Wow. Let me try to keep this short. PUT UP OR SHUT UP! If you have any proof, take legal action, and STFU ! If not, STFU ! Either way STFU ! Stop trolling the boards already, I ran out of popcorn and the standard DS flamestorm is giving me a headache. Derek, this is directed at you! Stop blowing your mouth off on these boards because it won't help you in the slightest. If you have proof, go to the cops, financial board, lawyer, whatever, just stop being a freaking overblown windbag! By the way, your past actions are what have earned your ignoble reputation and general distain, and this rabble rousing is only deepening the stains on your name. That was a plea for sanity and reason, but I suspect that's as futile as singing at fish.

AArrrgh! You are all arseholes. Everyone is an idiot and a troll. Morons all of you!
What I am saying is that you are making assumptions without knowing the entire story. The journalist wrote the story based on information provided by unnamed sources. Irrespective of any information provided on those links, if the incidents mentioned in the story are real, and later proven to be true by unnamed sources, then all of the information provided by so called "sleuths" in those links, though coincidental, would be proven to be totally irrelevant. There is a lot of shady stuff going on, TOS have been changed, information denied or omitted and later proven true (Gardiner being CR's wife) etc. Like I said, you SC/CR supporters can keep defending the indefensible all you want, but this hasn't gone away, it isn't going to go away, and it only gets worse with time. If there was nothing to this, it would just go away. But its not doing that. It just keeps coming back and it will continue to linger because truth always prevails.
Exactly this. The subreddit is saying "All this stuff is untrue and here is irrefutable proof" but it's no real proof at all. It's so ironic that whenever critical articles like this come up people decry the state of journalism while supporting hack rebuttals.
Besides if there's anyone that has reason to be unobjective it's a bunch of hardcore fans who have hundreds, if not thousands invested in their game. You can bet they will defend their investments with whatever means necessary, even if those means turn out to be false.
I dont get it, nearly every mmorpg is a greed hungry game with no passion behind it and people make a big deal out of this yet defend every other mmorpg on the market.

Sounds pretty standard for the defenders of greed in the market among these boards. Gotta love how they constantly accuse you of trolling.
I'm getting more entertainment between this and Pantheon than I am in any MMO atm. The only way anything could be more awesome than watching two "games" that will never be what their creators claim, or even exist at all, crash and burn would be if Roberts and McQuaid came together to create the greatest failure the world has ever known, bringing along with them the largest army of fanatical zealots willing to place their hopes, dreams and money on clueless one trick pony, one hit wonder developers. Please, Baby Jesus, make this happen.

Feature Creep: The Video Game is being poorly managed and is bleeding money? NO WAI!
Come on folks, alarm bells should have gone off the instant they started selling ships that haven't even been made yet for insane amounts of cash. Anyone who bought into that is going to receive ZERO sympathy from me.
And you know what? The ultra-defensive posts from SC fanboys is only making me wish the allegations are true, I'd love to see this game crash and burn just to see these fanboys cry rivers.

For me the difference is risk. When a developer uses traditional investment they are constrained by contractual and statutory mechanisms; they are accountable to their investors; they are required to demonstrate a potential return on the investment, in detail. Their business plans must take into account repayment of loans or returns on investment. The risk of failure lies with the developer and the investors and this is enshrined in a legal framework. If there is mismanagement of funds, budget increases, programme extensions or any irregularity, then there is also legal recourse (often contractual, sometimes statutory). If the game is a wild success and they achieve huge profits, then everyone who shared the risk, also reaps the rewards. If the game is a miserable failure then everyone who took the risk also knowingly takes the hit.
With crowd-funding none of this applies. The developer takes no risk, takes none of the hit for failure, and reap all of the rewards for success without any initial outlay (which includes a contractual requirement to repay investment). There is no legal framework to protect funders, there is no legal recourse for any mismanagement or impropriety.
When you remove all risk, accountability, legal recourse for funders and monetary investment in a project as a developer; then you should be held to greater scrutiny under statute. Unfortunately this statute is not in place, which is certainly why I make a big deal out of all of these issues in crowd-funded projects.
With all the Zealot fanbois it would be fantastic to see them put in their place. I knew something was up with this game when ships were being sold at outrageous prices and all we got was a graphic tester hanger and P2W ships in a terrible lobby ship-shooting game.
They can't even give us factual information on anything about the game just what they plan to do. If they were transparent and showed what they are working on (with 261 employees) then I'd gladly admit I was wrong.
What angers me the most are the cash-cow fanatics on the forum that cry "CR can do no wrong, helmet, helmet, helmet" while forking 1,000s of dollars on the premise they will get an overpowered ship that will take months to afford in game.
If what CR says is true we get a revolutionary game that will change the industry(As touted by fans) if its all a well engineers premise to siphon money from a vunerable fanbase then we'll see the end of crowdfunding or at least harsh punishments for trying to screw over people that trusted you. Win/Win for me either way.
Here we go again with the impatient people expecting a triple A game over night which is attempting to do something that has never been done before. Definitely a small vocal minority who think if they can't have things their way, they would rather throw a tantrum on their blogs and ruin it for everyone else.
A small vocal minority? Pretty sure we're way passed that by now.
An AAA game overnight? It's been 3+ years of development and we're nowhere near the game CR's promised. Nowhere near any of the three games he promised. Nowhere near the gameplay on any of the three games he promised. It's going to take another 4-5 years with this pace.
I do believe it will eventually arrive though. It's not going to be what we expected though.

Certainly not if there is any truth to the reports and they only have $8m left...
So the next move will probably be to go to the publishers and try to get some investment. They will either not want to touch it with a barge-pole, or will insist on a locked down (and probably reduced) scope in order to get it out on the shelves.
Alternatively they may try and sell the assets so someone else can try and build a game out of them.

Seen both scenarios in the games industry before.
I agree. If they need a publisher I would imagine they would want to remove all obstacles first. You might see certain people gracefully stepping aside to spend more time with their families.
I can see that if this game fails to deliver whats being promised that Chris Roberts and the fanboys will blame Derek Smart, the "haters" and "dishonest journalists" for SC demise. Roberts now has a ready made scapegoat and that all the white knight zealots will believe this lie because believing that it was somehow Robert's fault and his fault alone will mean they were being being played all along.
If there's two things I know about fanboys its 1) they for some reason have connected the success or failure of a game to their own personal success or failure as a person and 2) they have a hard time distinguishing between the facts and their own made up "facts" that only exist in their heads and serve to reinforce whatever hopes and dreams they've placed on a game, doubly so if the person making the game is a "famous" developer that made their all time favourite game 10+ years ago...and triply so (it's a word real word, go with it) if said fanboy has hundreds, thousands or, my God, tens of thousands of dollars "invested" in SC.
Just waiting for the "theres a company at Steak!" line. All of this is very reminiscent of the fall of 38 Studios, with Chris Roberts playing the role of Curt Schilling.

The game will be released and it will be considered one of the greatest games of all time. And this very forums will be filled with haters who did not spend a dime in the game, claiming RSI and CIG did not provide what they promised and the game sucks ballz. If there is anything i have learned from this forums, people love to see a good game go down.
Boobs are LIFE, Boobs are LOVE, Boobs are JUSTICE, Boobs are mankind's HOPES and DREAMS. People who complain about boobs have lost their humanity.

Meh, I'll go ahead and say exactly NOT this. Essentially what we're saying is that since a journalist, who OBVIOUSLY has nothing to gain by writing a smoking gun article on one of the most hotly-debated topics of the decade, has nothing to gain from writing it. In addition to that, there are unnamed sources used. If these types of things were going on in a workplace, it would be an HR nightmare, there would be court cases, etc. All of which have not materialized.....yet. There are 261 people working there. If the workplace is so toxic and people who are familiar with the industry and the stresses it produces are leaving, then it's LOGICAL to think that the 261 other people are feeling similar. If there are harassing conversations being had, HR would be brought in.
Let's remember, THERE ARE 261 PEOPLE WORKING AT CIG!!! So let some current employees comment on the environment. We already saw the Glassdoor reviews and we saw, until recently, that these were mostly positive. Now, since all the hoopla, SURPRISE!!! Everything new is negative.
With regards to defending the indefensible by @LacedOpium I actually giggle a little. Your proof is bulletproof, any other proof is here say. I forgot that this "journalist" went out and did in-depth research, even visiting CIG. Oh wait!! No! Didn't happen, then information just fell into their lap, over email. Wow, what could possibly be shady by that. The FACT is that these people you call so-called information sleuths ACTUALLY did more fact-finding that the journalist in question. THAT is a fact. I'm sorry if you've got the word fact mixed up, but I've provided a dictionary definition for you below for reference. You'll notice the part about indisputably. The information HAS been disputed so until we get some first-party information from multiple sources, it's not happening. As it stands right now, ZERO CIG employees have come forward to talk about current work environments. All just anonymous people who could be you for all we know.
Well... looks like this may have hit home with RSI.... I am not sure if SC was started to be a scam or not but I feel a bit scammed... I have spent over $500 in this came in ships and sub for a year and I really dont have much to show from it. What Chris needs to think about is getting content out to the supporter and stop making new ships to sell that you cant use. That is what is pissing peeps off. I mean my toon still dose not have any hair nor can I customize ti... WTF but yet their still pumping out new ships.....
It actually makes me a little physically sick to think about how much money was/is at Chris Roberts' fingers, and how truly little there is to show for it. Imagine what a team like Cd Projeckt Red could do with over 80 Million dollars... It is quite sickening.
