World of Darkness was an MMORPG that so many hung their hopes upon. For a vast many reasons, it never came to be. But that hasn't stopped a group of the macabre setting's fans from making their own supernatural horror MMORPG. Enter, Project Dogmat. We caught up with the indie MMO's design team ahead of their upcoming Kickstarter to talk about the game, its design goals, and what CCP has to say about the project.

Yes modern mmo! We need more of those. So sick of companies pumping out fantasy ones
Sad about that its an indie studio making it. Not that they arent good but it takes just too much manpower and cash to make a mmo that an indie studio could never succeed in really making one
Well except for Star Citizen but no other studio can expect that success

Yeah, it's sooo unique and different from world of darkness.. Wonder if they're going to put some mages with a nice new magik twist: They can change reality itself! THAT would put them apart from WoD...

Interesting and hope they do well.  Will be keeping an eye on this one.

MMORPG: What other projects have your team members worked on? AiryKai: Well... we still haven't had any major game projects. For some team members this is the first experience of such activities. Others participated in the development of many small games for mobile platforms.
My first reaction was less than excited. This seems a little concerning if you're trying to make a MMO of any kind.

I'm a little concerned about the lack of any experienced developers, but I'm very excited about the potential of the project. This is a VERY underutilized genre.

Also, looks like they completed a Russian kickstarter a couple months ago. So, 1. It's a Russian development team. And 2. Their initial campaign was at least successful. They got about 282k rubles (which actually only amounts to just under $5,000). https://boomstarter.ru/projects/pgf/project_dogmat

I wish them the best and hope it turns out but I'm not expecting this one to turn out well.  Lack of experience and under estimating the time and money needed for making any kind of MMO that has a chance of success are all working against them.

this looks really good and i will keep an eye on it. If there is one thing ive noticed is that russian know how to code and most of their games are really well optimized unlike the one and only modern mmo ive played (TSW)

If they want to sell it in the US, they need to just call it Project Dogma. Calling it Project Dogmat is just going to confuse people and lead to angry customers who thought they were getting some kind of pet simulator game.

You never know with these indie game studios, there is always a small chance that they will be successful.  It was a real stretch by the article writer to compare this with world of darkness though, nothing like it from what I read.

Their site seem to be infected with a virus btw.. just mentioning it. Alot of defensive programs and even fucking Watchguard routers block off the site entirely due to risk. Not sure wtf is going on with that :P

It's an isolated issue with your virus protection or PC. Anyone with half a brain will know that and mmorpg.com wouldn't have taken the time to do an interview/article on them without confirming the legitimacy of their site, etc. that claim is invalid. Plus you're the only person I've ever seen have this issue our of thousands of people who've visited the site.

It's not rocket science. My "brand new" account has nothing to do with anything. Many people will register on this site like myself in order to support this game and comment, just like I did. Thanks for the positive post :)

Anyone know if you need to create a separate account for the forums at http://forum.projectdogmat.com/ as opposed to their main page @ http://projectdogmat.com/en/ ? Or maybe it needs to be manually added? Thanks.

Sounds like an action-rpg. I'll pass. I want a sandbox Word of Darkness. A world where manipulating others is more lucrative than physicaly fighting them. A MMORPG where politics, diplomacy and you know, roleplay actualy matter.

Seriously... " our ideas are our own and we are not using any of their IP content or likenesses. " and then they talk about goth-punk world full of vampires, werewolves and ghosts, about Sabbath and Kindred... Do they really think nobody will read that and think "Word of Darkness" ??

malwarebytes does not like that web site for me either.

    So no...not isolated.

No idea why it is being blocked by malwarebytes, i do not not really care enough to take the time to find out either. Just saying something may be going on or just a bad host/isp/websites that has been reported or whatever.

I'm all for a different game, we certainly need some different genres, but, Vampire lore is...lame. Maybe CCP realised how fast people would grow bored of blood sucking parasites. Kudos for the efforts though.

It's currently separate databases. You'll need to create two accts (1 for each).

The only popular games I know of with vampires are the Elder Scroll series.  Have I missed some others?

What bothers me about all games in general is the ideas are just ideas on paper but never much effort put into those ideas inside the game.

Example the whole idea of Vampires. How much effort goes into them actually playing like a Vampire? Are they just simple models with fangs and the typical dark haired look of a Vampire?

What kind of mechanics go into their combat, are they as tough to kill or in case of You the player Vampire,is your ability to fight off injury and death as a Vampire should be or just plays like any other character in a game? I ask all this because my gut feeling is this will be nothing more than dark alleys, black haired characters with fangs but everything else plays like a normal game of any kind.

My final point is more on the title. What WOD could have been?No doubt in my mind what so ever,CCP imo is a second rate developer not capable of a triple A game quality.Point being these guys could not possibly do any worse.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
