Take it slowly, World of warcraft gives you the most basic (but full) experience so you should probably start there.

They say an old dog doesn't learn new tricks. But those are dogs, and we are men :)

I've always felt gaming is ideal for someone retired. You need to keep track of many things happening on the screen beside your skills and following chat. Keeps you sharp.  Not 70 yet but I hope to be gaming even beyond 70 if I make it that far!

Sure, you can start with World of Warcraft, but I would also add GW2. It is free to try. No upfront costs. If it doesn't suit you then no harm or foul.

one of my uncles just hit 80 and he loves playing games, in fact he got me into computer gaming around 25 something odd years ago with the wing Commander series.

Its the best age ? You can play all day if you want, since you no longer have to work.

I'll be playing some sort of game until I'm dead or senile.  Hopefully both hold off for a while.  Like a couple of others have mentioned, I'd go with WoW.  It's a good gateway game into the MMO world.

I self identify as a monkey.

I am 40 myself, and I played games since I could get my hands on them, so I recon if I make it to 70, I will still be playing. It's never too late, I am sure you'll have lots of fun!

Never cease to amaze me in how people of all ages can comfortably entertain themselves in MMOs.
I remember hopping on vent the first time (15 or younger) and hearing adults with kids in the background just screaming away and the parent's just chatting to us still LOL, amazing experience.

The 440+ posts were the tip off for me that something was up with this thread.

    Pardon any spelling errors
Konfess your cyns and some maybe forgiven
Boy: Why can't I talk to Him?
Mom: We don't talk to Priests.
As if it could exist, without being payed for.
F2P means you get what you paid for. Pay nothing, get nothing.
    Even telemarketers wouldn't think that.
It costs money to play.  Therefore P2W.

Still at the tender age of 52, so i am far too young to be giving up on MMO's just yet, personally i blame television, if there was anything on it worth watching i wouldn't spend so much time playing MMO's!

If you're just getting into the MMO scene OP, I'd suggest trying F2P games first to get your feet wet and see what kinds of things you might be comfortable playing with since there's so many. Then you can spend money on ones in that genre that you like.

No it isn't. Every retired person I've met in an MMO has been while playing EVE online. The average age there is higher than other options, but my best guess at why we get old fogeys such as yourself is that EVE is a game you play with your brain rather than your reflexes and the ability to make friends and work with others will do you well in EVE. Also patience. Patience is key in that game, so us old folk have the advantage there over children. Just stay away from large alliances like Goons and TEST (if they still exist) to avoid most of the casual racism in corp and alliance channels.
