STO offers both the great universe of Star Trek and amazing space combat. It's the only way to feel connected to the series and Cryptic does a great job of immersion with voice talent, great storytelling and faithful representations of old fan favourites and new species alike.
STO has been fun ever since I started playing a year and a half ago, both on space and surprisingly more fun for me personally on ground, despite the problems people have with it. It's also fun to find friends who share common interests in fleets and run pve queues together.
One of my favorite things about Star Trek Online is theory crafting and min/maxing with the Reddit/sto and Reddit/stobuilds communities. I especially love dual heavy cannon builds.
I enjoy star trek online because to be honest its has a lot of what i enjoy in a game and in the setting. I love the stories, the tv show and even the movies and the game the game lets me make the character i want and gives me quite a few options in how i play.
My favourite part about Star Trek Online is the foundry – it is an amazing experience to be able to create and play your own missions in the Trek universe. Star Trek is about diversity and the pursuit of science – the foundry tool really gives you the opportunity to demonstrate that!
Why do I play STO? That's simple. Voyager. It was better than TNG, DS9 or TOS. (I refuse to admit that Enterprise even existed.) Never missed an episode and was sad when it ended. So, the idea of running around an MMO in an Intrepid was a no brainer.
I love STO because it's casual. It doesn't take a lot of time commitment and it fits my schedule! Not to mention it's also one of the most fun games I've played within the past four years!
This game actually is what REALLY got me into Trek. Before, I was just marginally interested, watched a lot of Voyager when it was on air, watched the movies with family.
But this game was something totally different than others I had played before. The story is pretty engaging, the mechanics are decent enough.
The game has plenty of flaws, true, BUT in the end I can not seem to get away from it.
It is enjoyable, and can be played on your own schedule, as little as 30 minutes a day allows me to have progress made on a character. Very flexible that way and I do like that.
I love Star Trek because it got me interested in science; not just physics, but genetics as well, which I now study. It's my childhood, but my future too. :D
Just think, there might be no Star Trek Online if Lucille Ball hadn't used her clout to get NBC to reconsider the show after they rejected it the first time. So, thanks to 'I Love Lucy' we can play Star Trek Online today, good times for everyone. :-)
