With emphasis on non 'pure' subscription based games. The reason for the question is to gauge how many support the genre. There are many discussions about why or why not some games fail. There also point/counter-point arguments about profit. I think it would be interesting to know a purely financial piece of it. There are no absolute numbers and I'm sure there are things missing in the options. I'm just trying to get a general sense. Just work with it, and post comments for what I messed up. Please no flaming others.... Me fine, but some people get upset and that's not the goal. Support means with coin. The poll is anonymous.

I spend approx. $100/year on my gaming budget not including hardware

All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.

I get banned in the forums for games I love, so lets see if I do better in the forums for games I hate.

I enjoy the serenity of not caring what your opinion is.

I don't hate much, but I hate Apple© with a passion. If Steve Jobs was alive, I would punch him in the face.

I have no qualms about paying for games I actively play. I'm of the mind to show my appreciation for time well spent.

I even occasionally give some money to developers for games that I am not going to play, but that I think did a great job and should be recognized.

Before responding, do I understand correctly.  Cash shop only, no sub option type of games?
yea.  That's my intent.   Gauging the cash shop/microtransaction support.  If the subscription is optional, then it would be included.

Hmm.. never mind then. I mostly support F2P games via sub.

Depends on the game. I don't mind dropping money for a CE for an f2p game I like. I figure f2p means "free trial." If I enjoy the game and play regularly, I will sub if it's an option. Or buy "premium membership" or whatever. (Skyforge, Rift, etc.) In a game like War Thunder, I pay for premium membership and once in a while drop a $100 or so on golden eagles.

For ESO, I would just sub, if I play. Not much in the cash shop I want to buy except xp scrolls.

But I won't play games with invasive cash shops always looking for microtransactions.

I use a sub and all the games I'm interested in have gone the F2P route so I picked other.  Usually a few months after they go F2P I lose interest :(

I played SWTOR but subbed. I used the CS a little but mostly just from the sub. I played GW2 and used the CS somewhat, assuming there was something I really wanted, which mostly, there wasn't. You need a better option for Hybrids. THat is my preference. If there is a sub I'll sub, But I won't play games where the CS has more value that the sub (Arche Age)

Sometimes.  It depends some on how long I've played the game and how much I like it.  It also depends on what's available to buy.  If a game makes it so that you can get useful stuff for $10-$20/month, without making it so that someone spending that much is at a huge disadvantage to someone who pays $100/month, I'll probably pay some if I like the game.

    - i support the games i play buy purchasing the game and purchasing future content (expansions like draenor or Heart of thorns, or DLCs like the ones for Dragon Age and the Witcher).

    - When it comes to Free to play games i used to support the ones i like (Warframe and Marvel Heroes) but im not playing them at the moment. I didnt pay regularly either, On warframe only when i got 50%+ log in discounts, and on MH bought the heroes and companions i wanted.

Seeing how terrible the business models in the gaming industry are becoming by milking everyone even on paid games (Destiny is adding Microtransactions soon too...) i close my wallet more and more. And F2P just get worse by the minute. And considering how F2P mmos are shutting down so quickly lately, i dont waste my money on F2P games anymore. Im not taking risks with mmos.

To avoid rehashing the argument/conversation that is going on in about 15 concurrent threads, I will just leave it at: "I would prefer to pay a sub."

I definitely support the games I play. I believe if I am spending time playing and enjoying the game then the game deserves my money.

    "support" commercial products? Nah ....

If a buy games, it is a purchase decision, not charity, investment, or to "support" anything.

    I went from 500 dollars a month to 50... I found help!!!

I only pay for games that have a monthly sub and a box price, o yeah there are none that fit that lol. So yeah I only pay for games that have a box price, and nothing after that, but maybe a DLC or expansion. I dont support the free to play on human emotions, to get them to spend money, but its free business model. I also don't support alcohol advertisement, drug dealers hanging around schools, or the selling of antibiotics to people who really dont need them, but it makes money so what ever.  But hey that is filthy capitalism  at its best. I also dont support making some one 100000 times richer than the average American, just because they sing well, play a game well, or make a good mmo.

P2p or sub was more communist, where every one was equal, and shared the stuff based on in game play, was only a matter of time before the capitalist way came in and ruined it, with its free 2 play lies, and the mastery of human emotion, tailoring the cash shops and ads to maximize people spending.

Sub usually means $180 a year to the developers.  They should be happy with that and give the player everything the game has to offer.  If they want to sell cosmetics, I'm cool with that.
Nope they want 180 a year, + they want the people who just randomly buy garbage for 10000+, plus they want to charge you for a expansion, plus DLC, plus if you want to compete with the people spending 10000, they want you to buy more, to keep up with the Jones. After all that, they are gonna always make sure that you are well aware, that there is a cash shop to spend your money at.

O yeah, its ok, because it costs 100 million in pure profit to keep a game running YOU REMEMBER THAT!!!!!. DEVS GOTTA EAT WITH THAT. I really hate big business, and the people who support it, if you couldnt tell haha;)

Other.  If it's fun and inexpensive, I'll drop a few bucks gladly.

If its f2p, I usually level to cap and go from there. Thanks to WoW token, I dont have to give blizzard anymore money, someone else can do it for me when I feel like playing.

My hard and fast rule that I've never broken is that I'll never spend any money at all in a cash shop for a game.

I'm happy to pay a box price for a game.
I'm happy to pay a subscription for a game.
I'm happy to pay for expansions

Like others have said, I wouldn't call this "supporting" a game. I'm paying for a product, and as such, I research each product before purchase and judge whether it is worth the price. If it is, I'll buy, if it isn't, I'll leave it.

There was a choice for me in the poll, and I always pay a sub if its available, otherwise I don't play.
