresh in people's minds. How long did they take on this game,12-18 months?
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
There is quite a bit to enjoy but so much of it is just meh.
As Solar Prophet said "It's basically Shadows of Mordor with a Mad Max skin" You can definitely see the inspiration but I'd have to add that I feel that Shadows is a much superior game, for me anyway. Still have fun with it, I just love it's Nemesis system.

Yeah, the Nemesis system is part of what makes Mordor tick and last. Mad Max doesn't have that. Or the free-running, or the better combat. So it's a bit inferior, despite an awesome representation of the Mad Max world.

-The weather feature was pretty cool, too, though it seemed to come at really annoying times.
-I was really expecting more story missions... or just flat out "special stuff". There were what... maybe 15 main missions and 11-12 stronghold missions total(if that) for your 4 strongholds?
-Bill, you forgot the dumbest thing in the game: The surveillance balloons. OMG were they badly implemented... there was usually some kind of chore you had to do to get them to function, then once you did, you had to hold a button to go up and down(the ONE TIME a cutscene would have clearly sufficed) and once you get up there, you'd discover like 2-3 PoI's(out of a couple dozen in the area), and get quick travel.
Still, it was in a well made Mad Max world, the convoys were a blast and easily a highlight of the game. How great it would be if they worked on the car combat a bit more and put out a new Interstate '76!
To be fair, this doesn't try to be "a movie" game. And it is good. Just not great as it could have been. Movie games though... shoot, I can't! Maybe Spider-Man 2?

Interstate 76... You just brought a smile to my face One of the first action orientated open world games I can remember playing. With a hell of a fun multiplayer component as well.
I would absolutely love to see a remake.
