Logitech g105 vs. g510s

Few weeks ago I bought logitech g105 keyboard, and I was really pleased with the overall feeling of it. I listen to a lot of music while gaming usually so I started to miss the buttons to change tracks, change volume, mute, etc that I had in my old keyboard. So, a couple of days ago I noticed the g510s keyboard in the store and it had all the fluff buttons I need unlike the g105, and it looked like the same keyboard otherwise, buttons look the same etc, coloring and so forth. My mistake was to think that it's the same keyboard with more features, and once I got home and opened the box, frustration kicked in.

The g510s has these really stiff buttons, that require harder presses to get the keys down while the g105 has buttons that feel a lot more responsive, faster, and overall more comfortable to use. I sometimes miss key presses with g501s because I find the buttons way too stiff. So I have a keyboard that is awesome for the actual keyboard functions (g105) and a new keyboard that has all the feature buttons I want, but I really dislike the actual keys and how they respond (g510s).

I tried to Google, but did not find any answers if there is out there a keyboard that has the g105 key press feel, but also has the g510s media buttons like switching tracks and volume control? This is so frustrating having two keyboards that would be great together, but separately they fail to deliver.

Halp!

I noticed the g105 has media controls assigned to F6-F12 through the use of a FN key. Or do you specifically want dedicated keys for them like the g510s?

=D you should have asked on the forums before buying. Many suggest going to somewhere like Best Buy to test the feel of a keyboard before you buy. Personally I use a Corsair Mechanical keyboard which is awesome and runs about the same price as that 510 with... the media settings.

I use the K70 Red, I heard the RGB has some issues. I don't use their software. I just use the keyboard as a keyboard. The media buttons work as they should and that's about as much effort I want to put into a keyboard. I imagine the software isn't very good since they generally are not very good.

Thank you, you saved my life >.> I like dedicated buttons more but this is fine also, I just tried it and works fine, cheers :)

True, but I bought the g105 in hurry since I needed new keyboard fast. The last one just fell apart after years of use and I could not find the model anywhere on sale anymore. The g510s simply looked like it would be the same as g105 but with more features :)

@Kuinn - do you use the Logitech Gaming Software with that?

@Cleffy - Thanks for the info. I like to store different configs for different games so I use the software sometimes. My son has a Razer Chroma with the silent keys (like the Cherry Reds) and the software is okay, but can cause problems with a few games.

Thanks to both for the info. It's helped me sort out my keyboard options.
Yes I do use the software but so far I have not found much use for it. On the g510s I did use it mostly to change the color of the lights behind the keys, but g105 has only the default blue color for the lights. I've never used macro keys on any keyboard, so that functionality is not so important to me either, perhaps one I day I will find some use for them :P

The G15 and G19 have non-mechanical keyboards and the full media control suite - they are both discontinued but you can still find them occasionally.

You may also try the G710+ (not the regular 710) - it is mechanical but uses a softer and quieter switch.

    G110:

If this has the same key press feel as g105 it would be perfect with the media buttons on up right corner, hmm. I'll have to check some local computer stores if they have any gathering dust somewhere...

I went from a dome keyboard to a mechanical one a few weeks ago and I don't think I can go back now.  The feel of mechanical keys is just superb.  I suggest you look into them.

I still have my G11 on an old system that I used to game on.  It is a great keyboard.
