I wouldn't put too much thought into this. There is some Sciencey stuff going on here that political leaders will spin in every which direction. In the grand picture doesn't really say much without more research as there are counter studies done by NASA in similar subjects. It's also not really news, its been known for some years.

Sometimes their study are confusing. So I never read most of their news.

@Cleffy It does make me want to read a bunch of research articles on the subject, though. I'd do that about everything if I had the time! Unfortunately, if you're not intimately familiar with the material, it can be really easy to spin facts and manipulate statistics, like you say... :(

We are actually in an intermission period in an ice age.
The earth goes through cycles of ice ages and warm periods, both would be really devastating to humans
(you go from tundra to desert and back).
During the warm periods there is absolutely no arctic ice.
So the whole global warming argument is moot. When the ice age ends, it will make global warming sound like a joke.

It seems anytime something goes political, the actual hard science about that something gets thrown out the window in favor of anything that can be used to further milk that political debate piece.

The new model of the Sun's solar cycle is producing unprecedentedly accurate predictions of irregularities within the Sun's 11-year heartbeat.

It draws on dynamo effects in two layers of the Sun, one close to the surface and one deep within its convection zone.

Predictions from the model suggest that solar activity will fall by 60 per cent during the 2030s to conditions last seen during the 'mini ice age' that began in 1645, according to the results presented by Prof Valentina Zharkova at the National Astronomy Meeting in Llandudno.

The model predicts that the pair of waves become increasingly offset during Cycle 25, which peaks in 2022.

During Cycle 26, which covers the decade from 2030-2040, the two waves will become exactly out of synch and this will cause a significant reduction in solar activity.

'In cycle 26, the two waves exactly mirror each other – peaking at the same time but in opposite hemispheres of the Sun,' said Zharkova.

'Their interaction will be disruptive, or they will nearly cancel each other.

'We predict that this will lead to the properties of a 'Maunder minimum''

A 2007 prediction that summer in the North Pole could be “ice-free by 2013” that was cited by former Vice President Al Gore in hisNobel Peace Prize acceptance speech has proven to be off… by 920,000 square miles.

In his Dec. 10, 2007 “Earth has a fever” speech, Gore referred to a prediction by U.S. climate scientist Wieslaw Maslowski that the Arctic’s summer ice could “completely disappear” by 2013 due to global warming caused by carbon emissions.

There have been at least five major ice ages in the earth's past (the HuronianCryogenianAndean-SaharanKaroo Ice Age and the Quaternary glaciation). Outside these ages, the Earth seems to have been ice-free even in high latitudes.[31][32]

    .....

The current ice age, the Pliocene-Quaternary glaciation, started about 2.58 million years ago during the late Pliocene, when the spread of ice sheets in the Northern Hemisphere began. Since then, the world has seen cycles of glaciation with ice sheets advancing and retreating on 40,000- and 100,000-year time scales called glacial periods, glacials or glacial advances, and interglacial periods, interglacials or glacial retreats. The earth is currently in an interglacial, and the last glacial period ended about 10,000 years ago. All that remains of the continental ice sheets are the Greenland andAntarctic ice sheets and smaller glaciers such as on Baffin Island.

I find this odd since recently there was a lot of videos done proving why less ice was really bad for the environment and it had  dropped really low.
Honestly what study or whomever is hired to do the study is really going to know? They do have satellites but then why were they claiming that ice caps had fallen off a lot over the last 20 years if they were using Satellite information?

I think what we have here is a case of some high paid government jobs needing to keep themselves in the relevant field to keep getting government funding. It really is amazing how much Governements spend on foolish things when medicare keeps taking a bad rap.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Vice news ... HBO episode on climate change... think it was season 2... watch that and tell me climate change aint real.

HBO is politically motivated and biased. Vice itself is completely staffed by liberals.

Any documentary against the global warming scam is usually censored from the internet.
Scientists who conduct studies that turn out not in favor of global warming are usually fired.

The reason why they have started using "man-made climate change" instead of "global warming" is because it has been proven that the earth is not warming. In fact, there was a scandal that was barely covered where emails surfaced where scientists were told to adjust their temperatures or be fired.

I really begin to think that all this trap with global warning is only political oriented shit which thay use to manipulate the potential voters.

I wintered McMurdo Station Antarctica Oct82-Oct83.  Spent 2 days at Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station as well.  As someone else said, politicos will spin this to make points.

I've done a lot of research into global warming, by which I've read a lot of the original scientific publications, analysed the data sets myself, as well as read tons of opinion pieces and books on the subject.

From everything I've read, I've come to the following conclusions:

    1) Global warming is happening - a 150 year upward trend in global temperatures cannot be ignored

    2) 99% of global warming research focuses on IF its happening or the EFFECTS of global warming. There is surprisingly little research done on WHY it is happening

    3) The research into WHY global warming is happening shows that it is not humanities fault. The cause is variations in the earths orbit around the sun: we're moving closer to that big ball of fire in the sky!

The reason I got interested in global warming is a rather personal one: I hate hippies. In my experience, hippies are usually very well intentioned but are almost exclusively completely ignorant. Just like religious fanatics, hippies pick and choose facts to support their arguments and ignore everything else, so I consider it a civic service to re-educate as many hippies as possible.

Hopefully, if enough of us do it, this will lead to a better world. Hippies, in their self-righteous arrogance, tend to make a lot of political noise and politicians, in an attempt to appease "the people", often end up implementing policy proposed by vocal minorities. This is why governments waste billions and billions every year trying to prevent global warming - something that isn't possible.

You also have to consider more sinister motives for the global warming swindle. History has shown us that, with global changes in climate comes global shifts in power, generally east to west or west to east. At the moment, the west has the power and, naturally, is afraid to lose it. Lying about the causes of global warming, the west can impose global restrictions on emissions that hurt the east far more than it does the west, thus allowing the west to hold onto power for longer.

I'll leave with the question that really gets to the heart of the matter (from a scientific point of view) and is a great starting place for sceptics and believers alike:

Why did temperature start to rise before CO2 levels?

I suggest you start by checking out the data itself: look at temperature graphs and greenhouse levels historically. That is the first step: confirming that temperature did indeed start to rise before greenhouse gas levels. Once you've done that, you should instantly realise that what the media tells us is utter shit. How can humanity / co2 be the cause if temperatures started to rise first?!
