i must be the only one that likes the combat system, i play a standard blade master and love the resource building/consumer system combined with the combo system and the way you can even specialise and make your own builds...
There is one sad thing however, combat against basic ennemies is so short you cane one trick pony trough it witouth any real challenge...
but the system(mechanic) is probably the best i have seen in any action based MMORPG.. Its fluent, its reactive, its fun...
Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

We'll see how it pans out long term, and if they'll balance accordingly.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Is the combat fun enough to justify a subscription model? If you can't say yes, then it's a fleeting feeling at best.
Just another MMO.
sucks that they all work against each other, instead of combining their powers and making one real mmo :proud:
a gamer may dream ^^
"I'll never grow up, never grow up, never grow up! Not me!"
Every server is full and there adding new servers... So some of these comments are irrelevant......
Granted it's the honeymoon phase and I'm sure it will die down but as of this moment it's pretty popular.......
It's the arcade style combos (at least on assassin) that I find a real struggle with.
What are your other Hobbies?
Gaming is Dirt Cheap compared to this...
Tip:
Dont use Recommended Builds. This auto distributes your points based on whether you choose PVP, PVE or Dungeon.
I miss the days of MMOs that dropped you into a small corner of an engaging world without a bunch of bullshit fetch quests and "story" forced on you the first second you log in. I want to actually play the game, not be forced to skip and click past bullshit.
And I can definitely see the combat and build system having promise, but getting to that point is a huge turn off.
What happened to this genre...
Care to name those MMOs?
Me thinks those rose colored glasses are shining brightly.
I also agree that the recommended auto builds are crap. They change skills to things I don't want and leave out some better options, things I use a lot. I found changing between the list and icon views helps to sort through things a bit and I can see which skills I'm using most based on the layout rather than scrolling down a very long list.
I'd also say get into your mid 20's before giving up. Skills unlock all the time and you find yourself doing some new attack/animation and thinking WTF was that.
Tried a few classes and Blade Dancer is definately my favourite so far. Tempted to try the LBM for a comparison.
I mean it's better than WoW up to 11. Sure it's not different and I probably won't stick with the game long-term but I wouldn't call the rest of the game bad.
It's been a long time for me and I was but a mere toddler then, but I don't recall EQ having many quests at all. I remember it having a lot of group camping but as far as quests, didn't those come very sparingly, like every few levels or so? I never played EQ2 so maybe that was different and can't say much about UO, it was a bit before my time
Right. And weren't those like every five levels or so?
I had hopes for Black Desert but lately all I've heard is how the devs abandoned their initial vision for the game, the vision that first attracted me to it in the first place.
On topic with Blade and Soul, the gameplay might be outstanding but I don't think I'll ever get to experience it because I'm fatigued from being bludgeoned by endless on-rails quests (that are exactly like every other themepark in existence..) that treat me like this is my first MMO, and by the obnoxious story.
At what point are we as consumers going to start demanding something more from these by the numbers MMOs? Differentiating in the area of combat alone isn't enough. I suspect this is a big part of why most recent MMO releases have been busts, and no it isn't because some were P2P. People will pay for quality. Nothing released lately has been quality; it's all been another rehash of the same old bullshit.
Um ... CC is a combat tactic in PvP, and its just as important as far as strategy is concerned as any DPS skill. An argument could even be made that perhaps even more so.
Geesh ... all I can do is *smh* at some of these complaints.
Op said it himself, combat is just too quick.Well with quick combat how can you even remotely say it is good?
I will try to use some analogies to put it in perspective.
I sort of look at it like you see that epic soccer game that ended 2-1 or 1-0 or that great legendary MTL-Russian hockey game that ended 3-3,tons of back n forth action, active and reactive plays ,nothing comes easy, everyone had to work their ass off. That is when fans sit back and say man that was an epic great battle. You'll never see someone say 3 second knockout....great fight.
When i see people playing ARPG's like Diablo and all they do is just start spinning in a 360 wiping everything out,i think combat rating of 1/10 and i would fire that system designer if he worked for me.
To simplify it,there is a reason games use health totals,if they wanted combat over in one fell swoop then everyone would just have 1 hp and a weapon that does 1 dmg.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
