In the EU a lot of people did not have the ability to create new characters day 1-2 of the launch. If you had one and could come on to the servers you instead faced serverlag(or well.. it was more if a trafficjam... but you get the idea) for abilties and actions of up to a few seconds. In a action/skill shot based game.. that is not good.
Seems to have cleared up a lot now and the extra server helps take the pressure off. But some nice in-game swag would go a long way to smooth ruffeled feathers... espec ially if you need to log in to claim it =P

A fair comment imo.
They could have helped themselves, imo, by being more pro-active with their communication on day 1, putting a positive spin on things as well (we have proved massively popular etc.)
And they could have had pre-registrations beforehand to give them the option of launching over more than one day - at some point starting to hand out a day 2 date etc. They could still do this.
And they do have a problem. Do they spend extra millions adding capacity only to see interest evaporate next week? How far do they go?

Good question. Do you add capacity today knowing there will be an inevitably fall-off tomorrow? I think this: If you are relaunching as a F2P you have to, HAVE TO, ensure everyone who wants to try your game, gets to try it, in a reasonable time (minutes, not days).
You're right, this launch is even worse than the official launch one year ago. Well I guess not everybody can be FFXIV
Is this a joke, were you there for FFXIV ARR launch?
Yeah, it went so smoothly they decided to give everyone a free week to celebrate and i guess them halting digital sales was because they were getting too much money..
Yeah..
ARR's launch was a mess and the servers were a mess, people were getting bounced around lobby server errors and other fun stuff of that kind.
They did learn, mostly i believe to the nature of their patch-cycle and Heavensward did launch rather smoothly.
But, please, don't use ARR as a shining example for a launch of any kind.
What? This is "One of the worst"? I played Rift at launch - Unable to even login for a week, and that was when it was paid. FFXIV:ARR? They literally had to stop digital sales. Literally. And while Destiny "Isn't an MMO" it easily had a much worse launch with people unable to even login to the game due to various zoo errors for MONTHS. Meanwhile, Wildstar I've been able to login after finishing the download today, and minus a slight hiccup for about 10 minutes trying to enter the Exile starter zone (After Arkship), I've had no trouble playing. Your experience is not everyone's, and if I had to pick a launch that contends for "worst" it would be FFXIV:ARR because they literally had to stop sales to compensate for the massive demand.

So in conclusion, Ws has been horrible for you? Perhaps the worst?
wildstar is NOT the worst not even close....Vanguard was pretty bad....Age of conan was a bad launch, FFXIV was horrid at release.....I could list maybe 5-6 more if I had too......So you have issues getting in....you think they did it on purpose? Your OP sounds like my 7 year old having a little tangent....does it suck you can't get in? yep game is pretty fun really.....is it the end of the world? no. I am more than sure that if this is a BIG issue (meaning your not the only one ) then pretty sure they are working on it.......if you are the only one (which I doubt but hey you could have computer issue)sorry sucks to be you.
Its been pretty good for me, I've been online all the time without any kind of lag. Not counting maintenance times (which they do announce so I don't really care)
I remember horrible launches for SWG, WoW, FFXIV, Lotro, WAR, all in varying degrees and all lasting about 1 to 3 weeks tops. So this is par for the course. Wildstar is still a great game and will eventually get past this hurdle.
Hopefully they will fix stuff quickly but you know what they say about first impressions. Til then back to a few other MMO's.

I agree AO was a pretty horrific launch, there probably should be some reward for the trauma As to worse ever that's a pretty vague and subjective metric isn't it OP? WS at least stayed launched not all MMO/MOBA launches can say the same. I would say IC beats WC pretty easy. Are we limiting it to those that launched and survived or just luanched?
Obviously you were not around for the launch of Ao then?
Or Vanguard?
Does this mean something?
Is this like a badge of honor?
"Hey, I was around for a crappy launch, and I'm around for another crappy launch...Hear me roar!"
It means they answered the question you ask in your title.
What is your post suppose to mean?
May want to go back and see who created the post. And then compare the two names.
Again, is saying you were there for a bad launch in 2001 a badge of honor?
Does this give some kind of mmo credibility?
You should probably go back and re-read the OP's question and the posters answer to that question. Not sure where your getting the badge of honor crap.
It is by far not the worst launch by any means. The game being "unplayable" isn't true either. For the first day maybe, then the patches came out for lag and character creation and at this point the only real hurdle is the login queues which every single MMO launch ever has had. Every single time an MMO launches with queues or lag people instantly start waving around the WORST LAUNCH EVER card, it's getting pretty bad with people doing this every single time.
Look at some of the launches that were by far worse. FFXIV when ARR came out, they had no queue system and you couldn't make characters on any servers that had too many people on them. Basically you had to sit there and spam start exit out, spam start exit out, over and over until eventually you got in or you gave up after 4 hours. Vanguard had game breaking bugs, was optimized so bad that nobody could run it, and was in a horrid state upon launch. I don't really feel like going through any more since it's pretty much the same every time, but it's really not a horrible launch.
Queues are irritating yes, lag is irritating yes, but in no way is it unplayable. I made a character the first night, played it quite a bit so far and right now am waiting in a queue to play again. The lag is gone for me.

Gonna leave this here. 8 out of 15 streamers last night sitting there playing the character select mini-game. Does this constitute being playable? May want to take off the rose coloured glasses.

... are stuck at the login screen right now.
If more than 50% of the playerbase are experiencing this issue, including the very people who are trying to promote the game,
why don't Carbine just take the servers down for maintenance? Oh ya,
they did that about 30 times and the game still says no thank-you.
It also went from getting 5k views when it went live to just over 1k on a Saturday..Obviously has nothing to do with the server woes that have been going on for 5 days.

I wouldn't consider that bad at all that they had to halt sales to compensate for demand. In fact, I'd call that kinda good.

This isn't a signature, you just think it is.
Wildstar went on to a F2P patch that hasn't worked properly since it went live 6 days ago.
Looks like being the "f2p that no one can play" in a sea of F2P games that work is not working out for them.

I think hopefully they will fix it may be more appropriate. We are very much past quickly.
