Good MMORPG with a strong economy?

Hello all,
Around a year ago I used to play a game called PokeMMO.
I have played the game for nearly 2 years and ended up being the richest person in the game but was sadly banned due to real money trade (which I have never done but that's history). The game has a really strong economy based on Shiny Pokémons (chance to find one was 1/32768 in PokeMMO) and PokeYen. For over one year I tried to find a MMORPG which has a strong economy (which is not forcing the player to buy a lot of in-game features in order to compete with the best).
Would anyone know such MMORPG which has a strong economy and is based around trading and hard work?
It shouldn't have a player base of 1,000,000 players (like WoW or Runescape).
I would greatly appreciate any ideas,
