Many of us have been telling you for years that we're not OK with accepting the ever-expanding definitions that have Superdata, for example, lump MOBAs into the MMO category.
So? Go along with a bunch of random people on the internet who can't even agree on the exact definition .... or just go along with websites, reviewers and the industry ...
Guess what i picked?
The one that doesn't require you to think?

To break this down. An MMO is defined more by the server itself supporting a massive amount of people being able to play online at the same time. It is not defined by a persistent world RPG or MMMORPG. MMORPG and MMO are different in regards generally. There isn't any "easy" break down directly of what is and isn't this or that only most people's personal opinions, but by definition most things that can support a bunch of people on their own servers (like 1,000+) is considered an mmo
"Can it support hundreds of players in the same game space at the same time? No. Not an MMO."
By that defintion this forum is a bleeding MMO.... Not to mention your average twitch chat... And you can not claim that there is not a serious amount of PvP going on in each of those places.
Massive: yes Multiplayer: Well, many players and a score system Online: check RPG: Here is where it fall.
The real problem in telling a MMO is really how many players that need to be in the same zone for the game to be "massive". We seen some games people have claimed are MMOs with 64 players in the same zone I would opt either for 64 or 128 myself (preferably 128).
With no official number though we might focus on the persistant thing instead. CORPGs and ARPGs don't have that, it opens up a new instance for your group as soon as you leave the hub (or lobby in ARPGs). It isn't perfect but neither is it depending on what you yourself consider "massive". All MMOs do have persistant worlds and while other types of games might have it as well I can't think of any none MMO that does besides possibly the player run servers in Biowares Neverwinter nights.

Absolutely. Thinking the definition of a convenient label is a waste of time.
Talking about it .. OTOH .. is a load of fun.

Yeah, I do believe this post says everything anyone would ever need to know about your true role here on these forums.
"Mr. Rothstein, your people never will understand... the way it works out here. You're all just our guests. But you act like you're at home. Let me tell you something, partner. You ain't home. But that's where we're gonna send you if it harelips the governor." - Pat Webb
Doesn't this all come down to the sites need to make dollars and for that they need as many games as they can get to advertise to push for those dollars? I could list games they have on here that are clearly never going to fit the MMO standard but that is the sites decisions. I would rather the site make dollars so I can get updates and reviews on the MMO's I will play or not play.
But also it will make more of us argue in the non-MMO games threads. Have to take the good with the bad.
Those websites are not "the industry". They're 2 websites of clueless idiots that don't understand what MMO stands for, or if they do understand they are failing MASSIVELY to apply the correct interperation to the right games.
It doesn't matter if it's 2 sites or 200, they are all fuktards.
Vindictus Can it support hundreds of players in the same game space at the same time? No. Not an MMO.
World of Tanks Can it support hundreds of players in the same game space at the same time? No. Not an MMO.
Warframe Can it support hundreds of players in the same game space at the same time? No. Not an MMO.
Marvel Heroes Can it support hundreds of players in the same game space at the same time? I don't know, never even looked at it. No comment.
Hearthstone Can it support hundreds of players in the same game space at the same time? No. Not an MMO.
Star Conflict Can it support hundreds of players in the same game space at the same time? No. Not an MMO.
I could add all of the MOBA's, any party based game with or without a graphic lounge i.e. a village or town to sell stuff at which spawns another instance when it gets 50 or 100 players. I hope you notice I never once ask if there is a persistant world. MMO refers to one thing and one thing only. Concurrent connections to the same game world/space/shard/instance allowing those players to directly interact in the game.
Anyone who seriously considers any of the above to be Massively Multiplayer is either deficient in their comprehension of the English language, or they are an idiot. Just because a lot of pleople use the term incorrectly doesn't make them right. It just means there's a lot of people who are wrong.
Everyone used to think the Earth was flat and the sun revolved around it. Guess what? They were wrong.
Plainly speaking, they are wrong and I am right. I win.
u are pretty stupid lol.. all of those games are MMO... they all support 100 of people at the same time.. since MMO stand for a massive online multiplayer game which doesnt mean people have to be in the same space.. but at a Lobby even.,

First, it's "massively", not "massive".
Second, you're simply wrong. "A massively multiplayer online game (MMOG or MMO) is a video game which is capable of supporting large numbers of players simultaneously in the same instance (or world)."
Third, being infantile with crap like "u are pretty stupid lol" is not only staggeringly immature and uncalled for, but also against the code of conduct for these forums.

Nice response with an even nicer ending. Well done.

Strangely, i agree with Khanstruct, which is rare .. this place will be more fun if people stick to the issues, and leave personal insults out.

hmm .. this topic is about MMO, NOT MMORPG. And i thought people who care about these kind of thing are careful about the use of words.

If you can get couple of websites, reviewers and super data to label you as a super hero, i would be more than happy to do so too.
