Why I love STO? I think for me, what it is that keeps pulling me back in after all these years, is it's simplicity to pick up and run with it. Take a ship you like, slap some pretty guns on it, and go let out some stress with some gratuitous space battles. I enjoy seeing massive starships broadside and tear each other apart with energy weapons, I love the chain reactions of catastrophic core failures, I love seeing the screen shake and hearing the explosion of several years of construction destroyed in a matter of minutes. As a starship captaining game, STO hits the nail on the head for me - The X series of games makes commanding a large vessel too intensive and intimidating, and games like Freespace and Freelancer are masterpieces in their own way, but life as a captain is more or less out of your reach.
Growing up, my parents were huge trekkies. Every summer we'd go to Las Vegas and hit up the Star Trek convention. I saw a good amount of the series; mom and dad had all the movies, watched some of them on repeat, even; and our Christmas trees always had a couple Enterprise and Shuttle ornaments on the front. STO lets me reminisce about some of those episodes with occasional shout-outs and references that make me say "Oh hey! Yeah I remember that! Good to see you again!" And that's just awesome.
I grew up watching TNG. I loved watching all the adventures, even as they continued through Voyager, DS9, and then into Enterprise. I even watched JJ Abrams do his thing with Star Trek. Each episode and movie told a story (even a bit in the Abrams movies too). Some stories were about being a good person, some more moral dilemmas, some were about making choices, some were about losing loved ones. They all were great to watch and enjoy, as you felt what the characters felt. Now with STO, you can create your own adventures, have your own crew, have your own ships, and meet friends online. Its a great mix of social interaction and the series I love.
I simply love star trek. Ive played all the starfleet command games and star trek online helped fill the void after starfleet command 3. The 3rd axis in space combat gives it that extra bit of fun for flyby's etc.
STO is one of the few games I can still get all my friends together for. I have had some great times in large groups patrolling the galaxy and just having a good time. Who doesn't like blowing stuff up in outer space though! It also brings back fond memories of sitting around with my dad watching TNG on prime time TV.
I love Star Trek, and IMO STO is the best free to play MMO in the business, instead of being punished for not subscribing, you're simply rewarded for subscribing, I'm free to play and I've never felt like I was inferior for not subbing, also fantastic space combat, and one of the best character customizers in the business.
STO is precious to me. Star Trek is one of my biggest passions, and a continued inspiration in my life. STO is an incredible extension of that universe, and it gives me a wonderful means to relax and de-stress.
I've been a Star Trek fan for a very long time, and Star Trek Online is one of the few games that I have continued to actually play after reaching maximum level. I love playing the episodes, and seeing the universe evolve. There are certainly flaws, and we'll frequently quip about them among the people I play with, but ultimately they're small flaws that all games suffer. And, more importantly, the game is just a heck of a lot of fun. Flying about in a ship, broadsiding Terran invaders, or Tholians with antiproton weaponry? Who wouldn't want that?
I love it because the combat is fun, there is a wide range of character customization options, and the ships and environment have a real Star Trek feel to them.
My favorite part about Star Trek Online is having the absolute freedom to anything what a starship captain can do. You want to go on an away mission -done! you want to explore unexplored star systems, done!
I've played quite a bit of STO in my free time. Trying to scrape together the money to get a T6 ship now, actually. It still hasn't gotten old for me though. During battles I still say "fire photons" out loud sometimes, much to the chagrin of my significant other.
I love STO because it's the best F2P MMO out there. Trek games are a minority these days and STO ticks the most boxes. Visuals are stunning and the dev team continually put out good content on a regular basis.
There are many reasons why I love Star Trek Online, but I really love the fact that you can play separately as a Klingon. I remember a few years ago when I unlocked Klingon play... it was pretty thrilling!

Plus it has lots of fun spaceships for us to play with.
