The last news i heard about FF was that it was being ported to consoles and that was a while ago before they went completely silent. I would not be surprised if these rumors are actually real.

The game is dead. The latest updates and launch on Steam ruined the game. It was better in alpha and CBT. Random events were fun, Invasions were fun, the Tornados were awesome, the way crafting, leveling and unlocking worked was fun, now it's meh.

A bummer but this game has been floundering for awhile.  It was very promising earlier, but it has been progressing in the wrong direction for awhile.  I keep checking the updates to see if any recovery has been made, but it seems like the developers are doing their damnedest to make this once unique and interesting game into an incredibly generic experience.  On top of that there is so much time between updates, even if they were to start fixing the game up it would take forever.

I really hope these layoff rumors aren't true, but I imagine they are.

Couldn't have said this better myself. I liked the old game so much more. Once they started changing it, it went further, and further down the rabbit hole. Don't even get me started on how badly PvP was done. It's just silly how bad it is. Last I played no one would go into the open PvP area because of how bad it was. Snipers ruled, anything else was a joke. Even as a fully geared tank you were getting one and two shotted by snipers. Really? I mean seriously? What a joke! You can tell Red 5 has little to no PvP experience. The idea and story for this game is really well done. The way they implement it however was terrible. You can tell someone else has their hands on this game now and it shows. The early game was such a blast. I used to love logging in even for just a little bit here and there. Now I haven't even touched it since the summer sometime. I am not even sure it's installed on my machine anymore.

Another very overhyped game that was good until it launched lol

Closed beta was so much more fun than what is released now. Healing was fun and used a beam like in TF2, people were thumping everywhere you looked and the progression was much easier to understand.

As a supporter of this game from the very beginning, it has been a sad ride as this game has transformed over and over again with each iteration removing more of the fun.

Shame really, i greatly enjoyed firefall in its betas, and put quite a bit of money into the founder packages, but for some reason nearly every patch made the game considerably worse.

It could've been so darn fantastic. :( Sad that it went this way.

I really dont expect Firefall to recover.

Disappointing as hell for those hit but not at all unexpected. I've been waiting for this to happen for a while, the game clearly isn't thriving in terms of population/revenue. The games last real shot at being a success is likely its Chinese launch (if it ever even happens), because in the West the game is pretty much toast. Far too long in beta with far too many radical changes in its design direction.

So much missed potential : (

How is this not just blatantly obvious at this point. FireFall hasn't done anything in such a long time. They launched on steam to great success then that died off and they haven't said a word since. I really hope that it isn't true because losing your job really sucks, but it just wasn't unexpected at this point.

How many game updates have there been this year (2015)? One, two? I really enjoyed Firefall and gave them some of my money, but since then there have been very few changes to the game. At least have more than a monthly or bi-monthly forum post with "state of the game". Make some changes, improve some things. Show the community that things are actually happening. This has not happened, and I am not all surprised about this "rumor".

Hope it's not that bad. I a huge fan of firefall but a game cannot be forever in development.

Sad to read all this. I had a lot of fun and the game looked great. But there was always some change that was supposed to come, so I thought I would wait till the game had a more settled form. I hope someone who knows what they are doing takes this game over.

It's not surprising. It was basically Tribes as an MMO, and shooters don't make good MMOs. Tabula Rasa was another one. There needs to be a mix of melee and ranged, otherwise one combat style gets old really fast.

Time to ditch the game and then go on Kickstarter to raise money for a new game to fail at. That is what the MMO industry has become now. I'm really surprised I haven't seen Mark Kern trying to crowd fund something unless I missed it or he is just hiding his head in shame after this disaster. Once again a bunch of ex Blizzard people who thought because they worked on WoW they could do anything, fail hard. My guess is Overwatch will do better than Firefall has done. Nice try though guys.

I was apart of Firefall's very early beta stages. Red5 was undeniably the worst developer I've ever dealt with when it came to improving their game. Firefall had massive potential to be a great game, especially at the PvP level. However, any suggestions that came from the community were completely and utterly ignored. Arrogance, ego, and naivete ruined that game. I can remember countless threads with examples of how Firefall could change to be infinitely better, what things can be improved upon to make the game have a better quality of life element, and ultimately, make the PvP something that could draw some decent competitive players. At least during beta, they sounded very interested in pursuing making Firefall's PvP aspect a potential eSport. But alas, they didn't listen to anyone.

I read a lot of reports and it sounds like Mark Kern was the sole reason behind that game's downfall. It's a shame people are losing their jobs because of the arrogance and ignorance of the guy in charge. But ah well. Good riddance. Moving on.

What, you mean the game advertised as an E-Sports MMO then proceeded to remove PvP from the game and completely change directions failed?! No way!

    Yes! This exactly.
The game got NGE'ed bad even before it released.

From what I heard there was suppose to be some things coming with the next patch. New area, mobs... least what my friend was saying. So I don't think it's dead if they are doing that. But firing people that may not be 'that' necessary helps the game do what is needed.

But getting rid of people doesn't look good either so the game may be on it's way. They are just trying to keep it going as long as they can. And if there is something with this next patch that keeps it going for awhile longer then let's hope so.

I liked the game, it's fun. Hate to see it go, but also there's to many games in the market, need to thin the herd.

Yes, they are on the tail end of a massive game play overhaul. Class progression has been simplified, new combat mechanics, zone events, and the reintroduction of new PvP arean ala jet ball but fun this time.

2012 beta testers will tell you the game was 'so much better' in the early days but the truth is it was broken and incomplete. Disjointed and grindy systems were constantly in a state of refinement because NO ONE was ever happy. You see, games MUST make money, and the overly complicated progression system turned a majority of players away. Don't get me wrong, it was unique, and fun, but poorly explained.

In 2014 Red5 got focused, but by that time they were forced to abandon original concepts in favor of traditional MMO systems. Although still incomplete, they did a damn fine job of pulling a LOT together quickly. A downside to that though was that some of what appealed to me about FF was forever gone, replaced by mechanics in nearly every other MMO in existence. Don't you people ever get tired of loot grind?

last March on FireFall Live, their weekly streamed program, another overhaul was announced. class consolidation, more roll oriented mechanics, combat changes, tons of new content. It all looks good, but if this is true, time has finally caught them. FireFall launched in China last week, maybe it wasn't well received? I don't know, but as stated previously, a game cannot be in a continual state of development.

FireFall is still a game worth saving. It could have once been a contender as a top 5 game, but mismanagement always held it back. Red5 is comprised of some truly talented people. It's art style, game play, and lore are distinctive. I sincerely hope this news is all BS!

The last time i played this game was 4 months ago. The game world is dead. Anyone playing plays on the PTS only because they keep changing everything with no real direction. It was fun before the launch though. Could have been a good game in someone else's hands. Red5 just sucked as a company.

This game needs a new and serious studio to be the game it can be. Red5 is not worthy of the unpolished diamond they have at hands!

I don't think the fact they are shooters is the problem. Otherwise they'd never launch at all. I had great hoped for FF, Defiance, Global Agenda, I want to play an SF shooter MMORPG! These failed games have the problems as all MMORPGs recently. Doing things wrong, not doing enough, or doing things too late.

Red5 was just bought recently iirc. Maybe this is the new company cutting it's losses or making changes.
