Ethan Casner and team have put out a new trailer and information that announces that early access to Divergence Online simply awaits Steam giving it the literal green light to open. Considered by developers to be the "spiritual successor to Star Wars: Galaxies", the game has had its ups and downs over its eight years in development but now, with core features in place, the game is ready to launch for $40, with a $30 price tag during launch week.

After 8 years, they are "ready for Early Access" ! Full game will probably launch around 2023 then ? :D
Is this the longest-running MMO development project in history ?

better late then never.
This game will have 10 people playing it within a month. Open PvP everywhere, full loot, perma-death (sort of). AND a sub. The contributors and guys who have bought in will be there but thats about it. Probably be akin to Fallen Earth in population. start out with a couple thousand people then within a couple months a few hundred.
But FE still has (apparently) enough people still logging in to make it profitable (except they went FTP and were bought out a few years ago). But just because servers are still open doesnt mean its worth playing.
Seriously these games need to stop comparing themselves to other games (especially failed games) and just hope its good enough for people to play. I am just waiting for the first "its Vanguard 2.0'' game to come out.

And he is correct in that the graphics are not top notch. The UI is obviously incomplete:
Character models are a poor quality, and is that a dinosaur in the middle of their base? Looks like more programming is needed, though my 7 year old (one year older than the stated age of the devs) would like it left that way:
Gunfire sfx are weak. Muzzle flash and lens flare are great ideas, but not if I can't see the middle of the screen when it happens:
I personally prefer floating trees, but the OP may not:
Long distance view shots are subpar:
I personally can look past all this if the gameplay is awesome, and hopefully the graphics will improve before the offical launch. The OP sounds like he feels the graphics at this stage are unacceptable and used hyperbole to get his point across. Perhaps instead of ranting about his post you could show some real proof that he has "no idea what you are talking about."

Another SWG 2.0? I always love hearing this nonsense. SWG WASNT that great to begin with people just have selective memories.

Actually, The Developer caved to the vocal pve crowd over at massively a few months ago. The same crowd that shoots down every open world, pvp game said they'd donate if there was a pve server, and Ethan decided he'd stretch his already thin resources and make one. For what it's worth.

Examples,
The cloning bay in the first scene is exactly the same layout to the tee as in swg.
The resource icons for crafting are the exact same.
The surveying screen for crafting is the exact same.
Ui menu screens have the exact same layout and style.
Note all these thing were noticed in less then two minutes of video footage. I see this company getting a giant lawsuit over this. In my opinion this is the biggest fake / ripoff that devlopers can pull.

This project has even gone as far as to completely COPY the surveying system. If I wanted to play SWG I would just play the EMU. If I want better graphics ill load in a texture pack.
Lastly, you can be "The next SWG" without copying directly with no clear innovation. This project is just sad.
But anyway... it looks more like SWG 1.5 - I'm surprised Divergence hit #1 on the steam greenlight when last month AQ3D Greenlight only reached #4 (not that you can compare the two) just surprised that a game with a solid background and followers failed to reach at least #2 interest, and that's while having an active Kickstarter running.
I just bought into an Early Access game about a week ago (Squad) and it will be in E-A for about a year (great game, high recommend), wondering how long Divergence will be under E-A wrappings.
No fate but what we make, so make me a ham sandwich please.
This game is a complete rip off of swg if you look at lil things you can tell its just a repolished version of swg, and repolished is being used strongly.

They state in one of their videos that they remade everything to be as close to SWG as possible, as far as building/extractors and such at least. But I guess you didn't care to research a bit before bashing it. I think It's awesome that they are doing that.
