The gold spammers will need to get in line behind NCSoft to do that.

A week ago everyone who pointed this out was called a troll.

It was the player's fault for not blocking the spammers.

It were only 10 spammers they said.

This thread....gold spam exists in pretty much every game. On most NA/EU servers of FFXIV there's non-stop spam, just check the official forums. What's killing retention in that game isn't really the spam but the content since its very lackluster and pretty much copy paste of 2.x. So yeah....Heck even WoW is having gold spam issues again on some servers

    Nope.

There are intelligent algorithms that can block gold spamming.

One was designed by Steven Klug from SoE, it is an algorithm that learns. Players tag the gold spammer and the algorithm learns from it.

After about a week, all gold spam was gone in EQ. The algorithm outsmarted the spammers. The algorithm knows the difference between gold spam and regular text and preemptively blocks all gold spam. Gold spam literally dropped to 0 within a week.

it is the best piece of code I have ever seen

Best solution is even a small moderate buy fee , 5 or 10 dollars.

This reason along makes me ignore all F2P games.

Neverwinter in early access for paid users only , chat was quite enjoyable , then F2P hit and instantly was unusable.

Swore off F2P , then tried Skyforge with paid early packs. Enjoyed it.

F2P beta opened up , I asked for a refund within an hour.

I like to communicate in zone with people outside my guild and party , if I have to turn off zone/area chat due to F2P spamming , then its not worth my time.
HAHAH no it won't solve anything. Go play FFXIV for a month and come back here i'll wait, that game has a buy in and a monthly sub and is literally FILLED to the brim with gold spammers and they are worse than blade & soul where they will frequently whisper you.

Sad truth is, gold spammers only exist because the PLAYERS support them.
I won't go into my whole spiel on this, but exactly.
No, gold spammers exists because developers support them by making the game a grind. As long as you can get all the major objectives in game by doing normal quests, with no need to kill 10000 boars to have enough money for a mount, the gold sellers are out of job.
That's not the case with a game based on RNG . I gave Blade and Soul a try but the chat was mostly about gold selling, no open world and too much like a kung-fu movie,as far as asian mmos go I think I prefer TERA.

There isn't really a good way to stop this in a F2P game.  You can disable the account but they just create another one.  You could limit talking in chat, hasn't worked yet in a F2P game they just make new accounts and rotate through them.  You could try IP blocking, there are tons of ways around this also.  This is part of the problem with F2P titles, it is very hard to stop somebody that wants to do something like this.  About the only thing that would stop this is a legal system battle with  developers vs. gold sellers which you will hardly ever happens because most the gold sellers live in areas that have no laws regulating this.

I did think of one way that would solve it and it has been done and that is for developers to just straight out sell the gold themselves for real money.  But this just creates a whole other problem in the game that it just isn't worth it.

Dude. When AION launched it was a P2P game. You had to pay full box price + 15 bucks a month.

At launch, the servers we're in the same mess as Blade & Soul is in right now, with bots and gold spammers taking up all the space!
It was absolutely ridiculous and unheard of for a P2P game at that time and NCSoft handled that poorly as well.
The gold spam was horrific and the botting was a complete joke, with entire zones being empty of mobs permanently camped by bot trains!  You could´t even complete your quests, because the quest mobs were insta killed by bot trains the moment they respawned!

The vast majority of the people left that game in frustration within the first month. I still remember the angry mob of people demanding a refund for that game back then, because of the whole shambles release that was AION.

I haven´t touched an NCSoft game ever since that debacle.

It´s nice to see NCSoft has´t changed a single bit after all these years. /shrug

Every game has them initially. It is how the company deals with them that matters. In G2, they were there then poof gone.

Wait and see how the company deals with them.

    I find it's less than 10. I log in, block/report about 3 or 4 and I'm done. It's a non-issue.

If you don't like gold spammers then don't buy gold. Simple supply and demand folks.

Know what else...those spammer bots are taking up a place a live gamer could be using.  How many of the 7000 people on the servers are actually bots - and is that the reason the queue's are so long because these spamming bots just stand around and spam chat taking up space on the server - when actual players would be signing out on a regular basis when their play session is over.  Bots don't have a play session.   Also...here is a simple fix.

In order to use chat you have to input a random could that is flashed onto the screen.  If you don't input that could you can't use chat.   Hell use a captcha type system.   I don't care.  NCSoft needs to address this.
I am sure you meant to say code and not could but whatever.

Sure you could do that and it would slow them down for a time but I would expect that a majority of real players would get fed up with that system and start complaining about it.

NCSoft has said they are working on some things that should help with the problem so let's see what they come up with.

For every move there is a counter move. Come up with smart ways to block them and the smart gold spammers come up with a counter move. So nope, to your nope. FACT: Every new MMO has a problem with gold sellers. Even games where you cant trade gold. If you think its so easy, you should start a company and show them how its done. Its much like hackers, new ways to stop them needs to be implemented each week. Why? Because hackers always fine new ways to exploit systems and updates. This war will never end.

if the game doesn't improve the queue (which is probably inflated horrendously by the gold spammers) then I and I'm sure many players won't bother paying any money into the game.   Something needs to be done.  With the queues being as bad as they are, couldn't they inject a little code that monitors chat for certain phrases or how about multiple reports on the same account causes disconnects.  Let the spammers wait in the queues. You know the queues would cycle way faster if the spammers kept getting dropped. There has got to be something that can be done.

I have NCoins waiting to be spent on B&S but I won't be throwing them away on  a game I can't play.

All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.

I get banned in the forums for games I love, so lets see if I do better in the forums for games I hate.

Other than the minor annoyance of chat spamming, gold sellers have never killed a game for me.

NCSOFT encourages GOld spammers....just log into Lineage 2 Today and take a look for yourself

there is 100 gold spammers for every 1 Real player...and what does NCSOFT do.....nothing im sure  =)

NCSOFT only lets you Bann 50 people at a time, and there is 500 gold spammers ......so what does this mean for the Real players ?

Screw you real players NCSOFT doesn't care about you  they would rather have 50000 gold spammers then 50000 real players

I played Lineage 2 since day 1 it opened  at least in Lineage 2 we could go out into the world Killing gold spammers   Forcing them to drop there items we could Steal, Making them lose there Real life jobs

killing gold spammers until they lost there Real jobs was amazing ( As you can see I HATE GOLD SELLERS/ SPAMMERS) ^_____^ I Really LOVE THIS GAME

but NCSOFT is a brutal company who doesn't care about gold spammers, I Love NCSOFT games  but the company is Crazy/ Rediculous in the way they handle things

More like "gold sellers are in every NCsoft game".

everquest 1 Never had Gold spammers selling Gold on websites when I played,

Everquest 2 has zero gold spammers for selling gold on websites

Depending on how you look at it, there is an argument to be made that a game without gold spammers could mean the game is not popular enough for them to waste their time on.  It therefore stands to reason, that perhaps neither should you. :anguished:
