Brilliant! So they should be on schedule for the relase of the FPS in september. Then I might actaully be tempted to get one of those packs to test it out. Then again, proably not...

Honestly if you are on the fence and not sure if it'll be worth backing I would hold off until AC 2.0 comes out. Even if the FPS module does hit this month I can only imagine it will have bugs and issues at first. I mean hell, it's still an Alpha.

If you want to give it a play and mess around with the game they gave out a free week code (good till Sept 14th) at DragonCon.

    Code is: DRAGONCON2015

Seems Derek Smart's defamation crusade to bring down Star Citizen is a miserable failure for him and is back firing because CIG just hit the 90 mil mark for funding and gained 7k plus more citizens in just a couple of weeks.  At this rate with Derek's help CIG will hit the 100mil mark before the end of the year.

I think I'll help...I've had my eye on the Origin 325a for some time now...this sounds like a great time to add it to my fleet.  :p

Actually the number of SC citizens is just the number of forum accounts (unless that has changed, but that was the last word from CIG), not the number of backers (also keep in mind that CIG have given out a lot of Free week codes so that could bring in a number of non backer accounts).  I would expect that the real number of backers is somewhere in between the UEE fleet number and the citizen number.

You DO know that this is a flyable ship in Arena Commander, do you not ? And has been for a long time.

May I recommend the ship pipeline thread as a reference here on mmorpg.com ?

Great, they have raised a total TO DATE of 90 million. That isn't how much they actually have on hand.

FYI there are inside reports that they have less than 8million out of the 90 million raised. If that holds to be true, what do you think the future of this game will be?

You mean, there are RUMOURS that they have less than 8 million, with no concrete evidence.

And this could be 8 million liquid capital, with the so far unused rest  having been invested somewhere safe (e.g. fixed-term deposit account) to combat inflation losses, until it is needed to pay the bills.

And of course they do not have 90 million anymore. They had to pay the bills since 2012.
    From 5 employees in 2012 to 255ish  in 2015.

It's a hypothetical so cast aside whether you believe it to be true or not and give it a shot.

    Scenario 1:

Ask existing backers to voluntarily increase their pledge

    Scenario 2:

    Go ask a bank

    Scenario 3:

    Get a silent investor

    Scenario 4:

    Bring in a publisher.

    Scenario 5:

Big push for new backers (marketing, TV ads etc.)

    Scenario 6:

    Management/Employee buy-in

I am sure there are other options, those are just the obvious ones.

And then, with the extra money that was needed:

    Finish the game development

even if the 8mil rumor is true (and it very well could be).  you don't think they have any money from other investors?  they are already making mice and keyboards and joysticks with the brand name on them.

Everyone seems to be more concerned about rumors and behind the scenes stuff and less about how good the game looks and how great it will be. I wish I could afford a PC that would play this game but I don't. I have to sit on the sidelines and watch. That said I have no doubts about the game though and I don't give a rats butt about how they get the money to make it. Gaming companies have scammed so many people over the years and gave uscrap in return. SC is not only redefining gaming, its boosting profits on hardware, peripherals and everything in between. Innovation is not made in a day nor is it perfect out of the gate. Everquest can attest t that. When SC is released it will blow people away, period and you don't even need to throw money at it until its released. Everyone complains about the whales, why? They funded a game you can enjoy for a pittance of what they spent. Thats a win-win anyway you look at it. Everyone is so concerned about Whales having an unfair advantage. Whales, this and P2W that. There are alot of guilds who do not require anyone to spend much money to join them and some are very large. So keep worrying about stuff that doesn't even matter. Worry, worry worry. It's a game...that will be fun...and look crazy good...nuff said.

Inside speculation from disgruntled former employee's and bad journalists not exactly something  I am going to take to heart.

You know, I don't even like the genre of game, it holds exactly zero interest for me, but I may back this simply because Derek Smart and his merry pack of morons are so against it.  I'll just give my account to someone that does like the game.

If you want a new idea, go read an old book.

In order to be insulted, I must first value your opinion.

I kinda feel sorry for Chris Roberts making this game.

He started off asking for a small amount of money to make a game he was really passionate about and it exploded, more and more money flooded in and more and more pressure was put on him to deliver something incredible.  He could of just made the cheap ass game he intended and banked the 60+million as profits (kinda like Minecraft) but he wanted to actually make proper use of that money and make a huge game with all the money pushed into it.  This is almost unheard of because most just want to keep as much of the money as possible.

Keep in mind the guy was a millionaire long before this project started, he has had a long and successful career before this so it's not like a poor game dev struggling for money used this to get rich.

At this point I think his game is such a behemoth and he has taken in so much money that he is under immense pressure to deliver "the greatest game ever made" or something and that's why he keeps adding shit and extending the date until it gets released.

Any other developer / publisher would not of paid for such an incredible cast ever, they would of taken lower quality people to make more profits so this speaks of what the guy is trying to achieve.  It's not about money, it's about pride in the project.

I would hate to be in his shoes honestly and I think I would possibly just bail on the project right now, take the money and juts walk away.  He is under no legal pressure to finish the project, all the money was donated.

I don't think he will of course because his pride is caught up in this now, the amount of pressure the guy is under every day is insane.  This is one of the problems with kickstarters, you don't have publishers that force them to get the game out asap, or is that a positive?  I guess it depends who you talk to.

you´re mostly correct except for the "keeps adding features" part. if you look at the stretch goals, there weren´t any features added since 2014

a new ship role here and there and hangar flair reward during 2014 for every backer was not feature creep. No new features were announced in 2015. I have no effing idea how that stupid rumor even came in to existence.
Besides, they didn´t just "think up" funny new goals, the stuff was in CR´s vision all the time and stretch goals were revealed to backers with every new million.

It´s funny that feature creep argument is mostly used on the FPS aspect of the game - fun fact, that feature stretch goal was reached during the ORIGINAL campaign in 2012.
So I´m really sorry but the feature creep talk is just false propaganda by a handful of detractors.

I tend to think the stretch goals were things he wanted in his original game vision.  why else would he introduce them as stretch goals?  why feel sorry for him?  he is doing what he loves to do and now he has a few new game studios,  a motion capture studio,  a sound studio,  and im sure many more toys he can play with and continue to do what he loves to do for a very long time after he finishes working on star citizen.  if anything he should feel sorry for those of us that aren't living our dream.
