The ban crazy ZOS. My Brief time with ESO.

Hello everyone, I have been playing this game for over a month now. I have spent countless hours playing this game. Just two days back, i was at Stonefalls about to get my goblin disguise, i stopped at Vivec's Antlers to take a screenshot of those beautiful magma corals, i press "print screen", my game freezes for about 2 seconds and i got "booted out of the server" error.  Just like that out of the blue i get banned and absolutely for no reason atall. I raised an appeal, asking why i was banned. The response i got is

"After a thorough review of your account with the UserID: sacredslayer, it has been determined that the account did in fact violate our Terms of Service.  We regret to inform you that your appeal for an account ban reversal is denied due to the evidence within our system for association with known fraudulent accounts.

Due to the extent and scale of the violation, it has been decided that the ban on this account will remain in place, and that all services related to this account shall remain deactivated permanently. This decision was not made lightly, however it is final."

I know i haven't done anything to violate the TOS, i haven't sold gold, i haven't bought gold nor have i used third party applications other than the addons from ESOUI. I had 1m+ gold on my id which was farmed by me for hours in craglorn and rift and refining mats. i kept hoarding my gold so that i could spend on stuff at veteran level 16 . My character was at vr10, already close to the max level. How can a company ban a  completely innocent player who has actually spent his time and money on this game? After googling "banned for no reason" I have found so many people stating that they have been banned for no particular reason. Why would zenimax force such brutal actions on us?

I have played a lot of mmos but have never faced such an issue ever. I play guildwars 2 and i used to farm and hoard gold which i made farming trick or treat bags but i was never banned there. I am not really comparing both games but i was enjoying this game and was even planning to get the DLCS after i hit vr16 but i guess thats not happening. I really dont have the heart to sit. farm all the gold and level from scratch.

I could find lots of people with similar issues on google. They treat other people's time and money like its nothing. Without these paranoid bunch running the game, this game would have been so much better.

Sorry for the long post, i just wanted to share my experience. I was looking forward to playing this game for sometime since i kinda stopped playing Gw2.

1 million gold after playing for just one month?

I have no comment one way or another about your ban but please explain how you did that... I'm sure we'd all love to know how that's even possible.

Farm Voidstone/Voidbloom/Night wood in upper craglorn. You get potent nirncrux, fortified nincrux. Potent nirncrux sells for more than 20k. Refine voidstone to get tempering alloys which sell for 7k a piece. Fortified nirn sells for 6k+. If you farm there for about 5 hours a day, you could get way more than 1m in a month. But its boring obviously to run in circles for hours a day exactly why i dont what to repeat the whole process again. And doing such a thing doesnt warrant a ban. I got the gold completely legit. I have never bought a single gold from sellers.

I'm sure if you google "people who have been probed by aliens" you'll find a lot of those too. Doesn't mean it happened the way you said it did.

If you spent money with them charge it back, move on and never do business with them again.

All i know is i got banned for absolutely no reason atall. What does assocation with fraudulent account even mean? I dont know if ip is flagged due to some other player. And about posts i saw on reddit/esoforums, i really dont know if they got banned for no reason or not but i am forced to believe them as i am facing a similar problem.

OK. I've done those Nirncrux farming runs before but I guess you have more patience and perseverance than me lol... I can only do it  for short periods of time. And then I tend to hoard my mats for present and future crafting instead of selling them as well.

Could it be that you bought the game from a third party and they found out that it was a stolen account?
  • aeoliahaeoliah Member UncommonPosts: 21
@FlyByKnight Yup, i am saying goodbye to ESO, not that ZOS cares about losing one tiny customer.  @Iselin Yup sometimes it gets really frustrating when those nirns dont drop but at times i get really lucky with like 4-5 potents dropping in 2 hours.

It means you bought the software/passcode/login from an irreputable vendor. You bought a fraudulent account, or one which had been previously owned/user by another participant and they were able to directly identify you are not he.

I dont think so, if the key was acquired by a stolen CC, they would exactly mention that in the mail. For me they stated "Association with a fraudulent account" and they dont clearly mention what that means.

Where did you buy the game?

And in case you weren't aware, back in May 2015 hundreds of accounts were banned at once due to bad keys bought from dodgy sources. ZOS even posted a list of legitimate vendors on Reddit back then to help people avoid scams:

    https://www.reddit.com/r/elderscrollsonline/comments/36womu/deactivation_of_fraudulently_obtained_esotu_game/

And it wasn't a one time thing - they have been monitoring game keys ever since that time.

If ZOS was really "ban crazy", these fora would be filled with dozens of posts every day protesting their innocence. That is not the case.

There is not one single MMO developer in the world who hasn't been accused of "unfairly banning" players. There is also a thriving RMT industry in the world.

Mistakes will happen, and you have my sympathy if you have truly been a victim of such an error. I can understand that it may sour your view of ZOS, but it doesn't change my opinion of them in the slightest.

I think more light might be shed when we hear where you bought the game from. Not kinguin I hope.

I just can't see a company turning away potential sub fare for no reason, hence my initial hesitation to buy any type of suggestion that's what they do. Hence the phrase banned for no reason makes little sense to me at all. They gain nothing in doing so, and I doubt they are just banning folks on a whim to get a laugh. Were you selling your wares to undesirables or something along those lines?

I don't know the whole story, but this is not adding up. I think once Iselin's question is answered we will know the real reason.

I'd have to say that as well as maybe buying it from a 3rd party site without knowing. GMG has been having problems with that this year. Edit: Also ZoS isn't that swift when it comes to technical issues so a month sounds about right if that were the case

Heyyyy, why's it have to be Iselin's question? I already gave the answer prior.

Just kidding. It can be Iselin's question. I didn't really use an interrogative form.

Buying directly from GMG is fine -- they're on the list of legit vendors. The problem is that many of the online retailers have, in addition to their own direct sales, marketplaces where users can sell to users - those purchases can be risky.

You are correct Adjuvant1. You brought it up and Iselin asked it.  I will do pushups for my mistake. In all seriousness I think what you said must be the reason.

uh "no they wouldn't". Where did you buy the game? As others have suggested that is probably the reason. Sorry for that.

There must be something else going on here.  Makes no sense for a developer to randomly ban someone for no reason.

Considering that the OP essentially went silent after the question, it does seem that may have been it.
