What's the deal with this? It seems like lately, every time I come to check on the forums, it's multiple Pantheon threads....
I know the game isn't out yet, so I've not bothered to look in to it very much. I finally decided to right now and I'm confused.
The most I could find is a pretty crappy screenshot showing in-game environment that has NO TEXTURES yet. Like, seriously... just some character models standing around and a wire-frame like environment with little more than Tetris blocks comprising the land. Not even color! Just white blocks!

So, my confusion is why are so many people talking about this game as if it's been released? or Beta, even? So far as I can tell, it's more of the same old talk. "Our game will be the end-all be-all of MMOs. Our game is going to bring back the old days of MMORPG. Our game is gonna be awesome. Our game is gonna .... " etc. More dev talk to build hype.
Why does this still work?
For the record, what I read about the game sounds great and all. I would love such a game to come to fruition.
However, I've learned after multiple "fool me once, fool me twice, fool me a thousand times" failures that talk is cheap and not to spend any time, money, or emotion for games that are just on the drawing board.
Am I missing something?

Makes a lot more sense now.... the hype.
But I also know of another game being developed by a veteran(successful?) game developer, hoping to cash in on his old project popularity. It's called Star Citizen, and it's ambitious as hell, with very little to show for it's ambitious goals other than "Remember me? I made that one game you liked over a decade ago. Well, I'm gonna try to reform the whole genre with this next game I'm gonna make. It will be epic."
If either games actually launch in a completed-like fashion, I will be blown away.
I will buy them both for sure. No question, hands down, I'll be all about them. But that's a big IF on both sides.
So, in summary: Brad made EQ. Disappeared off the grid when his next game tanked. Now he's back trying to do it again under a new title. Everyone can't stop talking about it. By the time the game is actually playable, people won't remember what Pantheon is.
Yep. Sounds familiar.
I do like to see diversity in topics/games but only if games warrant some kind of discussion.Yeah i know a game i might think is total crap someone else will defend as being great,i often wonder though if there is any criteria used by some people or they simply see their favorite streamer playing something or their GF or BF is playing something ,idk sometimes i see a lot of real bad games being talked about.
It seems the current acceptance rate garners nothing more than promises now a days,at one time we wanted to see something concrete. It is funny too because after seeing thousands of complete junk games come out we still see people clinging too promises.
As to Pantheon?I am definitely not sold but i think it warrants at least some topic discussion, more so than well 90% of the crap i see out there.I was in Twitch yesterday and what;s his name, the famous Brit guy, anyhow he was in gaming talk shows talking about 50+ games,i was like why is he bothering to talk about so many complete trash games,i highly doubt he wants to waste his time to make fun of them. Then i thought, this guy makes a ton of money from advertising/reviews he is likely sneaking in a lot of advertising over various games.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
I am following a lot of projects made by old school people, because they just happen to like the same features that I like in games. I really loved only 2 mmos, UO and EQ. I liked AC, DAoC and SWG. And everything else was just stuff I merely touched for more than 2 months.
So yea, I am hyped for Pantheon and Chronicles of Elyria which I consider mostly inspired from EQ and UO.

Kyleran: "Now there's the real trick, learning to accept and enjoy a game for what it offers rather than pass on what might be a great playing experience because it lacks a few features you prefer."
John Henry Newman: "A man would do nothing if he waited until he could do it so well that no one could find fault."
FreddyNoNose: "A good game needs no defense; a bad game has no defense." "Easily digested content is just as easily forgotten."
LacedOpium: "So the question that begs to be asked is, if you are not interested in the game mechanics that define the MMORPG genre, then why are you playing an MMORPG?"
Cheers~
