Yep, lame joke is lame. But how could we pass that up? Today we're happy to reveal the engineer's elite specialization coming with Heart of Thorns: The Scrapper. Wielding a massive two-handed hammer, a bevy of awesome gyro bots, and a whole lot of pain to dish out... the Scrapper makes for an excellent tank-like take on the Engineer. Read on for more!

Yeah, I had to post a picture or the younger people wouldn't believe it, hardly believe it myself.
Anyways, sounds like a pretty fun specialization. Missed some kind of melee weapon for my engi.

Anyways, just as I mentioned, for melee they need to focus on mobility, and it seems thats what they're going for. Mobility with some additional blocks, and lightning usually can apply a number of conditions.. and I hope one of them is blind, as you'll need those too.
I'm still not sure how drones will work. Obviously if they're on all the time, providing constant buffs when not using their skills (or toolbelt skills) then its highly likely they'll be able to be targeted and killed, which doesn't bode well in PvP when many skills are AOE.
It does sound like one drone will be used for burning specifically, and one for condition removal. Both of these are necessary for engineers to stay competitive in DPS and survivability in PvP and PvE.
If the condition removal drone is a heal drone, count me in, I wouldn't want it to take up a separate space on my bar that a useful damaging ability kit like flamethrower would consume. As mentioned engis have no weapon swaps, or attunement changes, so every ability slot on your bar is important.
The elite specialization will grant stealth, and its toolbelt skill will detect stealth. I suppose if they are dead set on keeping mesmers with PU then its necessary to have a class that detects stealth easily.
This will actually work extremely well with the new melee spec, you're looking at a really strange hybrid class in the making.
Also what is clear is that gyros can be destroyed, but it wasn't said whether or not a self destruct is one of the options.
I know next week they'll talk about the ranger and the week after will likely be one more test before launch... so we won't have to wait much longer... but I hope these new abilities synergize well with the old traits as well. Some of the other classes don't.
