The latest issue of PC Gamer magazine has hit the stands with none other than Mark Hamill gracing the cover in his Star Citizen role of Lt. Commander Steve 'Old Man' Colton. The PC Gamer team has posted a great video showing the motion capture that Hamill underwent for his role. In addition, Hamill speaks to his role in the game, in Star Wars and much more. It's a fantastic fifteen minute look at a beloved star of movies and games.

Roberts has always been jealous of the whole Star Wars thing. He wanted to be the next Lucas with his Wing Commander movie, and it was a total failure. Now he's wasting money hiring old actors from the original Star Wars movie to be in his game. So much time and money wasted on this nonsense and so little progress on the game. Does he even know he's making a game and not a movie at this point? Can't wait for Alpha 5.0 in 2019.

You do know that Mark Hamill was staring in Wing Commander 3 and 4, do you not ? Same for John Rhys-Davies. Chris Roberts did hire them because they are his buddies since 1994. Have fun

Mark Hamill is known more to many for his voice acting than movies. The cost? Well that depends on if they want known great talent or not. Mark's voice acting for video games and animation is among the best in the industry. Fun watch. I'd lean heavily toward Chris simply being a huge fan of sci-fi genre (sort of painfully obvious). Pretty sure he isn't jealous of Star Wars seeing he was 9 when it came out.

    You stay sassy!

Dude! You don't know what you talking about!

Like another poster said. Both Mark Hamill and John-Rhys Davies were major voice actors in Wing Commander 3 and 4!

The last 20 years or so, Mark Hamill ha done mostly voice acting for animation and games.

He was highly praised for doing the Joker in DC games, like DC Universe Online.

It was not only voice acting.

Wing Commander 3 and 4 had real movie scenes .. and lots of it. Not animated avatars.

    Have fun

True! Man! I miss those two games. I tried running through that GOG or something it's called, but it just doesn't run anymore on todays systems hehe.

As someone mostly interested in Squadron 42, I absolutely LOVE the fact that they got Gary Oldman, Mark Hamill, etc...

It may suck, but this is exactly what I was looking for when I pledged.

Exactly! Me too!  I only pledged 50 bucks. No regrets. I just patiently wait. Got plenty of other games to play in meantime.

Is the fact that this is a link to a PCGamer video a sign of things to come?

I think he actually wanted to be IN a Star Wars movie (prolly as a Jedi) but I think his appearance and fitness level won't allow it (like most Star Wars fans) :P

You'd think that all that work would have prepped Roberts for something better than his direction of Wing Commander: The Movie.   Word I got was that Roberts spent almost all his time shooting the cutscenes for WC3&4, and the games themselves were mostly done by other Origin folks.  So if that's what you liked best about those games......

Though if I could get Hamill and Rhys-Davies as voice actors in a game, I'd do it in a New York minute.  No complaints there.

If you are holding out for the perfect game, the only game you play will be the waiting one.

It was one of the stretch goals during Kickstarter, you know ?

    >>>Squadron 42 will feature celebrity voice-acting including at least one favorite from Wing Commander >>>

    >>>Professional motion capture for the Squadron 42 cutscenes.>>>

CIG is doing exactly what they promised to do during the crowdfunding campaign.

Guess that would depend on how much they spent on the mocap, wouldn't it?  On a 60+ day shoot, I could see them spending close to a half mil just on studio rental.   Not including the many other expenses.  I don't recall all the stretch goals, but that one vaguely seemed like a +$500,000 level?   Yes?

They were at an industry leading mocap studio.  Advantage -- it should be done real well.  (Down to the blood flow!)  Disadvantage --  more expensive than most.   Profligate?  Who knows.   History says profligate is more likely.

Again ... this (another) stretch goal

    >>>>mocap studio to improve the quality of Star Citizen and Squadron 42’s cutscenes.>>>>

    and furthermore this stretch goal

    >>>Facial Capture System. We’ve researched a technology that uses a series of cameras to capture real heads and import them into the game. This will let the team more easily create a variety of realistic characters. In addition, the technology is mobile enough to allow us to take it on the road and capture select fans during special events! You can learn more about this technology at Infinite-Realities.>>>>

from the later crowdfunding campaign  (with 1 M$ steps).

    1) Create idea for game and sell it as the biggest thing since sliced bread.
    2) Sell pictures of ships to get money from backers.
    3) Keep adding stretch goals thus delaying delivering the original idea.
    4) Have shills keep posting that the delays were because of stretch goals, code for put the blame for the delay on the same people giving them money.
    5) Act all high and mighty when backers start asking about the game...how dare they.
    6) Sell more digital ships.
