Maybe i am a bit nostalgic about arena shooters but this game does feel right in a way. It is fluid and have a nice solid "everything has a counter" as well as it having functions for people like me who cant twitch aim for *bleeep* heck it is a shooter that has a playstyle for people who do not like to shoot(Mercy)... That does not come up very often.
As for 40$ and a cosmetic cash shop... Is it annoying... Sure... But it is bettre than no new skins until the next expansion.
Also compared with games like Battlefront (or Battlefield in general) and their DLC scheme... It feels downright generous.
I'm actually a bit shocked they're charging a box price for this. After seeing the kind of success TF2 has had, I was certain they'd go the F2P route with a cash shop, but not both. It's pretty ballsy, but I guess even TF2 had a box price for awhile. It's hard for me to justify spending that kind of cash for something I already have access to, a team/class based shooter with singular map objectives, which functions perfectly and has a healthy population. So I'm willing to wait.

That's a fair assessment, I guess. I just never really considered them valid contenders, considering the size and scope of Blizzards marketing team. If it weren't for individual posters mentioning them on this forum, I would have never heard about either.

Fair enough. I value time spent playing a game having fun. Not the kind of modes that said game gives me. I paid for TF2 when it was released years back and I put over 600 hours into it. I think an online only game that someone who likes that said genre paying $40 or even $60 is well worth the money just as a person who spends the same amount of money on a game that offers only single player may enjoy the game for only single player. Not really any different imo
I bought the Orange Box quite some time ago as well. I think I spent $60 (maybe it was less, I really don't recall) and still play TF2 a bit. Whatever the price was, it also came with Half Life 2 and Portal as well which were both fun also.
Please guys dont compare this with Orange Box. I am really beddazled seeing people making this comparison.
Orange Box was the sweetest deal in gaming history.
It came in time when every game costed 50$ , there was no such thing as free games, or anything like F2P.
The orange box cost 20$
It contained:
Half Life 1 Half Life 2 All expansions of Half Life 2 All expansions of Half Life 1 Counter Strike Portal ( brand new game) Team Fortress 2 (brand new game)
That is around 10 games , all timeless classics - most of them just released for 20$ !!!!!!!
Are you nuts comparing this to Owerwatch that offers same game that most offer today as F2P and asks 60$ for it ?!
Seeing how blizzard is handling this game, they do not seem to have an idea of what makes FPS games fun. They have combined a low TTK with a low skill ceiling. If you do not make weapons or movement challenging to master you end up with a game where the best reaction time/internet connection wins... and Call of Duty already does this much much better than overwatch will.
Like somebody above pointed out, I think I will look at Paladins instead. Hi-Rez consistently makes fun shooters... they also consistently don't bother to balance them and end up trashing them for more funds, but it is still a few steps above what Blizzard is offering.
This is exactly how games used to be sold. Gamers have fallen so far in such a short amount of time accepting the corrupted marketing thrown at them.
No, it's not. You used to spend your 50 or so dollars and get the whole game, no strings attached.
Now with games like Overwatch you pay your money but you still have to pay more if you want everything included in the game (in this case, skins and the like- potentially DLC down the line).
I got in too. Despite popular opinion, I think Hi-Rez is a fantastic company. Unfortunately I find Paladins a bit too casual and fast-paced (games are over in what, 6 minutes?)
I'll stick with SMITE where I have the option of casual kinds of games with Arena or Assault, or the choice of strategy-filled complex 45 minute games with Conquest.
Paladins will be totally free, like SMITE, however. I may still play it off and on, but I don't see it becoming a big thing with me.
I'm glad you understand that paying for someone else's work is still okay. There seems to be allot of people around these days that think software is made by elf's in a magic workshop, therefore it has no value.
This game has no value for me.
Simple then don't play it paid or free, if you will play it for free but not pay for it then you are valuing the worth of your time at zero. And time as measured in aging the most precious resource humans have.

Valuing his time at 0, not the crappy game. These are some interesting mental gymnastics you're doing here.
You seem to be having some difficulty understanding how people could place so little value in something devs are investing time into. You are forgetting how absolutely flooded the market is with games right now. There are better games than overwatch that cost nothing at all (including every game it is taking "inspiration" from). The devs need to put out a better product at a comparable price to the competition. Blizz is not doing that.
Sure thing. I saw you talk about it before so thought if you did not get in I would hook you up
Lucky monkey can't believe you have keys to spare, been trying to get in for a while now, I guess I got no luck in the lucky draw thingy :P Guess I'll play smite until OB, what do you think of the game I like hearing opinions from people who are playing, makes me feel like I'm a part of it

SMITE just fits my MOBA itch too incredibly well.
