PC + Console cross platform gaming is only something a lot of gamers have been vocally demanding for at least a decade.

Lost my mind, now trying to lose yours...

Too bad I don't play this game no more. The sub isn't worth it and the DLC packs are way too quick for me to afford.

Cool. I don't play the game though.

It works well here..  Would I want the Battlefield franchise to feature cross platform?  Heck no.

The amount of headache that would cause DICE, trying to balance for joystick vs. mouse aim..

I just wish Microsoft would pull their heads out and allow the same. Thinking about selling my xbox one and getting a PS4 because of this. (not this game specifically, but because cross play is a good thing to allow)

    Interesting...

Yet another game has PC/PS4 crossover. This is going to start hurting XBox soon, because PS4 is pulling ahead it seems. Always more fun when your game is more populated. It means busier worlds in MMO's and shorter queues in match-based play.

I thought the console makers were the ones nixing it in the past for games like Defiance.

Sony and Microsoft have been against PS/Xbox players on the same servers forever. They still are against this today.

If I were Microsoft I wouldn't want my players to have to deal with shit servers like PS4 and PC players deal with. The xbox live experience has always and still does to this day have more stable smoother operating servers. I've played on them all, Microsoft xbox live servers are better. I will gladly give up a few fps or higher resolution for better performance on the server side.

Since when does Mickey$oft allow cross-platform servers for XBOX1?

They don't. This said cross platform for PS4/PC, and Xbox version is in the works, so they'll do their own thing.

Why would linking the servers mean the XBOX1 players would have to "deal" with PS4 servers? They'd be linked not running on PSN. If one side was down you'd see less players on. As for the same servers as PC, no choice there. Even if XBOX1 and PC aren't linked you're still going to be playing on the same hardware.

Typically it's been for FPS games because after looking into it MS realised how OP mouse aiming was vs controller. For typical MMO's I'm not so sure it's a problem. In the case of Defiance, regardless of whether you count it an MMO or not, it's a shooter so console players would be at a disadvantage.

Microsoft doesn't allow cross play with ps4. They are fine with cross play with PC. Some of their future games are designed for cross play between PC and Xbox e.g. Fablw legends.

i do agree that Microsoft and Sony should stop being ducking idiots and allow cross play on consoles. I am not sure about cross play on shooters though. Shooters shouldn't cross play with PC. Ps and Xbox is fine though.

Wrong. Microsoft allow cross play between PC and Xbox. Get your facts straight. They even design some of their future games with that in mind,

Even moreso I think MS went into it with a cheshire cat grin
DCUO is (was) the "flagship" mmo of Sony, made for the PS3 (even PC was more like an afterthought, at start it was a pain in the butt to play with keyboard and mouse), with numerous times released data of the majority plays on PS3 (and PS4 too since its launch).
But, it's not SOE anymore, it's DGC  so yep, I think the real question is not how MS went into this (with a grin I'm sure), real question is what was the Sony folks' reaction...

Yeah for shooters it's a complete no no. Mouse is significantly easier. Controller requires more timing skill and precision. Which is said cause shooters on PC need the population boost. I recently read an article, in the uk 90% of the latest cod sales were on ps4 and Xbox. So tiny population for PC.

Can you imagine if Microsoft allowed halo on PC and Xbox? Not that's ever going to happen as then ps fans may be able to try's halo and Microsoft can't have that -_-

Looks like crossovers are mostly going to be PS4/PC only, already several games out there that do this very well, the main one being FFXIV:ARR, i think one of the factors is that the PS4 supports keyboard/mouse use natively, the XB1 apparently, and this is kind of weird, doesn't support keyboard/mouse at all, its forever on their 'to do' list.
I think its fairly inevitable that we'll see more and more games being PC/PS4 linked, not because the PS4 is a more powerful games machine than the XB1, but i can imagine that does have some impact, but because there are far more PS4's out there than XB1's, either Sony and MS stop being so proprietory, and allow their consoles to have a less restricted access when it comes to games, or MS will find itself increasingly frozen out on Console as the majority, and perhaps the best games will inevitably be PC/PS4, of course that is probably what Sony wants, but i think for the future of gaming online, they both need to compromise.

No one is going to attach a mouse and keyboard to a console, how do you even do that? I am going to sit on a desk or something? the people I spoke to on ffxiv all use controllers if they are playing on ps.

Both Microsoft and Sony are against cross play with other consoles, both are open to cross play with PC.

So so far we have only seen cross play with ps4 exclusives because they don't have to deal with Xbox. None of the big games have cross play. Microsoft going to have cross play with some of their future exclusives.

PC is the one that tends to benefit from cross play because PC tends to have low population for a lot of the big blockbuster games.
