I'm am thinking of getting into console gaming again and just playing some good ole rpg's. Not sure what console is the better one. Doing some google searches it looks like the ps4 beats it in graphics, but otherwise it is pretty close. Just looking to get some personal opinions.
Which would you pick?

If your looking to play some RPG's your pickings are very slim to non existent on both consoles. Not much variety out their yet.
Both consoles in my opinion are no better than the other, they both achieve the exact same thing which is to play games, everything else they do is just fluff.
Maybe separate the two consoles by what exclusive games they each have, do you want Halo or Uncharted for example. Other than that people on this site will tell you xbox one is shit while others will tell you PS4 is shit, you are probably not going to get an unbiased answer to your question.
I have to say, I was always a fan of the 360 in the past, however Ive owned consoles from both sides. Currently I have both the XB1 and PS4. This is not meant to bash the PS4. Its definitely a solid console, however I've got to hand it to the Xbox one, IMO it is the better console. Currently the PS4 is collecting dust and the xbox gets the majority of the use. Even my two roommates primarily use and prefer the XB1. The gaming is very similar. Both have loading times, even though they advertise that they don't. The PS4's graphics are slightly better, but as of now with the current games, I can barely tell the difference. So to me, the claimed graphic difference is not noticeable and not a reason to choose one console over the other. As far as processing speeds? Again, I fail to see much of a difference. I know I will catch some fire from ps4 fanboys for this next section. Functionality. The xbox one layout is IMO easier to navigate and more user friendly than the ps4, the PS4 layout kind of seems disorganized and scattered. As far as the cameras go, the Kinect objectively is far superior. The playstation's camera is lacking. Voice commands and hand motions are nice and smooth on the xbox one. PS4's seems more comparable to the 360 Kinect. The xbox one app is also more user friendly, and makes your phone a universal remote. I like this, because for me, that means no more losing and searching for my TV remote. However, one aspect I wish the XB1 app had was the ability to turn on the console using the phone. (Not that it isnt easy enough to say "Xbox, On" or use the gaming controller). To be honest, I like the PS4 better without there camera, as the voice recognition is pretty poor. It is actually more of a nuisance, as while playing games or watching netflix/movies the dialogue will randomly trigger the voice prompt to pop up on screen and even sometimes bring you back to the main menu. As far as the xbox, I prefer having Kinect hooked up, and do not regret paying the extra money to have it. After I bought the playstation camera, the price difference between the PS4 and XB1 was really only about 40$. PS4 W/ camera= 460$, xbox one W/ Kinect = 499$. Overall for me, the xbox provides much more entertainment than the PS4. The gaming as of now is honestly the same. Maybe in the future, the processing speeds and difference in graphics will be more apparent as game developers begin designing games solely for the next gen. However currently in my eyes, Xbox one is the clear winner. I actually have a few friends that have traded in their PS4 for an xbox one after seeing and using my console. Although have yet to see any of my friends switch from an XB1 to PS4. Hope this helps some of you trying to decide which to get. Although I know PS4 fanboys will be all over this with the "ps4 outsells xbox 3:1". Again, this is my opinion after owning both consoles for about a year now.

I'm a Gamer not a Player!
for me PS4..
Don't Play with me coz I know I can play better than you!
1) 1080i is where gaming will be at(not a biggy if you have read cable provider warning)
2)you will also need to accept sub sampling.likeycbcr (instead of full sRGB)you might also get srgb studio instead(Xbox one should use this. If it is not. Since it is not noticible data)this is also very important.
3)last thing :with all I mentionned before these have real issue ,if you compress everything (speaking to you devlopper!)use will need to accept non color or mono chrome saturated graphic(again not a problem but one of the major mistake game Dev do
1 give you a 50% footprint
2 give you a 30% footprint save (gbps)
3 doesn't exactly save anything(it can if you use limited but I am against it since it never look good on gaming)I preferdev limit their color palette to within non saturated way more chance of being without artifact.all these tip are free on cable provider at the level 3 level.
PC are way different.
On 1:PC take a 50% increase in need .for nogain in look at all(assuming PC and console MSI and timing use invariant tsc)
2) PC take a 30% performance hit too here for very little gain in look!
3: and lastly I suspect saturation of color was never look at lol so you would get this artifact hosting tearing compression issue of saturated color and monochrome regardless
With the caveat I mentionned out of the way if you can live with the ps4 (aka supposedly)compromise,I would get a ps4

I got the PS4.
?Took it back for an Xbox One.
?Which was the buggiest thing I've ever encountered in recent memory, with the noisiest controller I've ever used on a game console....
So it lasted about 20 hours...
Took it back the next day and got the PS4 back again.
Also, same games I had on the Xbox One seem to play better on the PS4. Less frame rate drops, and things like that.
Cannot recomment Microsoft's console until I'm sure they aren't putting dubious disc drives in the console and fix the FW issues (i.e. broken Instant On, which used to be the main reason to get an XBOne, but PS4 has Rest Mode and Game Resuming now so... yea).
I like that I could upgrade to a 1TB hard drive right out of the box in the PS4 without having things dangling out of my console as well. No huge power brick or external drives, etc.
What he said.
@OP, If you want RPGs, Sony have always had the lead on Japanese RPGs. Nintendo has a lot too but the WiiU is on its way out so thats probably out of the question. Consoles are great for JRPGs, but if you just want Western RPGs that are on every platform then PC should be the best option so you can mod them. XBO is the worst platform if you want to play good old JRPGs so if that is your main genre, XBO is out of the question.
I purchased an XBOXONE, because some friends of mine started playing destiny on it. Used it for a little while and went back to computer. I still hop on it every once in a while. I think I would've rather went with the PS4, but because of co-workers and friends having the XBOX, I'm ok with it.
