Free Mobile MMORPG List and MMO Games - MMORPG.com

Destiny was updated earlier today with a significant patch that brings, among many other things, microtransactions into the game. Players will be able to meet Tess Everis to grab hold of some pretty cool emotes that are only available for a new in-game currency, Silver, that can be purchased through both the XBox Games Store or the Playstation Store.

If you charge for it, they will pay.

Not as low as paying for a second action bar. (Way to go SWToR)

Is it just me or is the ill will they will get from being greedy little shits cost them more money than they earn in the long run from this stunt.

You'd be naive to think they won't be making a ton of money.

I don't understand why people are getting so upset about this, they are selling purely cosmetic items that no-one has any obligation to buy and in return they are providing live events throughout the next year with no additional cost. It's no different to other games that sell cosmetic armor or character skins, its just an option to give some money to support the game if you enjoy playing and want to give more back.

Probably because they purchased the game at full price and feel that this should entitle them to the full game. Activision is not a starving artist that needs support. But your mentality shows that apparently they can get away with it. This is not an insult, but I'm going to venture to say you're in your mid 20s or younger whom have possibly been conditioned to accept these practices. I, on the other hand feel rather swindled when the full price upfront does not net me the full game.

    Pretty much.

    In War - Victory.
    In Peace - Vigilance.
    In Death - Sacrifice.

SWToR is FREE to play. so its not the same. But its like in wow, where you can pay 20$ for a mount. Its the same thing. No one is telling you yo buy this.

And who is going to pay for the immense server infrastructure upkeep and bandwith costs? Santa Claus? If you like it or not. Destiny has pretty much the same server infrastructure and bandwith usage as any other MMO out there, who either charge monthly fees or have micro transactions to pay for the costs. They basically adopting GW2 and TSW's business model of Buy to play model + micro transactions and a DLC every 4-6 months or so. And as long as it's cosmetic stuff, I have no problem with it. Now... if they would start selling downright Pay 2 Win stuff, then it would become a different matter. Then my support for such game would instantly end I will walk away.

Hey, you seem to forget that back then when you bought a game at full price, that was it. No extra content. Perhaps a patch or two to fix the worst bugs. Instead they would give you Game II at full price a year or two later, and you would happily pay for that.

Would I like them to just release this stuff in payed expansion packs or DLC, sure, but you know what? You would just be grumpy about having to pay for DLC instead.

Some people have a hard time accepting that the current way of running games, especially those semi MMO style ones, or just much higher then the old style B2P games, and you have to pay the price somehow for that.

B2P and MMO style is a lie, they NEED you to keep paying.

Here we go again - lets complain about how companies that we are not a part of make money, yeah like outsiders should have any say so in the matter..... A game dev can do whatever the hell they want with THEIR game - including how they are going to make money off it. Players get to decide if they want to buy or not, play or not. That's it. Don't like it - don't buy it, don't play it.
Agreed - although I do wonder whether this is an Activision, a Bungie or a mutual push? (I suspect it is more Activision than Bungie.) The emotes are trivial so I suspect their introduction is as much about adding the ability to have "micro-transactions" going forward. (xp boosts perhaps). Regarding the covering server costs comment companies do that by estimating the cost - assume $10M for some period just as an example; estimate their DLC sales - lets say they went with 5M - and then adding a cost to the DLC - in this case $2. And if they stick to building the cost into the DLC then anything they make will be a bonus. (And what is available should remain trivial).

I deleted it, wont buy anything from bungie ever again.

Looks like it is a place where game developers hate other game developers, and not gamers discussing games and game features :)

I'll just say that there is a difference between not agreeing and telling a company what to do. And to others that replied to me, it's Activision. They absorb these costs in other ways. They don't need microtrans to keep the servers on. They've made a choice to do it because the gaming economy has told them they can and make additional revenue. I'm simply stating that I don't agree with this practice.

SWTOR's f2p model is sh*t but i finished 2 storylines completely with f2p model during x3 xp weekends.(before Cartel and Revan expansions) didn't take me long and didn't pay a cent so yea....it's still better than Destiny. there is a good reason Destiny is not released on PC, not yet anyway. at least EA had IP power to force their shi**y f2p model. also EA>Activision overall. activision has published almost nothing interesting in recent years.

    my top MMOs: UO,DAOC,WoW,GW2

most of my posts are just my opinions they are not facts,it is the same for you too.

I dunno how well this will work for Destiny since on console.. now if we were talking PC they would make bank.. but consoles only?... can't say I'd bet on them making what they are hoping.. but then again... these are console players we are talking about.

Played: UO, LotR, WoW, SWG, DDO, AoC, EVE, Warhammer, TF2, EQ2, SWTOR, TSW, CSS, KF, L4D, AoW, WoT

Playing: The Secret World until Citadel of Sorcery goes into Alpha testing.

Tired of: Linear quest games, dailies, and dumbed down games

    Anticipating:Citadel of Sorcery
