I played at launch for quite a while.
Got a Thief and Mesmer both to 80.
End game.. there was no end game so the game got boring quick, for me anyway.
HoT released and I figured I'd give it a shot.
The expansion seems very solid and could be a lot of fun.
I just can't get over how it feels like such a Single Player Game.
I'm on Darkhaven Server and I joined a pretty good sized Guild called SoC.
Even being in the guild it still just doesn't feel very social. When your outside the main cities you don't see many people.
You can do almost everything in the game solo, so there is no real need for other players.
I've tried to play regularly at different times of the day but it seems to be the same.
Just because I'm a gamer doesn't mean I drive a Honda.

The one current problem with HoT is maps with not enough people for some of the events. Anet claimed there was an issue with megaserver tech. Not sure if that has been resolved but hate going to some of these events with hardly anyone around.
At least half of GW2's content requires large groups. So you are only playing half of the game.
I never did play the expansion though.

It is possible to play 1-80 on your own without any issues. When you hit 80, it can still be a solo experience. I see many people running dungeons (in random groups) without ever talking to others. It is a single player experience for them as much as any single player RPG.
That said, it is at it's essence a very team oriented game. More so than most MMOs I have played. The combat is designed with team work in mind, especially in the expansion.
Perhaps the guild you joined is too big? I've had a small guild of around 5, it has never felt non-social for me. I think in smaller guilds, you are much more likely to directly contribute and feel you have an effect on the community. Huge guilds are nice as they always have people online. But if you are online along with 50 people in your guild that you don't really know, it beats the whole purpose of guild for me.
And yet you are still talking about it!

You could substitute "players" for npc's in the world and still get the same experience because none of the player interdependency is meaningful.

Are you sure the build is only the skills?
I don't know what the "one dungeon" comment means.

Because if you replace Bob the healer for Joe the healer it makes such a difference...
In fact in Guild Wars 1, where healing class was a thing, once you had AI bots with decent builds, they were better healers than the average player.
